I just bought a fully loaded 2013 Journey with the 3.6 vvt engine with the 6 speed automatic. I drove 400 miles miles at 80 mph and used 12 gallons of fuel for over 30 mpg at 80. The car is pristine like new with normal miles for a 7 year old car. I couldn't be more pleased and with the 19" tires at 36 psi handles like a sports car to me and will do well in winter with awd. Happy camper who is old and poor with only a Bluetooth failure which I will repair myself.
A few things, just for accuracy's sake... It's not classified as a "compact SUV", it's actually a mid-size crossover SUV - just thought I'd point that out for those going to the car lot expecting a small vehicle. The Journey is nearly 200 inches long. Oh, and the version you test drove would actually start out around $21,000. $25k could get you a mid to upper crossroad model (an upgrade from the one you test drove). I noticed you were disappointed in some of the lack of features, particularly with the touch screen. Bluetooth and a larger (much nicer) touch screen is provided in a higher trim package.
I just bought a used 2017 with 18,000 miles and am happy with it. The price was low and I have plenty of room for my pets. I love the storage. I'll add some tech in later
+Barbara Stam Smart! I bet you got a great price since it was "used". We bought our new minivan the same way: 1 year old with less than 10k miles on it. It cut the price down a ton. And I'm glad you like the Journey! I do too, although I think I may have been overly critical of it in my review. Let me know if you still love it after a few months. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!
I will definitely let you know. I only paid 16,000 for mine. I was very lucky. I am sure as mid size SUV's go it may not rank up there with others but after 11 years with a compact Ford car that was very unreliable, I am thrilled with this.
Barbara Stam I just traded my 08 caliber for a used 2017 journey. It has 41,000 miles and I’m Happy with it. It has power something my caliber did not have at all.
The model shown in this video is actually the v6 model. On the Dodge Journey, the standard 4 cylinder engine comes with 1 exhaust port on right side, the only time the dual exhaust ports are available is with the 6 cylinder. That being said, the v6 does make decent power (283hp) and have pretty good pickup along with the 6 speed automatic. This however could never be mistaken for the extremely sluggish and noisy 4 cylinder with the 4 speed automatic. Its a world of difference.
You mentioned it didn't have bluetooth but rather you just plug headphones into your phone.. Why not utilize the AUX port? iPhones come with a 3.5mm to lightning adapter. You just have to buy a male-to-male 3.5mm cord.
I did for a while, but I got sick of getting my cord tangled up. Many of these cars have their Aux connection directly behind the gear shift, which makes it super annoying to use. At least in my opinion. Although, I will admit my aux cable is super long....so it might also be partly my own fault.
I test drove one yesterday and I'd like to add that it's easy to get into for short people (I'm only 5'4). There are some SUVs where I feel like a toddler trying to get up into.
I find myself attracted to this vehicle but I think it's too small for my taste, it should be at least wider. The liftgate glass should open and I think it should have jeeps awd system and I'd make it rear bias like the Durango. But I'm not really a Chrysler guy, I will say though the most reliable car I've owned was a 92 Chrysler 5th Ave New Yorker premium. 250,000 reliable miles on all original powertrain components. Must have been built on quality day lol.
I have Bluetooth in my Dodge Journey SXT it is in second button down on right . The only complaint I have is changing a fuse! You can also flip the 2nd row seats up to make 3rd row seats more useable for a teenagers who wants to ride in 3rd row
My recently purchased 2020 Journey does not have Bluetooth either. however, I can play my phone through an auxiliary cable, on Auxillary setting, so I can play both internet, and satellite radio. Also, when someone calls me, the call goes over the stereo speaker, and they can hear me as well, so it is basically Bluetooth without the specific connection.
I have same model but I think it's an upgraded version cuz I have Bluetooth, and apple car play available. If they made or make a 2023 version of this I'ma cop so fast it's like a trackhawk just less cool and slower
I rented one of these just like yours and the only thing that is positive is it is spacious inside. The negatives: I agree that this car needs bluetooth as every modern car does and it is completely gutless, it feels like it accelerates more than 12 secs to 60mph which is unacceptable for a modern SUV. It is still using an outdated 4 speed automatic which makes the car feels slow. If you really want to buy this car get the V6 version.
I have a 2013 Journey it's big problem is it does have the Bluetooth hands free module but is inop. They cost a ton because of the computer voice activated circuitry. I will attempt to fix this one electrically.
Oh no! Well there are other ways to hook up your phone to the car. My favorite is to use the Aux jack. It's cheap and it's basically just like hooking up headphones to your phone. Check it out! It's not perfect, but at least it's something. Good luck!
Louise M.E I know! I just bought this car too! I don’t care about not having the back up camera but I was for sure it had Bluetooth but when I took it home and going through it noticed it didn’t have that option ugh oh well I am used to using my auxiliary cord.
No bluetooth No back up cam Huge side rearview mirror that kind of blocks visibility when you pull up to an intersection And when making stops feels like car slips out of gear
Why wouldn’t they add Bluetooth. A lot of states want use to use phones hands free and this would be a safety issue. My ex husband had a 2015 Dodge Dart and it didn’t have Bluetooth either
You can get a V6, but it's an additional $1,700 option. At least, according to Dodge's website. Who knows what most deals are keeping in their inventory near you. They might all be V6s.
Yes that's why I made sure I bought a V6. I had read that issue consistently that the V6 was so much better. I sacrificed tech but am happy with the car and glad I got a V6 with privacy glass.
Worst car ever. We had one as a rental for a week and my wife and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. The middle row is so small you can barely get a car seat in. The doors would never close all the way, so we had to always slam the doors shut. Acceleration was not smooth at all. The service 4wd light came on after the second day, which was wonderful. Ergonomics are just weird. For a vehicle that looks large from the outside, there is not much room inside these vehicles.
My wife and I had one for a rental in Hawaii. V6 version. Fantastic vehicle! Quiet, powerful, clever seats make getting in out of 3rd row easy. Lots of storage and more than enough room to transport myself, wife, kid and in-laws to from beaches, airports etc. I seriously considered buying one when I got home. Bought a Hyundai Tuscon instead. Brand new vehicle blew up 2 engines in the three years of ownership. Was faithfully dealer maintained and Hyundai replaced the engines at their expense. Traded it on engine number three. Should have bought the Dodge I guess.
@@percussion44 Had a teacher who once said: "always go with your first impulse.' Two engines in three years---YIKES ! Glad you had a nice Hawaiian vacation...
A pretty inaccurate review with ridiculous complaints. "I Had to reach for my phone", "have to open the gas tank" , need a shelf for my phone". Also, forget the earbuds and just plug the phone into aux . I mean, for shit sake, man!
Hi Chris, I'm sorry you didn't like my review. I try, but I don't always get it right. Sometimes, like with this video, I make the mistake of comparing a vehicle to a previous (and more expensive) rental. So I end up complaining about missing features unfairly. Thankfully people like you have pointed this out to me and I've tried to correct this is my more recent videos (this one is a bit old). I hope you'll give me another chance and watch one of my newer reviews. And don't hold back your criticism! I genuinely want to get better at this and comments like yours do help. ✌️
Sorry you didn't like my video John. Sometimes I don't get very much time with these cars, so it's difficult to figure everything out. Anyway, I'll try to do better next time. ✌️

This is why I like your reviews, all kinds of details that I never get elsewhere.
Thanks Dan!

There is also a storage compartment under the front passenger seat. Just lift up the hood sticking out.
+Ifeanyi Okafor Really? Thanks for pointing that out. I love all these hidden compartments; although, I'm not really sure what I'd keep in them.
@@100RentalCars I keep my pistol in the compartment under the seat

It depends on which trim level u get on the journey I have the bluetooth in my journey

Leona Livingston i test drove one today its fast aint it
While I have a GMC Acadia Denali, this was a fantastic rental car for the price.
Agreed!
Awe that’s bold he thought he had the four popper and it was the v6 😂😂😂😂 I love the pentastar v6
You have to remember some rentals are base models. I remember just the radio, depends on the rental agency.

Its just Bluetooth I am used to having to manuelly lock and unlock vehicles.
I was looking into getting this bit no bluetooth in 2021 is ridiculous
It has an aux connection
Did it have a backup camera?
btw, it is illegal to drive with headphones in your ears because you can't hear sirens and such. supposedly. just fyi
Calvin Corey it's not illegal in all states only four have made it illegal other 11 may gave you a fine but no sir it's not illegal in all states
No bluetooth
No back up cam
Huge side rearview mirror that kind of blocks visibility when you pull up to an intersection
And when making stops feels like car slips out of gear
Yeah, the no bluetooth is a major deal breaker for me. Do you own a Journey? Just curious when you experienced the gear issues. Sound horrible.
I just don’t know about reliability. Dodge Chrysler are known to have problems. Seems like a practical vehicle
My 2016 has Bluetooth. Weird the 2017 doesn’t
Can swap that mini screen for a double din android version
Strange. My Journey SXT has bluetooth.
Huh. Really? Did you upgrade to some sort of technology package?
Mine too...although even though it recognizes my phone I still can't talk...they can hear me and I cannot hear them

Why wouldn’t they add Bluetooth. A lot of states want use to use phones hands free and this would be a safety issue. My ex husband had a 2015 Dodge Dart and it didn’t have Bluetooth either

The aux is in the bottom of the touth screen
