- Paddy McGee is a retired member of the NYPD Emergency Service Unit. On 9/11, he remembers watching the news on his day off shortly after the first plane struck the World Trade Center. He was already packing his things when the second plane impacted.
McGee worked with Scott Strauss to save the lives of Port Authority Police Officer Will Jimeno and Sgt. John McLoughlin and was awarded the New York Police Department Medal of Honor.

Yes. Listening to the 9/11 interviews, all of them knew everyone they met while working as a firefighter. I really do think they were so well trained and it was an honor for them. I don't see this in my city.
Will jimeno is one of the officer's he saved. His interview is worth the watch. RIP to the fallen and we appreciate you Paddy❤️❤️
My policy has always been; One day I may need Police Officers. At that moment they may be my best friends. Be respectful. Be thankful. The job they do is tough and many times just hard.
I love watching these and hearing the stories, they are terrifying and so incredible. So heartfelt. I really appreciate that we can capture history in this way, through video and get so much more than we ever got from previous historical events. The interviewer's voice is VERY easy on the ears too. ;)

Paddy is a real American hero, in every sense of the word! Very humble, but very very brave! He is everything that is good about NYPD and his selfless act will never be forgotten! God bless you brother, and all those who served at Ground Zero! May God have mercy on all the souls lost that day.
He should have gotten an award because he was told to leave a victim behind & refused to do so even if more rubble from a building collapsed upon him! Was willing to sacrifice his life for another! That is what makes him a HERO!
Just found out that one of the heroes of September 11 named Michael Lyons died this year 😢😢 he rescued a man named Pasquale buzzeli 😢 that day he Mike died of cancer

I do not use the word Hero lightly. However, there were so many true Heroes on and after 9/11, it staggers the imagination. Talk to any of them still living and they will deny that title. Their bravery is exceeded only by their humility. They will tell you that the Heroes were those who gave their lives assisting strangers. I can't argue that point, but anyone who risks their life doing the same deserves the same recognition. Paddy Megee and Scott Strauss were both awarded the NYPD Medal of Honor for their bravery. They say they were just doing their job. And Chuck the paramedic, he didn't even have a job at the time. Unemployed, he put on an old EMS shirt and just showed up wanting to help. He was just a civilian volunteer who exposed himself to the same danger. They let him because he was the only EMT there at the time.

I was brought to tears at several points of this interview.
It's 21 years later & I still get emotional.
The trauma of that day shall stay with me a lifetime.

That interviewer needs some sort of energy boost. He seems detached from the interview. The cut aways seem off too. No need for it.
This was so interesting he explained everything very well.
I've been watching videos on this for two weeks, but I must say the interviewer was excellent.
He let the man talk and he seemed engaged and his voice is very commanding.

Heading to NYC at the end of June 2022 to see the tribute museum and do the walking tour. If all of these heroes can live through it, I can do the very least to look at the remnants and pay my respects. I've been waiting a long time.

Comment #1: I love the ESU, like a PD version of an FD Rescue Company. Fireman call Rescue when they need help, cops call ESU when they need help. That's why those gear racks behind Paddy are painted red, the manufacterer sends them out that color because mostly the FD orders them. Anyone interested in ESU should read, "Soul of a Cop," by Paul Ragonese.

The fire fighters of NY on September 11 2001 are true hero’s and the world will never have a crew quite like that one we will be close but well never have a tight nit group as good and bonded as that family FDNY

One of the heroes many of us who were there remember was Australian. He was a civilian, very small of physical stature, but with the heart of a lion. Because of his size he could and did crawl into the smallest openings looking for voids, for life. He was one of the many volunteers that showed up before the perimeter was locked down. What I remember most was he refused to leave the site because he was afraid he wouldn't be let back in. He just kept at it day after day.

What an amazing ability to recall names of colleagues.
His emotions and denial that he deserved an award is something else. Him refusing to wear it also talks about the quality of the person.

It’s interesting how everyone says how blue the sky was or how beautiful the day was. I really believe that people say that because their senses were heightened due to the events of that day. The sky was definitely blue but if you listen to people’s stories about being in nyc that day, you’ll notice they remember little details and the way they describe situations shows that their sense were extremely heightened. Very interesting.

This is the first time I have watched 9/11 videos, perhaps due to PTSD just from having seen the events happen on live TV, starting before the second plane hit.
I knew at the time that many people would probably stay at their desks and continue working, rather than evacuate either building. That's because a few years before then, my fellow employees and I were urged to keep working when a fire alarm went off due to a fire in our building. It was not on our floor, so we remained at our desks until security guards forced us to evacuate. Later I remained working when a series of tornadoes hit my local area, including an F5, until security guards finally told us to get to safety.
So I knew that many people in the second building, and possibly even in the first building that was hit, were in their offices when the second plane hit the towers and probably even when the buildings collapsed.
On TV, I watched both of the buildings collapse, and realized with horror that there would be a huge number of victims who died. I bet that many probably died at their desks or in their offices, waiting to be told to get out.

Every year I search out 9/11 stories in my own little tribute and remembrance.
It’s very, very sad, and in my opinion wrong, that it’s September 11 2024 and on UK tv there’s NOTHING at all about this historical, horrifying day.
All there is are a few programmes on Amazon that I have watched many times over the years and they are charging people to view them in the UK. (despicable in itself as far as I am concerned).
We are sadly being slowly strangled and unable to show patriotism for our country and so I do really admire how American people are actively encouraged to love their country and fellow country folk.
To be so proud of your flag is an amazing thing that I wish could be the case here too!
I am sending my own tiny tribute and special thoughts to every single person who lost their life in all the different locations and the huge waves and ripples that affected so many human beings that day and as I have discovered it’s not just that day, because that whole time period is still taking good people and heroes because of the toxic nature of the clean up operation.
I am a 55 year old person far far away in Northern England but I promise that I am remembering and I can detail that whole day even though I was so far removed from it.

One Tuesday morning I went to work, and, in doing this I paid my tax, etc like most people. As I'm making phone calls 📞, making appointments for my boss and clients. As I am doing call of nature, there's a bang and the floor gives way. Think black smoke, the heating like never before comes. The heating and the smoke, skin peeling. Seems time is standing still. I don't know the stairs have given way no way down and no way up. I don't know that the building will collapse. Window smashed. Do I jump and have a quick death or do I wait and have a slow peeling painful death. I can't walk out to see my parents and children of my family. I jump. As I jump, remember no one can come to rescue me. Now, as I jump, I became a Hazard. Would you the reader take my place in the twin tower 🗼🫵 known as North Tower (1). ?
