None of these were down the middle the zone strikes. This is not a little league game hit the zone the machine is functioning he is not hitting the zone.
These are minor leaguers also, they need the walks for the stat line more than anyone. Why do people want the ump screwing over minor leaguers out of money? It’s not even like the pitcher has an ERA he cares about.
Most balls were too high. Some bad umpires make the calls based on where the ball is caught by the catcher. So those pitches that goes above the strike zone when passes the plate and then fall to the catcher mitt in a "better height" are called strike by some and fans, coaches, players and most announcers get used to that. ABS doesn't fall in that category. they have the bad habit to only call strike if the ball passes somewhere vertically over the home plate and at or below the midpoint between the batters' shoulders and the top of their uniform pants -- when the batter is in his stance and prepared to swing at a pitched ball -- and at or abover the point just below their kneecap.
I would rather have the challenge system to at least be able to overturn the egregious missed calls at the plate but Managers/Coaches would need to be on their players not to constantly challenge calls that may have just missed. Also they need to fix the issue we saw a few days ago on how much time they have to challenge, need to have at least a few seconds and not the immediate garbage.
Looks like the future of the strike zone in baseball is not going well. Oh, good grief. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Basically, the Manager of Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate for the Chicago White Sox); Jason Jirschele, wasn't in the mood. And, after being warned by the home plate umpire to stop arguing about balls & strikes, he eventually gets tossed at 1:47; and decides to fully get his money’s worth at 1:52. Also, don’t forget about the Mario coin ding at 1:53 too. 😂🤣😂🤣 But, in a 20-4 blowout, is priceless. The manager then went on a complete foul-mouthed rant/tirade on the umpires before heading back to the home team locker room. However, on a serious note, the automated ball/strike zone system (ABS for short); is definitely not ready for use in the MLB system if there’s gonna be problems like this, or we’re gonna see more ejections like this. A manager shouldn't argue a strike call if they are using the automated ball/strike zone! The ump is only calling what the AI system told him to call! I was impressed with umpire Matsuda! He gave a warning..... the complaints continued so he ejected the manager! The right procedure, the right call! Matsuda didn't "loose his cool" as many MLB umps do and he waited until the CC stepped in! 👍👏👏 One thing I noted and have to point out is that #41 in blue pitching is obviously a position player and not a pitcher! He was throwing bloops instead of pitches! The bloops/pitches "probably"🙄 were out of the strike zone! This is difficult because I am a big detractor of MLB umpiring and all their "missed" calls! But I have to agree though, in situations like this where the score is 18-4, late innings, turn off the AI and let the umps call the "closer" pitches strikes to expedite matters! my opinion 🦂🥂

Well the zone is supposed to be more than just down the middle 🤦♂️
These are minor leaguers also, they need the walks for the stat line more than anyone. Why do people want the ump screwing over minor leaguers out of money? It’s not even like the pitcher has an ERA he cares about.
The pitcher couldn't even throw a strike!
4:24 Bronx cheer
I would rather have the challenge system to at least be able to overturn the egregious missed calls at the plate but Managers/Coaches would need to be on their players not to constantly challenge calls that may have just missed. Also they need to fix the issue we saw a few days ago on how much time they have to challenge, need to have at least a few seconds and not the immediate garbage.
Looks like the future of the strike zone in baseball is not going well. Oh, good grief. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Basically, the Manager of Charlotte Knights (AAA affiliate for the Chicago White Sox); Jason Jirschele, wasn't in the mood. And, after being warned by the home plate umpire to stop arguing about balls & strikes, he eventually gets tossed at 1:47; and decides to fully get his money’s worth at 1:52. Also, don’t forget about the Mario coin ding at 1:53 too. 😂🤣😂🤣
But, in a 20-4 blowout, is priceless.
A ball/strike challenge system is definitely needed.
What is the UmpScorecard rating going to be for Rob. O Umpire this game? Better or worse than Diaz's game earlier this week that had everyone in a tizzy?
The resident Robo Ump Nerds must be aroused watching this game
Could Hiro Matsuda just take over and call the game himself?
That is the concern I have, if it plate umpires are not consistently calling balls and strikes, how good are they going to be.
@@sokonek1 great point. I never thought of that.
A good argument for the challenge system
The computer has these as balls. A successful challenge would overturn a strike call.
@@teebob21 I understand that but my point is that this game nobody would bother challenging
@@mtn335 Doubtful. We just watched a manager get ejected over CORRECT calls. You're saying that the other manager would be happier with INTENTIONALLY INCORRECT calls?
@@teebob21 are *you* saying that we’re going to see a lot of challenges in this scenario? That seems doubtful to me.
@@mtn335 If there is a system to game, bench staff will find a way to game it.
Are *you* saying that rather than correct calls, you want to see incorrect calls in this scenario?
Oka,y but come on, this dude could probably throw some strikes if he wasn't just lobbing the ball over.
They should make a rule that if a team bring in a position player to pitch (in a blowout scenario) the automotive strike zone is turned off.
But why? They should turn it off if it isn't working.
@CurtisDensmore1 it works, but it doesn't pick up 40 mph pitches. Did you not watch this video? Come on.
@@samcohoon "it works, but it doesn't pick up 40 mph pitches." Um ok so it doesn't work then
@chrismess135 it's pretty clear that you have no clue how the system works. I'm sure the developers didn't think they were going to have to calibrate for a pitch under 55 mph. (Major league 3 joke in there if you remember that movie) just a waste of processing power and time. It's amazing that some people are allowed to vote.
@@samcohoonwait why would the developers think they wouldn’t have to calibrate for slow pitches it’s not like we’ve never seen position players pitching before. It’s way more likely these are all correctly called balls that just look like strikes and have always been called strikes by umpires during a blowout
I’m sure I’m wrong bc I haven’t read up on it but the ump can’t over ride the computer? I knew in triple A they can if they feel it’s wrong.
are there any metrics available on the ABS, like the umpire score card showing balls and strike and what they should have been? Just curious
I reviewed the computer data, and wouldn't you know it: RoboUmp called yet another perfect game!
I wonder how much they have to spend on it to prevent hacking or manipulation?
If the one team truly thought the computer wouldn’t call strikes, why did they bother to swing at a single pitch in the bottom of the ninth? why not just take walk after walk until you win the game?
Because the pitcher in that half inning was an actual pitcher. They had a lead to preserve so they used someone from the pen.
@@alexandrelambert4923He's saying if the batters actually thought the system was broken, regardless of the quality of the pitcher
@@alexchavez3383 It wasn't broken. It was perfect like always. Just throw strikes, dudes.
It looked like the pitcher wasn't even TRYING to throw strikes, what the hell were those "rainbow pitches" all about?! That was absolutely pathetic
I was just talking about this with some friends over dinner last night. A serous question, if you know as an umpire that the pitch is not what the computer says it is, do you have to call it that way?
Maybe we use full ABS, but we get 3 challenges for which we appeal to the human.
Not necessary. The computers are already perfect.
we should NEVER replace humans with AI!
Huh, it’s almost like computers are a good backup but aren’t ready for prime time.
Hey Justin buddy. Maybe be a better manager and avoid 20-4 blowouts. You know this is not a good look right? Why are you losing so bad? Maybe it’s time to step down to little league. They don’t have ABS down there. And you’ll fit in with the psycho coaches.
Why isn't the Gwinnett manager telling his guys just to take a hack if it's close? Just swing the damn bat.
Probably because minor league players care a little more about stats
How about throwing some damn strikes, first?
Batters need to start swinging and be men. The game is over. Just put the ball in play. Baseball is not meant for all this tech.
Thank you.
One thing I noted and have to point out is that #41 in blue pitching is obviously a position player and not a pitcher!
Terrible plan. It is unacceptable to demand perfection from umpires and replace them with computers, only to decide "welp this game sucks: we can bring in the human to start fucking it up now".
Ride or die: Roboump for the whole game, or humans for the whole game. Pick ONE.
Did it miss? We’re those strikes?
Top notch ejection signal. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here
Lmao dang I feel bad for 41
Harvey Hardass
Robo Umps will fix everything!!!!!!
Apparently, RoboUmp will fix pitchers who suck. Throw strikes or quit whining!
Why are the players upset this is what they want! No sympathy at all
There’s no point in swinging the bat in situations like that.
Yeah there is. The later it gets, the choices to eat afterwards for the players dwindle down dramatically. That was 3+ hour game. By time the players shower and head out, the only choice they are going to have that is open is Jussie Smollett's Subway Shop. Take it from someone who had a kid play professional baseball.
Get ready. If MLB goes to this system this is going to happen often. The computer (when its working correctly) is not going to give those borderline pitches. And then if the computer isnt tracking correctly we get this. "roboumps" are not going to make the players and managers happy. Thats why baseball is the game it is. Its the human factor. Then when you get in a situation like this where a game is out of hand and the defense cant stop the bleeding. A god umpire would give those borderline strikes and the game could move on, and nobody would say a word.
It's a good thing that RoboUmp is perfect. Especially since I've never seen it call a strike that shows up as a ball in the computer data, unlike a human.
"game management" aka "bad" calls going away are NOT a problem.
what is wrong with the world.....
For starters, the youth are soft and full of weakness.
Normally I think teams can do whatever they want and the unwritten rules are kind of lame, but gwenette not swinging is obnoxious lmao.
Why swing? It is the defense's job to throw strikes to force the batter to put the ball in play. If you can't throw strikes, just stand up there and walk me.
I'd rather have bad ABS than anything like Angel Hernandez any day/night.
There are two types of people who will bring up Angel Hernandez whenever possible and invent opportunities to do so: people who have never umpired and couldn't survive 3 innings of T-ball, and fools.
Were those actually missed? I could see many of them being high
That's what I thought🤷🏿♂️
who says the robot ump missed the calls if we had seen a box then mabe we could say for sure but we wasnt shown a box
This is bullshit. This is why ABS will NEVER work. Get rid of it!
So was the ABS busted here? Or just showing absolutely no mercy?
The computer gave zero shits that it was a 15 run blowout. Throw a damn strike.
@@teebob21 Well some of those pitches from our POV looked like strikes. You're right, the ABS did not give one single shit.
I'm not really sure how this is a criticism of ABS. Make the rule so that umpires can pull out the ear piece in blowout situations and call balls and strikes themselves. The point of ABS is to reduce the impact of an umpire's accuracy on game outcomes. No one cares about blown calls that have a

Why is this professional player so inaccurate lol

What was the argument even about?
Balls and strikes.
"Fast, cheap or good, pick two"
"I pick ABS".
This game is exactly why I think baseball should have a mercy rule. Let the losing team just decide they had enough and end it there.
The team could always forfeit.
Why would you say the computer might miss calls? It didn't.
There is no 'game management' in the rulebook, so I am fine without those calls.
“Game Management strike” means umps intentionally being dishonest.
Position player pitching should be forbidden.
Can you imagine assaulting a coworker like that and not hearing from HR about it?
Not a coworker. A coworker would be an assistant coach or a player on the same team. The ump is more like a city inspector
@@alexh8613 They work for the same people in the same place.
@@CurtisDensmore1 No they don't. One works for either Knights Baseball LLC or Chicago White Sox Ltd. While the other works for MiLB.
If you ‘assaulted’ a city inspector, you would also hear from HR. Original point remains very valid. But leagues/fans think this is entertainment.
Oh, goodness. The roboump was getting calls wrong? Color me shocked.
And let's just focus on how Gwinnett is a bunch of jackasses for not swinging the bat when they realized what was going on.
Baseball has officially been ruined by the AI crap.
