    For fantasy colours skins I usually try to think what colour their blood is, like for a blue skinned character I'd make their lips and blush sort of greenish rather than red (A good way to tell if you're not sure is moving the hue until the skin looks like a real human colour and check if the blush looks normal)

  • @tommie3700
    @tommie3700 3 года назад +137

    One thing to make note of when using reference is to be aware of the colour temperature and tint of the reference photo. In the portrait she used for the Black skin tone, I noticed the picture had a lot of blue colour temp with a green tint - but these things can easily be adjusted, so it might be a good idea to change the reference photo to match your art's lighting situation! :)

    Ahhhh! Great tutorial! So, because RUclips tends to attract terrible contents, here's a long ass comment of good stuff: Your video quality is good. You've clearly taken time and care into putting it together and it's truly appreciated. I found your break down of the color bands very helpful--it's been years since I've seriously done anything digital seriously (I was last using CS5 lol), so I'm new to CSP and super rusty, so I find this video and your art to be a great motivator for me to get back into it. Thank you for putting in so much effort for your fans and followers, and I hope this comment makes your day. ... AND DEMAND COMMENTERS BE POLITE.

    thank u so much for clarifying why and which shadows are going to be hard or soft,, i would often watch tutorials for facial shading but never get an explanation for where hard and soft shadows are and what determines them and my paintings would turn out really fuzzy or plainly unpleasant so this is extremely helpful!! :D

    This is great! I hadn’t thought of the gradients in the face. This helps a LOT.
    One thing I got to thinking as you did the blue girl, though, is that the blood is something to consider too. So if the character needs to have blood of a different color, say, blue, or green, then their blush should reflect that
