Definitely! I actually own this one thanks to James’s review of it. I have used to quite often and love it! Most recently it came in handy while I was painting cabinets on my back porch.
I have to agree with you. After experiencing the pain of a chair being intentionally pulled out from under me just before sitting down, and over a concrete floor no less, I don't trust anyone.
I don't think a lean-to seat would benefit me, as I have proven to be a fall risk in the last few years. But the disc shaped chair, or others like it, would benefit me better, so I could actually rest. Thanks, James, for the review!!! 😊
We bought the telescoping one you compared it to a while ago. My son vends at several conventions during the summer and not every convention provides chairs, so it's handy when he needs extra seating or a small table at his booth and folds down compact enough to not take up a lot of space in his gear.
Yeah I have one of those and it’s also not for bony backsides, as James put it, because it’s not comfortable to sit on. And mine even came with a thin cushion.
Did you buy the patented original (Have A Seat® - My Stool) or the chinese copy? I first got a fake one (i didn’t know that thing was a German invention), and after a summer’s use it was quite shaky. Got the original later, and it’s SO much sturdier. It’s around 10 bucks more, but it comes with a pillow (that’s what the holes are for)
I have the disc one you showed and it is perfect for waiting in lines. I store it in a backpack with my water and snacks. I find it a touch heavy for long hikes but decent for short hikes, shopping for clothes with a friend (most places removed their waiting chairs during the pandemic and have no intention of putting them back), concerts and parades. That leaning stick is not a chair. You should return it with a paper that says “This is NOT a chair”😂
@@erebostd Hi. The Amazon choice upgraded version. Same price as knock off but was $10 cheaper 5 years ago. Still holds up well. I should buy some foam from the dollar store and cut it to size for the top for extra comfort but I always forget.
@@serendipity6277 good to hear your seat holds up 🙂👍 i personally bought the original after learning that it was patented, but my first seat (got it from Amazon, too) did break. Luckily nobody was hurt. It baffles me that Amazon is selling knockoffs, even if the German company isn’t enforcing their patent, they try to point out the pros of their products… but you can’t buy the original if you don’t know it exists, can you? And as you said, amazon is listening a fake as top product. Strange, apple would handle that quite differently 😁
I have mobility issues and I've been looking for a portable chair. I had seen this one online, but I ended up going for a tripod style one. Nice to see this review, overall I'm glad I didn't go for it now.
I was going to say, at SDCC people wait in lines to wait in lines to have a chance at getting into Hall H where you also have to wait in line. The lines aren't normally against a wall, so you're stuck standing, squatting, or sitting on the concrete floor for sometimes hours.
Great review as always! I guess it does what you can expect from it to do but long queues without anything else to lean against is really the only time this could come in handy.
The green stool I brought for my husband after your review. I am wheelchair dependent and when out gives if no seating around out it comes and he has a seat has stood up to multiple uses
The green is a chinese knockoff, the original is only available with a blue line (Have A Seat® - My Stool). It’s patented, and the original is way sturdier than the copies…
This leaning style is actually very interesting to me. I developed some neurological issues on the left side of my body. At times the pain is so bad I can't sit, lie down or stand without pain. This means there is almost no way to get pressure off my body. Perhaps leaning would help!
At Disney World it may not be allowed in when you screen through security! I went once with a pair of crutch/canes that had a side handle with a wrist brace (MS people often use them in pairs). Security screeners wouldn’t allow them. They explained that they only allow them for disabled persons with proof of disability. (I had dual knee replacements and balance issue due to other surgeries, otherwise strong and healthy, but legally disabled) I can see them being difficult about this device!
As someone with mobility issues, the idea of a lean-on stool that I don't have to get up and down from, piques my interest for sure - but no, not one with only a single leg! The inherent instability is such that all I can see is it slipping, and me falling, in a way that just *screams* serious injury, too - it's the stuff of nightmares, and I'm not even joking! ::shudders:: So that'll be one giant NOPE and a "not even if you paid me, thanks!" for this so-called chair, but your diligence in testing such items so that we don't need to, is really more appreciated than you could know - so thanks again so much my friend, for all the time and hard work you put into your videos! :)
This would actually be ideal for security guards that have to be standing up all day. With this they can take a little rest and still able to act fast.
In my mind I'm engineering my own folding stool right now lol. I'd use woven nylon and aluminum tubing just like the old retro folding chairs but much more folded up and compact. Basically a stool seat folded in half with extending hinged legs folded inside.
If I got you, some of them already exist, I got one instead of the trash can stool because I didn't like the look of the stool. Tho the issue is that you sit closer to the ground to keep it portable enough so it isn't great for ppl with knee pain.
When I was at a McDonald's in Japan they had normal tables and chairs but by the window was a counter with T shaped, uh... metal poles, to sit on just like this, except attached to the floor. My theory was that they didn't want you getting too comfortable so you'd eat, leave, and make room for someone else.
Thank you for this video! I wasn’t aware of the sitpack but I have been looking at the folding stool the last couple days and think that’s what I should go with!
Been using this since over a year now. Perfect for those buses, Trains, Busy ticket lines etc. It's not exactly comfortable, but it does take weight off your legs. Its just there to lean on, like you lean on walls, lean on railings etc.
Waaaayyy too complicated and rather unsecure for older folks. Even three legged golf chairs can be unstable; one legged ? Perfect as a camera monopod, but a chair, well....
Then why not just lean on a wall or a rail, rather than pay fifty bucks, and have to lug it around, and put it together? Seems just impractical and expensive.
I prefer the Fold and Go Sidekick Seat. It’s made by Fold and Go Wheelchairs. It’s great because it has a carabiner and can clip on belt loop or hand off back pack. It’s made for caretakers to be able to sit with the person in a wheelchair, but can be purchased by anyone on their website. We take ours when we go out and my wife has a place to sit whenever needed. I’m always sitting in my Fold and Go Wheelchair.
Yup... The floor, rail, ledge, anything else you can sit on... is fine! This is one of the funniest things you have reviewed!!!! And.... you keep going with the review!?!?! You are great! (And funny as heck!!!)
This thing saved me when I had major back pain but loved going to concerts! It took just enough pressure off my back that I didn't have to miss out on anything I loved for fear of being in pain.
I usually agree with you and this is no exception--while you were opening up and discussing the "chair" I was thinking, "that telescoping stool thing would be a lot better," and out you came with it!🤣🤣🤣 I used to go to shows at SRO venues (like House of Blues) and to get in/try to be at the front you'd need to be there 4+hours early--and you'd be in one spot the whole time! For that I'd definitely want the stool! I can see where the little NOT "chair" might seem like a good option at a Disney-type line, but I'm older and SUPER clumsy... I'd probably die!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have a British walking stick with a folding seat on it. Since I always use a walking stick or cane when hiking it's perfect for a leaning style seat.
If I saw someone using that I would have that intrusive thought of just kicking it lol, I'd never do it... but I'm sure the thought would be somewhere back there lmao
First, I doubt most festivals, stadiums, or amphitheaters would allow this inside since it could become a weapon. Second, (not attacking you personally) but you look silly and uncomfortable leaning on it. And third, if you use this in a crowded area, you are vulnerable to someone either accidentally or intentionally kicking it out from under you.
I’ve had a collapsible stool as shown for a few years now. It’s great as a table on the beach, a stool in the field or knowingly long lines, at concerts, just in general. I love mine!!
I’ve got a collapsible stool and I can fully sit on it and it’s very ideal for everything this “chair” claims it covers, the only thing I like about this chair it is portable but I do wish it actually turned into a full chair.
I love your channel very much. I am an autistic woman who loves watching reviews and diy videos. I just love watching people do things and learning how stuff works. There are very cheap useless products that are a waste of time and life. Fast production and fashion is hurting the planet because it's being dumped on the ground and ends up in the ocean. I used to free dive and it's polluted the deeper and farther out you travel into the ocean it gets worse. Most people don't get to see it because they don't have the opportunity to travel out there. I watched the coral reefs slowly die and become smaller. I haven't been out there in awhile but I know for a fact it's gotten worse. I cried for the loss because I made friends with the animals and the ocean. It was my home away from home. I am very comfortable under the water the deeper I dive the less stress and anxiety I feel. The ocean gets heavy when you dive down to 25 meters and after that it gets heavier as well. I used to go to 32 meters on one breath of air for 25 minutes. It took lots of practice to learn how to hold my breath and handle the pressure. I can see under the salty water too my eyes are capable of adjusting to it. I found out some of my family members have the same abilities. I believe it's genetic and if we don't practice the ability it can go away. Most of the time it's the younger people who have the ability and as they get older it slowly goes away. I am different so I haven't lost any of my abilities. I believe my autism is partly responsible. 😊
I've had one for years which I've used at music festivals where I'm standing or walking for most of the day. Although the leaning seat is a compromise, it does allow you to still enjoy enjoying music acts as you can still see what's going on. Mine has never collapsed on me as I always made sure it was securely locked in place but I have had it kicked over many a time by drunk people walking past it in very crowded areas which is very annoying.
I feel like it's only really of any use if you're in a long line or something, since it's quick to set up and easy to move it around at a moment's notice and it doesn't take up much space at all. But aside from that very specific use case, you're better off just getting any number of other portable chair things.
Thank you for a GREAT critique! It helped me very much to make a decision not to get it! I have scoliosis/sciatica and I know, now, that this would definitely not be a solution to my problem/needs. You did a great job with pros/cons!!! I need much more support. I'll look into your other product but not sure that's high enough. Thanks again!!!
I've got one of these with the add-on cover / sling. I've brought it to Disney parks (both at Disneyland and Disney World) to take a bit of pressure off waiting in lines or waiting for a show at the end of the day where there's no other seating handy. Your review is pretty much my experience. It's certainly not as comfortable as a full-on seat. However, it's very tight and compact. And it's FAR better than nothing. Or sitting on concrete. So I continue to bring it ready to break out when those rare situations arise.
Those collapsing stools seem like a much better option. They may not be as tall, but that are just as compact, way easier to adjust, way more sturdy, comes with straps and handles. This videos just shows that even more.
Yapp, they’re better. Sadly the market is full of Chinese knockoffs, the original (Have A Seat® - My Stool) is patented and way sturdier, but most people doesn’t know. Every time i see those videos i try to point it out. The original isn’t even much pricier (around 10 bucks) and comes with a pillow..
In a large group I’d be concerned someone wouldn’t trip or kick the stick and down you’d go. It certainly would be dangerous in the elderly or handicapped or ever anyone falling on their bum.
A better version of this was around in the 1960s. They had a leather sling to sit on. My Grandmother used one at Horse events we went to. Worked really well.
@@juub yep though I think they go back a lot farther than the 60’s possibly 1890”’s by toff’s on outings to shoot game birds all morning when theirs legs get tiered they parked their bums on one then continued shooting
I was just trying to think if I ever could have used this. The answer was no in 65 yrs.. I always would find a rock or log to sit on or go somewhere with a chair.
Thanks for reviewing! It looks very uncomfortable, unstable, and I have the opposite of a bony backside! If I tried one it would be a spectacle to behold haha!!!!
If you mean that oversized-foot shaped thing that has suction cups on the bottom, and has brushes like a broom, and you stick your foot in and out and it scrubs it all around--I've used it and I liked it. You have to use it in a shower stall that has a flat, smooth floor, though. It doesn't work well in a bathtub/shower combo--although you can manage. One place that I was living in had a nice big shower stall, but the floor was textured, so it didn't stick and was useless. You can determine how soft or vigorous the scrubbing is by speed and pressure. It felt good and invigorating; could easily clean hard-to-reach spots. But I agree -- I'd like to see a review of that, too.
The idea is that it reserves your energy and you don't over exert yourself. I can see myself using this to do stuff around a vehicle but if I really want to properly sit then I can sit in the vehicle.
I saw this on Amazon and as someone with chronic fatigue syndrome I was curious. Then I realized it worked exactly like when I lean/sit on the handle of my cane. Only it's way less durable, stable, and useful, and way more expensive. My cane looks like it'd be more comfortable too, because the handle is covered in foam so it's all cushioned. I decided to stick with my cane.
Hi James, I think that had they called this the lean pack it would have made more sense. Given the cost and what you get I would give this one a miss. I am sure there is better out there. Still I very much enjoyed this review. Very well done.
I bought a cheap backpack with a built in mini folding stool for refereeing soccer. Best purchase I have made in a long time. The mini stool was surprisingly comfortable as it was foam padded and had a thick textile cover that has survived more than 5 years of heavy abuse with rocks, gravel, rain, etc. I would not take it long distance though, as the metal frame sits on your back with minimal padding, so walking more than a mile or two round trip would get uncomfortable real fast. But it's great for just going a short distance to a soccer field and carrying everything in a single small backpack. Your disc stool seems much better for backpacking or hiking.
I remember back in the late 70s my dad bought a similar one. When n not in use it could be used as a walking cane. When you flip up the sitting part it's wider and had a square area making it comfortable if you did have a boney butt. When you are done you flip the seat back down till the two clasps hold it in place. But you can't shrink the leg down like this one.
If someone tried to extend this thing in front of me in a long line at an amusement park I’d be pretty annoyed. It looks cumbersome to set up and there are plenty of places to sit/lean without being in anyone’s way.
Someone I knew had walking stick with a spreading handle to sit on. This was pre internet days. I probably haven't seen a similar product like that. I like the stool better than the stick. But the stick can be improved with a better flat seat. I think they are giving more importance to the design than the function.
5:06 Uhh… James, buddy….. did you Uhh…. Just put your fingerprints on a shotgun shell that you have absolutely no idea what it was used for?…. 😂😂😂😂 bro what if someone murdered someone with that and you just put your prints on it?!?!?! That is wild! 🤦🏽♂️
The only potential benefit I can discern with that (I would refer to it as a perching stool) is that it could potentially be utilized as a support or crutch in the unfortunate event of an accident in a rocky desert environment where there is a scarcity of wood to construct a suitable support. However, I must concur that the other collapsible stool is superior.
When I was in a walking group, I had a folding foam pad. Could have been a little thicker, but great for sitting on rocks or just wet grass and making it a bit nicer.
Little backpacking chairs are only slightly larger and actually something you can sit on

Thank you, this is one of the funniest thing I've seen all weekend.
I think I'd prefer a walking stick with fold out seat, it'd be easier to open. The table stool is cool.
Nice review. I'm definitely gonna buy that disc stool thanks to you.
Looks like the perfect gift for someone you don't like
Could have just built it like a tripod and had a folding seat that came out would have work just as fine
A better version of this was around in the 1960s.
They had a leather sling to sit on.
My Grandmother used one at Horse events we went to.
Worked really well.
Shooting stick. That’s what they were called in the UK.
Of course I'm short but I think I would use it as a walking stick when hiking.
Great review as always 😊. Yep a leaning stool. I'd be leary about using it especially being elderly 😮. I'd use the stool if need be 😊.
Bailey is the real star of your channel. I'm always waiting to see her. 😁
I saw this foot scrubbing gadget on Amazon. Was kinda wondering if it's any good, and would love if you reviewed it 🙂
If you mean that oversized-foot shaped thing that has suction cups on the bottom, and has brushes like a broom, and you stick your foot in and out and it scrubs it all around--I've used it and I liked it.
@@Rubiastraify Yeah, that's the one. It seems useful, but I wouldn't want to get something that I end up not using
Thanks for the review...love the Star Trek reference. We missed Bailey on the hike though!
The idea is that it reserves your energy and you don't over exert yourself. I can see myself using this to do stuff around a vehicle but if I really want to properly sit then I can sit in the vehicle.
I subscribed immediately after noticing that Mandelbrot Set poster! Man of taste!
My back hurts just watching this.
Hi James,
I think that had they called this the lean pack it would have made more sense.
As someone why has a horrible back that can’t stand for very long, this would be a godsend
This is a very fair review. You went all out to try to make this thing work.
I remember back in the late 70s my dad bought a similar one. When n not in use it could be used as a walking cane. When you flip up the sitting part it's wider and had a square area making it comfortable if you did have a boney butt. When you are done you flip the seat back down till the two clasps hold it in place. But you can't shrink the leg down like this one.
my friend has been using one of these for years at conventions and loves it !
Do you ever send stuff back? This would be a good candidate.
I stan the random Star Trek reference at 5:06
I'm sure I saw that on Big Bang Theory. Raj had one, and the other guys made fun of him.
As for that other stool, I have that and it's great!
If someone tried to extend this thing in front of me in a long line at an amusement park I’d be pretty annoyed. It looks cumbersome to set up and there are plenty of places to sit/lean without being in anyone’s way.
Honestly this reminded me how good that stool is haha
Someone I knew had walking stick with a spreading handle to sit on. This was pre internet days. I probably haven't seen a similar product like that.
I like the stool better than the stick. But the stick can be improved with a better flat seat. I think they are giving more importance to the design than the function.
I love how this review gave the word 'sit'uation another meaning.
That's more of a Self defense tool than chair 😂
Amazing how you can make a review of a cheap item entertaining!
I can picture sitting (leaning) on that in an amusement park line and some kid or rude person, kicking it out from under me 😂
The Sitpack chair looks so uncomfortable. I actually have the other chair that you showed and I love it.😊 Great video demonstration.
"It's better than standing up..." Is it though??? 🤣🤣🤣
Have you ever reviewed or tested bottle or jar openers for older people who can't grip them very well? Electric or manual?
Any link to the disk type telescopic seat. Am a senior with balance issues, so need something stable.
Thank you.

They need to turn the part you sit on either into a massager/vibrator or a blue tooth speaker.
Pierce Hawthorne: "Please call all of the ambulances."
Sir, you did not need to try that "out in the wild" to tell its a piece of junk but I applaud your dedication.
When I was in a walking group, I had a folding foam pad. Could have been a little thicker, but great for sitting on rocks or just wet grass and making it a bit nicer.
