It's easier with Yoshi as 6 of his 7 rabbits are out front. You see 3 of them right as you go out front. The other front rabbits for Yoshi are where you caught the first rabbit at, the drained moat, and the right side of the front yard.

How peculiar... I don't remember this secret silver bunny star at ALL, yet I checked my save file just now and I have all 150 stars. Which means that I must have done this at some point, but... Weird. Heck I even remember questioning myself about what was the deal with that useless white door at the time AFTER beating the game 100%. Checking for clues online and reading stupid theories about Waluigi.
Basically at some point these white rabbits will appear. I believe its once you can enter the final part of the castle excluding that staircase where you need enough stars for it to not be affected by that weird thing preventing you from getting to the final area and unlock every character that the white rabbits start showing up. That or you need to have found all the rabbits excluding that one on the roof to get them to spawn. Anyways as you can tell to get the key to unlock that white door you need to find all 8 of them where each of the playable characters need to find 2 of them each. I believe I got that key as Luigi.
I just finished the game and saved Peach, and even after the end credits, I went back in JUST to go to that door and see if Peach was now a playable character 😭💀 Kinda messed up that I saved Peach and that door is still locked tho lmao

Yoshi gets it the easiest as all but 1 of the rabbits for him to catch are out front(the 7th rabbit for Yoshi is in the basement where the lava and desert courses can be entered.) So if you're hunting for the sparkling rabbits, the best way to do it is to first catch Yoshi's rabbits out front then keep going back in and out until 1 of them is sparkling. Sparkling rabbits rarely replace ones you already caught before, so with 6 of Yoshi's rabbits being out front, you have 6 times the chance for a sparkling rabbit. If you're looking for Luigi's rabbits, 1 is on top of the castle, so you'll have to get all 150 stars to catch that one.

If you don’t want to do this, use a cheat called “all doors opened”

There's such action replay code but using that makes this star impossible to collect because you only get the star when you open the door with a key.

If you talk to the Toad next to the main entrance of the castle, you will get a clue. That's the clue to the hidden star behind the white doors.
