- In today's travel vlog, I visit Wrocław, Poland with my parents - just three Americans giving their first impressions of Poland! Wrocław is an awesome city on the Oder River in western Poland. We also visited Poznań while we were in Poland, a very pretty city on the Warta River also in west Poland. Wroclaw and Poznan are only about a two hour drive away from each other, so I'd highly recommend visiting both if you're in the area. If you're interested where we ate in Wroclaw, jump to 2:24 - if you're wondering "is Polish food good" or "what's food like in Wroclaw?" then this video will answer that too.

I think that American stereotypes about Poland are outdated about 25 years. They have to be refreshed ;) Have fun!
Yes our initial thoughts going in were definitely outdated, it was wonderful to see the true Poland during our visit
Only 25? Mid 90s were already not so bad. The stereotypes are closer to 30-35 year old ;)
American sterotypes about Poland were always not truth.. even in comunist times Poland not only produced, but also designed and developed own jets, helicopters ( 3 models: Mi-2 ( only produced in Poland , W-3 Sokol, SW-4 Puszczyk designed, produced and developed in Poland) many types of aircrafts, ships, warships, armored vehicles, locomotives, trams, buses trucks, personel computers ( one of the very first modern personel computer was designed in Poland), even things like gatling guns. For your information. Poles invented paper clips, oil rafinery, rubber car wipers, rotary tank periscope, mine detector, walkie talkie, technology of production big structures made from graphen. Poles also broke Enigma code. Polish guy, born and educated in Poland, Mieczysław Bekker, designed LRV Lunar Roving vehicle ... lunar jeep for Apollo missions and Piasecki designed the best american transport helicopter CH-47 Chinook... still produced after 65 years. I bet you didn’t know that.

indeed, the invention of paper clips has a decisive significance in the world technical revolution, in addition, you forgot to mention that the Poles also discovered fire, invented the wheel, and developed an innovative method of production of wooden pallets
Those little gnomes placed around town are pretty cool!
Aren't they so cool and cute?! They're all over the place, leftover from an underground protest movement when Poland was under communist rule
@@LeighAnneMarie That was the anti-communist youth movement. They were called the Orange Alternative. ruclips.net/video/qZLtrytBi1s/видео.html
This city. And generaly Poland has a great story, gnomes as well ;) as you can see in the comment above :D
Those are actually dwarfs!
Do not confuse our wrocławian dwarfs with filthy gnomes (we, Wrocławians, are highly xenophobic) :'(!
It is great to see two generations of Polish-Americans travelling together across Poland and having so positive experiences. I would especially agree that food in Poland is amazing: wholesome, tasty , well-presented and....affordable, something that I didn't experience in the West ( France, UK, Holland, Scandinavia), maybe Italy had food that tasted well. Anyways, thanks you for sharing this video with us and greetings from the West Coast.
Thanks so much for your kind, thoughtful comment, Ragnar! The food was amazing, I wish I could have some again right now...
More like110 years
Kocham Polske 🇵🇱❤️
Me too :)
Just came across this and love it! Your dad looks Polish just like my Dad who was half Polish too. I took him and my mom to Poland and everyone came up to him and started speaking Polish like he was a local!
Haha that's amazing! Where did you go on your Poland trip?
Warsaw- Czestochowa- Krakow- Zakopane- Knysna- Bieszczady Nat. Park- Zamosc- Lublin- back to Warsaw, basically the SE of Poland. We were impressed with our whole trip there but I loved the rural areas in the mountains the best! My dad died a few years after the trip so I was so happy he got to see Poland since he was so proud to be Polish and taught me its history when I was a kid. He was impressed by the country too. BTW, I really like the use of Moon River on your clip. It wasn't composed with Poland in mind but it should have been!
He looks like Polish Jews
I love how you all shared your thoughts! And the food looked amazing!!
Thanks Mollie, it was so fun to have my parents taking a more active role in one of my videos!
Big like..the food looks delicious!
Thank you, it really was yummy!

As a Polish-American , I really enjoyed your video, especially since you have SUCH a nice family vibe going on. GOOD stuff!!🎵
Thanks so much Charlie, really appreciate your kind words! :)

No.problem- I enjoyed the video and will be subbing.
Also, in terms of being 25% Polish, the math makes total sense BUT I THINK you could actually be a higher, or lower, percentage.
Again, I could be mistaken Here, BUT I think- per some DNA testing vids I've seen- that you could be,in theory, 100% Polish genetically while a sibling could only be,say, 20% Polish(unless they're an identical twin).
As I said, I don't know if this is true or not, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Perhaps some other subscribers have heard this theory.😀
You must see Warsaw, Kraków and Gdańsk too.
I'd LOVE to come back and visit Warsaw, Kraków and Gdañsk someday soon! So much more exploration of Poland needs to happen in the future
@@LeighAnneMarie
Wieliczka - salt mine is a must see! Also because of healthy reasons :) But it's very unique with 700 years (oldest of its type in Europe) of history, also UNESCO inscribed. It is located 10 km from Kraków. Check: www.wieliczka-saltmine.com/. Glad you enjoyed the first trip and hope you will come back! :D
Don't forget Zakopane!
Kartuzy,Kościerzyna, Bytów !!!
@Konserwant Konserwant oczywiście masz racje dziurawe chodniki, zrujnowane przedproża kamieniczek, strasząca ruina niedoszłej Akademii Muzycznej w samym centrum miasta. Elbląg odbudował kompletnie i szybko całą swoją starówkę- różnica jest kolosalna...
Hipster Brooklyn cafe... Where do you think those culinary traditions came from in the first place? If you go to any Jewish deli, it's mostly Polish food, at least in origin.
Ahh interesting!
Yes, for eg. famous bagels :) They originate from Jews who moved out from Kraków :)
Wow a beautiful place, I like this video. Your parents are so cool :).Is it expensive?
Thanks so much, I think they're cool too :) It was so affordable compared to other parts of Europe I've visited!! Nice Airbnbs for very reasonable prices and delicious food for cheap
Poland is cheap for Americans.

I love it too :)
So nice the photography, editing and music you chose. You should work for the Wroclaw Tourist Board! I didn’t know if I was in Paris or Poland.
Such nice work. Your love of Poland really came through!
Thank you so much, Paul!! This is such a nice, wonderful comment :)
I'm going to wroclaw in June. I only drive through 20 years ago. In winter. Can't wait to take my family there
I hope you and your family have an amazing time there, Christopher!
Really very awesome video. I also like to travel around. I think travel means peace, relax. The whole week started working on the weekend,
and our hearts started to look good. There is no work, much joy in thinking. Some scientists have studied in the study,
going to visit has a positive effect on our body and improves the brain. Our mind is so calm as we get closer to the beauty.
As much as you go to a quiet place, the brain gets rest from anxiety. Whatever the depths of the forest, as much as the adverse weather of the brain,
the brain is forgotten as much as the weaknesses. In all of these things, our brain never gets rest. Need for travel
That food looks incredible, I'd definitely like some of those dumplings and the chocolate fondue
Sofia W the food in Wroclaw was INCREDIBLY good!! The pumpkin dumplings that we had at Jadka were actually the best we tried 2:43

Great video! :D Greetings to Wrocław! From Wrocław ;)
Thank you!! Greetings to Wrocław from the USA! :)
@@LeighAnneMarie Beautiful country indeed :)) I'll travel there I hope ;) Anyway :D come back sometimes :3
Your parents are so cute! Do you know if there's a story behind those little statues? There were a couple in this video. :D
Thanks Jay! :) Yes, there are cute little gnomes all over the city of Wroclaw! According to what I've found online, "gnomes have long held a place in Polish folklore, and their current iconic incarnation as symbols of Wrocław actually has a direct correlation to the political climate of the 1980s. Under communism, gnomes became the absurdist calling card of the 'Orange Alternative' movement - an underground protest movement that used absurdity and nonsense to stage peaceful, yet subversive protests."
There are about 400 gnomes in whole Wroclav.

Was that actually a marshmallow in that drink that I assume was hot chocolate, or was it something else? I couldn't understand what she said
Haha yes it was a marshmallow but it didn't belong to my Mom originally! If you look at 4:41, you'll see the marshmallows on my fondue plate. Then when I went to video Mom's hot chocolate, I was surprised that they gave her a marshmallow with it and then learned that she'd swiped one from my plate when I wasn't paying attention lol

Wroclaw is the best! A very good choice! This is my city. Don't be surprised that people in Wroclaw speak English. We learn at least two foreign languages in school. Besides, we have tons of tourist from all over the Europe coming to visit Poland, because for tourists prices are very affordable and it is pretty safe in Poland. No guns or suicide bombers...
You live in a wonderful place! That's amazing that so many people are trilingual. What language did you choose as your second foreign language? Yes it was really great to always feel very safe there during the day and night
@Leigh-Anne Marie - Actually I didn't have a choice. It is not like in western countries where you can choose which classes you want to take and which subjects you want to study. I majored in Humanities in high school or Liberal Arts as you prefer, and I had to study Russian, German and Latin. It was a program you had to follow if you took this major (Russian was mandatory these days...) It was some time ago. Now kids don't have to study Russian at school. English I learned myself. Learning English from a self-study book was my hobby. Besides, I took Russian as one of my graduation subjects, but now I don't speak Russian anymore, since I did not have a chance to speak Russian since I graduated from high school, although I can still read and understand some Russian. German, I can still read and understand less than Russian. Latin, no more, too bad...:( but if I ever came in contact with these languages I would catch up very fast.
Oh very interesting, thanks for explaining! :)
I love this video! Just subbed! Hope we can support each other :)
Thanks so much, Madz and Laur!
Your parents dancing in the night to the live music was the cutest thing ever!! Im glad you guys enjoyed Poland, I’m British Polish and love Polska

Why is everyone always so surprised that Poland is not poor? Lol. Keep your stereotypes up to date, people! XD
My bad!!
@@LeighAnneMarie Hey, no worries 😉 I didn't mean you personally, it's just that I've noticed that many people have (or had, until fairly recently) this idea of Poland as some backwater sh*t hole (granted, there are still many places like that around, especially in rural areas - which, I'm not gonna lie, are not pretty😆). It's not exactly a rich country, especially by Western standards, but it's nowhere near as bad as some of the stereotypes would have it... I've heard people claim we have no electricity and polar bears roaming the streets. Wtf. Like, how....?! 🤦♀️

You should understand that we are the old culture in the middle of Europe. We have had a very difficult modern history and we lost a lot of patriotic and highly educated people during the IIWW and after it but we still are the great nation. Unfortunately the 447 JUST ACT signed by president Trump /our friend?/ can stop our development and can demolish our country and our culture. If you feel your Polish blood in you vessels you need to join Americans with Polish roots who fight against this act and proliferate a knowledge about it including how it is lawless and dangerous for Poland.
let me guess..as a proud americans...you didn't bother to learn at least one polish word...

Wrocław was build by Germans It is polish since the end of the WWII when Stalin gave it to poland
The city was founded by Slavs. Until the 14th century, it was ruled by the Piasts. That is the Polish royal dynasty. Then for two centuries Wrocław was Czech. Then the Habsburgs ruled it. It was not until the end of the 18th century that it became part of Prussia. During the II W.W. Wrocław was destroyed in 86%. Poles have rebuilt it.
and destroyed by Germans and rebuilt by Poland. spent longer time under the polish rule.
It's a Piast Polish city (Piast was the first Polish royal dynasty who founded the city). In the 15th century the city was under Czech rule. The next two centuries are the rule of the Habsburgs. Prussians (Germany) have ruled since the end of the 18th century. After 2WW Wrocław returns to Poland as a compensation for the lost eastern Polish lands in the east (Lviv, Grodno, and Vilnius etc.). During the war the city was destroyed in about 75%.
this can not be true, because Poland as a state has existed since about the eighth century in this area (there was a tax system here) and the German army with the holy cross at the head came here to destroy and kill only in the 10th century. The city of Wrocław was built by the Slavs, who spoke an intermediate language between Polish and Czech, unfortunately nonexistent today. Germans destroyed them more often trying to get them but they do not want to remember about it. In May 1945 the city was surrounded by Soviet armies for months and destroyed, even though Hitler was already dead. The one who condemned the city to destruction making it a fortress was a German. His name was Karl Hanke.
+sebpsx -I recommend going back to school and study hard. You do not know the basic historical truths. Wrocław has always been a Polish Royal City, in the Germany much shorter - as stolen as a result of wars with Austria in the 18th century
