This is literally all you need , the overly bloated home studio set ups are just not necessary unless your tracking a entire band which literally nobody is , these mobile touchscreen personal recording studio will be the future, software and capabilities on iPad will only keep getting better
Young man, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for making such a helpful and easy to follow video to guide me at the beginning of my home studio journey!
My setup is the iPad Air 4 with an apple pencil, Scarlett solo, mpk mini, and a nanokontrol 2 all running either Beatmaker 3 or Cubasis 3. Need Akai to step up and bring out an mpk mini with BT so I can leave a usb slot open for other stuff.
I like Logic Pro yet FL Studio seems to come with the tools I need with quick access to switching between different effects I use on drums or other tracks. I’m glad to friend someone else who’s using an iPad studio. Sick of being told I need a $1500 computer when my iPad does all I need and I can also carry it to work when I want to use headphones and further mix my songs.
I have a 9th Gen iPad (with headphone jack built in) and an iPad Air 5th Gen (M1 processor) that I use for logic pro. They both work perfectly. I ran out of RAM with a really large project once on the 9th gen iPad, but I still prefer it for portability (I think it was a bug with having a large audio file as a loop). The iPad Air runs out of battery noticeably faster. Now if they would just add full Midi learning to the iPad version of Logic Pro and the ability to edit Alchemy and Sampler instruments...
This is why the Logic Pro IPad news is so frustrating. I get inspiration to create while in reach of my iPad way more often than I am in reach of my laptop.
I am currently producing with FL Studio Mobile and what I love about it is that I could use the synthesizers of garage band put it on the wave file and then put it into FL studio or any app for that matter. and the cool thing about FL studio so you can slice up all the stuff easily so you can make a beat really fast. I really like FL studio for this purpose and I would highly recommend anyone to use it it’s not a subscription service it has a bunch of samples it’s quite easy to use. there are barely any issues I’m just a bit confused on why sometimes the audio quality seems a bit low if someone has any help on that I’d love to hear it. 😅
For midi controllers on the iPads with the lightning port, you need Apple's usb adaptor that will need to be plugged in with a charger cable to the wall. The work around for a truely portable solution is a battery powered bluetooth midi keyboard such as the Korg microkey air 25 or there is a new contender for that category called the M Vave Smk 25 which has pads and knobs. (TAETRO has a video on it)
Man that M-wave seems like it’s comes with a lot of issues gotta connect wired to even have your PC recognize it and you gotta configure all this bs to even use it on your preferred DAW idk seems like a headache to me :/
Thanks for this Bolo! Back then, I used to use the Apple camera adapter to connect my things on my iPhone. Production on the iPad is very tempting to get into! I love my Mac Mini, I’d be in the ecosystem too 😏
See now I got to catch up… This has been on my radar for a hot minute… Just another Neat way to make music! I’m all invested today in my retro and my model 12! I got my snake, so I’m running 6 to 6… That is awesome! The preamp’s ain’t like a Neve- but it sounds dope! I can’t wait to do the little iPad thing… I’m trying to not be greedy, though you know? I know it never ends, but 🙄 You got to have a good wife in this game! One that loves you and can see your vision! Praise be to Jesus
I have a iPad setup for making beats as well Bolo I use beat maker 3 as well. The only thing with beat maker 3 is the cpu when you load plugins is really low that’s why I can only use a couple plugins on it and just use samples when I make beats on Beat maker 3 which is still ok.
I use the Audient ID4 MKII. Indeed a great sounding interface. For my hub I use the CalDigit USB-C SOHO Dock Gen.2. You can use your own USB-C cables and power everything with an external adapter. It works great with my iPad Pro 12" M2
Yo Bolo ! you can use Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to save a USB port ! I do this with my M1 iPad Pro. Also I keep a folder of samples in my iCloud, so I can access it anywhere on my iPad or Mac
Do you use studio headphones for the iPad and if so what do you use? The newer ipads are without earphone jacks and alot of the adapter dont sound the same.

I have an ipad pro 12.9 6th gen,, went to amazon for a Audient id14 and got redirecte to the id24?? The 24 has a DSP?? Is that necessary? Is the id24 worth the extra money? Also, is it compatible with my ipad? The amazon site only mentions windows. Thanks
Hey dude I got a question so I’m a rapper and I like using logic for the iPad for making beats but i’m not that great at audio engineering, I know a professional and I was wondering if it’s possible to share projects to him from logic Pro on iPad if I recorded from the iPad is it possible to share a entire project from the iPad to someone like him who uses Logic Pro x on the MacBook? Or is it not possible? And only works If I shared a project from a MacBook?
Bolo, I have a question: is there a way to connect your Roland FA06 keyboard to your iPad? Would this also allow you to use your FA as an audio interface?
I just ordered a new 2024 iPad Pro.. it seems to have a very powerful chip and better connectability. But I was wondering, does anyone know if I still need all the items in this video or can I plug directly from my Korg Kronos 2 keyboard straight in? What ipad apps/plugins/daws do you think best support MIDI controllers like the Akai? I have a pretty similar set up to you with the Akai MK3, but obviously its functionality is limited in GarageBand.
Technically no you don’t. It’s like owning an MPC but better. Some people can do it all in a mpc including mix. You can’t actually mix and mastering in BM3. Hi, when I record a midi track using my Roland fp10, connecting it via a midi cable, the midi track gets recorded in the logicpro for iPad, however since I am using the sustain pedal on my Roland, the midi track has either too much sustain or if I reduce the sustain it becomes too little. Why doesn’t record just the way I use the sustain pedal?
