  • 2015 Ford Mustang GT with Performance Package - 0-60 with Launch Control. The 2015 Mustang features an 5.0L V8 engine, an independent rear suspension, and an optional 6 speed manual transmission. The Mustang features a proper muscle car power plant, with a cross-plane V8 producing 435 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque sent to the rear wheels through a Torsen limited slip differential. It also features launch control which will hold the revs between 3000-4500 RPM (driver adjustable) and line-lock to perform a burnout (recommended for track use only). Highway pull to determine this vehicle's 0-60 mph time. The test is done on a slight downhill grade, though I have performed 0-60 tests of some of the vehicles on flat ground and found very similar results, sometimes even better (due to the lack of a slight turn). Unless otherwise noted, most 0-60 launches are performed with traction control off, and the vehicle in sport mode if equipped.

      Hey question, how is the low down torque on this engine? I drove an LS2 Corvette and was absolutely blown away by how much low down torque there was. Around 3000 rpm it was really pushing me back into my seat.

    I have a 2016 GT Performance Package with about 450whp and a McLeod twin disc clutch. I can "launch" faster by manually doing it. From very low rev, especially with this clutch, I just feather the throttle and then after about 1-2 mph I use no clutch and use 100% throttle. I get full bite and a nice kick in the seat

    If this isn't the performance package with the Pzero summers the Pzero nero all season that come with the regular GT are garbage. I had them on both my 2005 GT and my 2013GT and the first thing I did is change tires, going to bridgestone potenza S-04 you wouldn't believe how much less wheel spin you can get.

    In my personal experience, the tire size is set incorrectly from the factory with the performance pack cars like the one tested here. Also, while most modern street tires don't require a burnout, if this has the stock P-Zeros on it -- pretty sure it does -- they need to be warmed up. I won't drive on them below 50 degrees -- below 45 they are downright dangerous. All that said, these cars are trickier that most to launch.

    I have mine set up for 3000 rpm. It initially launches pretty good but then bogs really bad. I have the Roush Phase II Supercharger on mine. For me, unless there's a better way to use, the LC is useless.

    One thing he could do to help the 0-60 times, is to stop removing his hand from the shifter, every time he shifts, and do some serious speed shifting. He's losing TONS of time by doing so. Doesn't seem like he's very competent or confident in his abilities to drive the damn thing like he stole it. I've been driving stick shift automobiles for more than 32 years now, and have a Mustang of my own, so I have no problem with it, at all. And, the best thing about sticks these days, is that it is one of the better theft deterrents that you can buy. Most of today's young, dumb, thugs could not possibly drive one. Something to think about....

    The check engine light is on, that is why you never push a Ford.
    What I like about German cars is when you floor them the engine light does not come on. I have had the same problem with my 2 previous Fords. I had a 2010 Ford F-150 5.4L V8 you floor it the light comes on, you have it checked, there is no problem so it is reset, and it does not come on until you floor it again, but no codes weird! Same thing with my 2013 Ford Mustang V6 you floor it the engine light comes on again, no codes. That is why I now own German cars.

    You don't launch a car starting in second gear! That is just brutal wear and can do major damage not only to the transmission but the clutch too. Why?! Dislike.

    • @EngineeringExplainedExtra
      @EngineeringExplainedExtra  9 лет назад +19

      +Cerberus Mj Care to explain your logic? Sure, more clutch wear is possible, but a gear ratio is a gear ratio. You could have a second gear in one car more aggressive than a first gear in another, that doesn't make it bad to use. Plenty of cars will start in second gear in "snow" mode.

    • @sinceremilkoftheword9754
      @sinceremilkoftheword9754 8 лет назад +1

      +Engineering Explained Extra Aren't you supposed to gradually change gears starting from first? That's the way every car shifts gears. It's the right way to do it.

    • @THE-MAD-TECHIE
      @THE-MAD-TECHIE 8 лет назад +3

      +Cerberus Mj Not true in all cases, e.g. for the Hellcat if your going to do a clutch dump(or launch control) you have to do it in second or the thing will never grab too much power too much torque. The manufacture actually suggests it. The gear ratio of this car in 2nd is not much off the 1st gear of some mild passenger cars, the only time you need to worry about starting in second is that in many turbo charged cars because the lower torque, the weight of the vehicle will immediately pull down the rpm and that combined with the amount of throttle the driver is giving will confuse the computer, causing the turbo to spool without enough air and then it will have a massive backfire. The other issue is because higher gears have less torque and your trying to get 3500lbs moving from a dead stop, so if you do not have enough it will stall and that can be bad on the transmission, however, 2nd is typically very safe as the gearing is not too far from 1st and it still has significant torque. 2nd Gear in the 2015 Mustang is a 2.43 gear and with a 3.73 in the performance pack that leaves a drive ratio of 9.06 (he compensates with more RPM) , that is lower than 1st gear of an Automatic transmission in 84-93 mustangs or early 80s corvettes, and fairly close to what some trucks without towing packages have. I would not try it in 3rd in this car though the gear drops for 2.43 - 1.686 that's too high. Another thing is I think the decline(down hill) is hurting him in addition to the cold, the car already has a front weight bias issue the hill will make that even a little worse. Also without the performance pack it would probably not yield good times , its because of that 3.73 rear end it works well.

  • @ivandoe33
    @ivandoe33 8 лет назад

    Wow, on EuroNCAP it got only 2 stars for safety, missing some safety equipment that comes as standard in USA. But even if we ignore the missing safety equipment, car looked really bad after hitting the wall. So, car to aviod. I'd take challenger or older mustangs like 60s or 70s.
