"Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear." --Albert Camus
Respect based on fear is how you survive in these concrete jungles. I respect every city I visit because ATL politics ain't LA politics and so forth.

Camus was an idiot.
Born and raised in LA and I can’t stand gangs! The cholo side of my family has brought nothing but pain and misery to the other side thats trying to build a future… All gangs give us latinos a horrible rep… I love my chicano culture and the aesthetic, but I can’t back anyone who wants to bang… The worst part is when they don’t even have to go down that route, but still do cause they want to emulate someone.. It’s sad shit… Try picking up a discipline, a skill set or just simply choose something different.. Life is a hell of a lot better when you don’t have constantly look over your shoulder..

Me and my ex went to LA just to relax and smoke, my head was on a swivel the whole time.
Ice T talks about LA like it’s still 1990. South Central and Compton are not the war zones they used to be, gang culture has been watered down, violent crime has been trending down for decades, and most “hoods” are now immigrant or working class Latino areas. The Boyz N the Hood era came and went.

I'm from Oklahoma City. I happened to be in San Diego and took the train to L.A. to go club hopping and experience the night life. One of the first things I did was find a local tour guide/crackhead. Held him down with some Whataburger and his choice candy. He gave me a tour of downtown. Now mind you, I had a bald fade and was wearing Tim's and a brown southpole suit back in 02. I found myself in the middle of a turf war. Just walking through downtown I noticed a couple of guys was following me. I asked my guide whats up with them. he was like nothing they just checking you out, you don't look like you're from around here. So we keep walking. The next time I turn around it was like 20 of them. My instincts started to kick in so I bent the first corner I could. While they couldn't see me after I bent the corner I went into a coffee shop and slid to the floor in one of the booths. About five minutes later I heard them out front looking for me. Someone even popped they head in the door and asked the clerk if they had seen me. The clerk told them no. After about ten minutes the clerk told me it was clear. I had her call me a cab and got the fuck out of there . I won't lie, they had shook.
