      Hello Brian, I really appreciate the words of encouragement 🙏. I respect the people that do this stuff on a daily basis even more now, I'm not sure customers fully appreciate the effort involved. I certainly will be nicer to any future mechanics I encounter. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

    Even though the 3.4 might be not as cool it’s actually a stronger engine, less prone to dechunk of the cylinder wall.

    This is the first I've heard out-of-time could lead to bore scoring. Are you sure about that? Separate incidents I think. As Raby says, there are 31 different ways this engine can end its life.

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 года назад +1

      Hello Former engineer, this engine has been an education for a lot of us. At that point in the video I am talking about the IMS bearing falling apart and ruining the timing which can lead to catastrophic engine failure. All bets are off once the engine parts go out of alignment and start to hit each other. If you catch it early enough you may be lucky to only have bore scoring it could D chunk the engine and more. There are MANY flawed engine designs out there, add this one to the list. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

      @@ManinaGarage Yes sir. I've got an IMS Solution on the bench. Just installed a MaxJax. About to embark on the very same journey. On the list today is to complete the Raby 11 or 12 or whatever it is pre-inspection with the durametric and all of that.
      Thanks for making these. I'll follow along as I go as well.
      I think the m96 is a bit of a pig, but I don't know. Doesn't seem that out of the ordinary for low-volume exotics. The Ferrari vids aren't any better.
      The one repair I am somewhat apprehensive of is rebuilding the block with nikasil liners. That seems like an expensive job and one very unlikely to show up as ROI. But if I can punch it out to 4.0L, and keep the car for 5 or 10 years, maybe it comes out in the wash.

    • @ManinaGarage
      @ManinaGarage  3 года назад +1

      @@formerengineer5784 That MaxJax looks good, it doesn't block the middle part of the car, should be awesome. Where did you get your Durametric? Going into this I was expecting to find a nightmare, so far it has been fairly pedestrian. I was very concerned (My wallet was😅) about redoing the cylinder coating or installing liners, when I get the block open I will know for sure if I can reuse what I have or not 🤞🏻The tremendous controversy around these cars/engines was one of the main driving forces for me to purchase a broken one and try to fix it. Ferrari's and the like have some flaws that will make a grown man cry! Even some mass-produced BMW V8's are disposable 🤪. My hope is to have a record of correct answers for everybody to at least know the truth going in. Good luck with your project 🍀. Thank you for watching 🤘😎.

      @@ManinaGarage MaxJax build quality is horrendous. Chinese factory barely following BendPak's specification, terrible instructions. But so far it works, so I guess it is what it is.
      I believe I bought the Durametric right from the company. That is where you get the freshest Durametric from.
      Mine has bore scoring. I wasn't 100% convinced, but yesterday I got a strong telltale puff out of the driver's side exit, which tells me that's it, for sure. 61k miles.
      Plan is to address the IMS/AOS/RMS/etc. in a first phase, and then in a few years go back and do the liners. The liners is a heavy lift - at least $10k. I can't believe I'll get that back on the sale price, because the market still isn't 100% tuned into what the difference is between an M96 that's been hardened and one that has not.

      Man in a Garage Good price , I actually own a 996 C2 convertible Model year 2000 and I have done and still doing all the mechanics myself if you‘re doing the IMS bearing take a DOF ( Direct Oil Feed )Kit , and do the clutch and RMS at the same time .
