  • In this 2-min follow-along video I demonstrate a relaxing breathing technique called Sheetali pranayama. This is a simple practice you can use anytime, day or night when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed and want to calm you thinking mind.
Part of the neuroscience of Gentle Somatic Yoga® includes preparing the brain to learn something new at the beginning of our practice. So the Sheetali breath is also a great way to bring us into our parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) so that we can increase self awareness on the level of feeling internal felt sensations throughout the soma.

NICE. :) Except with this type of pranayama, I understand that it is practiced with the tongue rolled which I cannot do...YET. :)

Yes, there are some genetic predispositions to being able to roll the tongue or not. :P But there are some alternatives as well. Have you since discovered a way to utilize this practice in a way that works with your body? We would love to hear more from you. Thank you for commenting and please pardon our delayed response.
