The feeling of insecurity is troubling voters in Europe which may require a radical rethinking of progressive politics. While far-right forces in Germany and Europe are very successful in conveying a sense of cultural security, belonging and emotional closeness, progressive forces come across as distant and technocratic to many voters. How can progressive politics credibly combine a promise of social security with a promise of cultural security without being exclusive or catering to resentments?
