This song does a great job of characterizing Jack. The soundtrack starts off by building up to something grand-like, with how Jack was seen on top of his boat. Then it settles down to a more mellow tune with how he salutes to the hanged pirates and eventually goes into another climax with Jack's entrance at the Port. Then it finally ends with a very schemey like tune from the cellos, showing how he's clever and sneaky.
I knew the minute I saw this scene for the first time in 2003 that I was witnessing two things: 1) one of the greatest character introductions I've ever seen, and 2) the exact moment that Johnny Depp became a true movie star.
ExxKun I feel if I am listening to the pirates of the Caribbean theme I would know the first seen with Jack sparrow err sorry there is supposed to be a captain there somewhere
1:39 anyone absolutely just love this simple part? i just love the way it sounds well of course i'm obsessed with the entire soundtrack but these little cello parts are like the climax to a great eargasm ;)
0:59 is great in my opinion... I love the whole soundtrack, but nobody is mentioning this part, while i get goosebumps when listening to it, specifically when the trumpets join in around 1:06
There’s four franchises that I grew up with that defined my childhood. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, and Pirates of the Caribbean. What a time to be a kid. These movies were magic.
Step one: turn on xbox Step two: load up sea of thieves Step three: slap on the pirates of the caribbean soundtrack Step four: raid, pillage and plunder
When people talk about the soundtrack of this movie, most think of "He is a pirate", which is without a question an amazing track. But for me, this one here has always been the best one.
Spent Lizard lol imagine if that scene from potc 5 was actually a callback to jack arrival in port royal. Stillhated the 5th one tho. OT is and will be the best of all
Yeah I agree. The fifth one was an abomination. That being said, before this came out, I came up with a few theories for what would transpire. Not only did this scene come to mind, but also the fact that Jack masquerades as "Justice Smith" in On Stranger Tides, so... yeah.
his sounds a LOT like Hans Zimmer to me, and considering he wrote a lot of the music for the film, despite being uncredited for much of it, then I think it's fair to say that Hans Zimmer is a genius, and the 33 people who liked this comment are idiots.
I remember that when I was younger I would always stand up for this scene as a form of respect for Captain Jack Sparrow. I think I loved this movie a bit too much XD
I was mesmerized by this film fourteen years ago. I watch it almost every week. Just seen Dead Men Tell No Tales recently; went into it with low expectations, but I saw the various allusions to the first film and I'm hoping more sequels are made.

I want this masterpiece play at the hearing among Amber Heartless and Johnny Depp when he win the case and shout "This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow"
what made jack sparrow so good was because in the first movie, he was NOT the main character. He is the best supporting character one could ever ask for, but his character is simply not meant to be the protagonist. That's what makes the first movie so much better than the others.
Do you mean 0:59-1:13? I get goosebumps when listening to this, specifically when the trumpets jump in around 1:06, but the trombones (I think its trombones) sound pretty nice too
We're playing a mash up of these pieces in band and I am so obsessed with that these movies that when our conductor tries to change something about it I'm like "No! You will not change this heavenly piece! Hans Zimmer cut out a piece of heaven writing this and we must leave it untouched....and it'll bother the crap out of me if we play it wrong." Yep, that's what happened today.
@Capitan Jack Sparrow and so we meat again, jack, may I add captain, jack, and was it you I saw waving at my from that chared ship? And yet we still both alive.
"Hold up there you; it's a shilling to tie up ya boat at the dock, and I shall need to know ya name". "What dya say to three shillings, and we forget the name?" "Welcome to port royal mr. Smith."
Ok. Be ready for a short story. I am playing this song on my trombone in a brass ensemble and I was having a little trouble with measure 41 and 24. My conducter suggested that I listen to the song played by people who know what they're doing. And it took me forever to find this specific song. This helpd me. Thank you!
“What’s say three shillings ad we forget the name?”
“Welcome to port royal Mr. Smith”
And so Barbossa used that last name to go on the shore and get the girl named Margareth
"I knew a guy a wooden leg named smith" What was the name of his other leg? 🤣😂😂😂😂
I love it!
