Thumbs up on the coat! Haven’t experienced winter since diagnosis in April, but I do enjoy nice long walks outside-great for the mental state, and for my PD symptoms all around. I’ll have to hunker down and look forward to Spring.
I love the coat and LOL, Wilson's Leather :) Totally remember those at the mall! I'd take cold over hot any day. Temperature wise, Oakland was the best climate ever....though I did miss summer nights.
Hi - I have YOPD . Welcome to autonomic dysfunction, it’s thermodysregulation. Part of one of the temperature issues. It makes me feel like a tropical fish. I have a very small range of temperatures that I feel comfortable in outside. In the winter when it is cold, I can’t walk outside when it’s below 40° and I can’t stay outside for very long in the sun when it’s anything over 85°.. I used to sweat a lot, but now it seems I’ve run out of sweat when I go outside I just overheat. My kids were laughing at me when I was wearing a hat and a winter coat and they were outside in sweatshirts the other day and it was 50°. I guess laughter is the best medicine I try and laugh things off but have to explain them at the same time, it’s good that you make these videos to spread awareness and yes, the damp days are the worst of all. When cold penetrates it makes everything really hurt..
My Parkinson’s was diagnosed in October of 2021, but by Winter of 2022 here in sunny California I was the coldest I have ever been, and my hands and feet would turn stark white. Found out I have Raynard’s Disease, where your blood vessels constrict in your hands and feet when you are cold…and now I also have nightly sweating of my feet, and have to change my socks often…strange. I also have had bouts of hypotension, and Supraventricular Tachycardia…just a few of the gifts that can be related to PD. Taking a new pill now each morning that keeps my heart rate and blood pressure stable has kept me out of the ER and ambulance rides… Thanks for sharing your observations and experiences. Your deck with wonderful scenery is beautiful. Take care.
Hey brother looking good, I love leather jackets!! I get extremeley warm, especially fr0m diskenesia. I love hot weather, try to get my tan on. Winter, cold temperatures do not bother me as my pd keeps hot..so weird. I have been hunting in -5-11 below freezing and I am totally fine, wit minial camo..very light clothing, while others wear the thick camo sets. See you on the next one
I find when it gets really cold at night(minus degrees) if i don't keep the heat on in my bedroom i struggle big time with motivation to get up in the morning for work.I know a lot of people would say that but it never used to be an issue with me pre P.D. I also now find the dark mornings and earlier dark evenings affect my mood much more than before. I also find it easier like you with a coat to use it as a type of security blanket. Glad to see you looking so well, keep it up.
Oh yes that Jacket fits your personality!! Your wife is right, that thing is out of style, but who cares! I bet that leather is soft and squishy! I have 2 leather short jackets and 1 leather long coat in the back of my closet that I just couldn't dare part with. Maybe I'll get them out for old times sake. (the good old days!) I don't deal well with extreme cold or extremely hot weather. Either can make me feel sick all over, hard to explain. I look forward to your videos ever day, I wish you would do one every day! It's like getting a call from an old friend that understands everything. Thank Goodness for the parkinson's community. Thanks Jeremy,
Holy cow! What a compliment! And I think that the jacket reminds me of old times.😊 Get those old coats out! They might cheer you up in between videos!🙌
I love the cold weather but I do not like being cold. AT ALL. My PD goes bonkers, slow and shaky. But I’ve discovered the beauty of the down vest. Lightweight, take anywhere and snuggly warm. Perfect ! Now, I must admit, I’m not a fan of the leather jacket…😬 sorry JMac. But I am a fan of people being comfortable with who they are and you rock that jacket! Stay warm, my friend!
I live in southwest Missouri. I hate the cold. As it starts to cool I start to tremor. Doesn’t matter where I am on medication cycle, cold equals tremors. So far, knock on wood, stiffness has not been a major problem. I can deal much better with the heat but then cold ac starts the shakes, so you can’t really win. I too try to walk most every day. Gotta slow the progression where I can. Thanks for this page. 😊😊
Hey Jeremy, I don’t like winter either although I really hate when it’s hot and humid. Guess I should move to Hawaii lol. Just wanted to pass along I’m 4 weeks out from my second DBS surgery.had my second programming yesterday. .doing well so far controlling my off periods- no crashing as I call it.. A surprising benefit is I’m able to sleep 8 hours a night which was impossible before. My neurologist said he can’t explain that , said he never saw that before after DBS. I hope it lasts it’s a win in my book.
I love the coat! It brings back happy memories. I wish my husband and I could fit in our coats from the 80’s, but those were donated long ago. Rock those shades! 🕶️
Nice coat; looks good and comfortable. You can’t ask for anything more. Personally I hate winter, especially since PD got hold of me. Rigidity and pain from stiffness increases. Additionally the stress level escalates due to snow removal. We were about to move to a warmer climate; however, due to health insurance and medical care we decided against the move.
Hey, that’s a great coat! 😂 No cold for me thanks. There are reasons why people huddle in sunny South Florida from now to April. Keep the great videos coming.
Aloha Jeremy! Thanks for sharing on your channel. I don’t like the cold either. So, that’s why I moved to Hawaii 🌴😎 It also helps my mental state to be surrounded by beauty in an enriched environment. Enjoy your day man!!! Stay strong 💪🏼
I used to wear “unique” clothing to work. Love the coat. I live on the southern coast of SC. It was hot and humid all summer. Heat increases my fatigue. I made it to the beach on October 2. Next time, I will take my waking poles. When we lived in St. Charles, MO, the bone chillin cold winters made me stiff and achy. That was 20 years before my diagnosis.
@@JeremyMcdonald We got a little bit of rare snow a few years ago. It’s mostly hot and humid. Hurricanes and tropical storms are an aggravation. I have a feeling it is going to be a cold winter this year. My temperature regulator is way off. Sometimes, my feet and legs are freezing and I’m sweating around the neck and forehead at the same time.
It's a killer for me. I hate the cold!makes me more painful. You always cheer me up.. and yes I worr a blue Jean skirt the other day and my granddaughter said.." ohhh nice skirt nana.. they're coming back in style. ...well,sorta " 😂
First off, definitely dig the coat! Almost as iconic as my favorite cookie monster shirt my wife hates😅. I'm a native Floridian, summers never really bothered me growing up. I also was a meat head for over 25 years, so I enjoyed the cold, and adapted to the extremes. But over the past 5ish years, I can't handle temp changes either way. My go to range is between 76-60. This past summer was brutal with beyond sweating and trying to stay hydrated. Definitely wore me out really fast. As for anything under 60 now, if I get cold, it's extremely hard to warm back up, my bones chill faster, and I also stiffen up.... bought myself heated long john's to try this winter? Thanks for the share, u keep doing u brother!
I do have more of a problem with stiffness in the cold now. I don't remember when I did like being too cold, though. My career started out in the fire service. As a firefighter in SoCal, cold wasn't an issue. When I came back to DC and took a firefighting job there, I learned to work in colder temps. It was never a problem, but I can't say I liked doing that work in any extreme temperature. Now, if I pass an engine running a call, but it's either hot or cold, I'll think about how I'm glad it's not me. When the temps are reasonable, though, that's exactly where I want to be. I like your jacket. I don't know what style is anymore. If your dear wife looked at my wardrobe, she would probably say I need to get rid of 75% of it. She would be right, I am sure. I haven't cared about style since I don't remember when. I've lived in this mountain by myself for too long. lol
I hate being cold and my tremors are worse the colder I get. I also fine temperature regulation is hard for me. I was diagnosed July 2021 with left side Parkinson’s .
I prefer the cold. Colder the better. I worked in the HEAT most of my life. On roofs repairing ACs. Ya think i would be used to it. I hated it but it made me a good living. Anyway if i could i would move to a colder climate. Not Gona happen so I make the best of it here in SE Alabama. We are supposed to get some cooler weather next week. Yaaaa. Anyway thanks Keith Oh yea. I love the coat. Mine is a lined blue jean thats torn and stained from it use. Was my father in laws so my wife is ok with it.
Hi and thanks for your videos. I'm curious - have you tried Red Light Therapy yet? There's another Parkinson's person on RUclips who has some videos on his experience with it - and it has improved many of his symptoms. It's not a cure of course, but improvement is always good : )
Thx for the question, Nancy! I believe you are talking about David from Life With Parkinson’s. He is a good friend of mine and has had some success with red light therapy. And, no, I haven’t tried it yet.
I like your jacket, but would i wear it? No lol honestly, it looks heavy around the neck. Correct me if i wrong 😅 as for cold, it’s the only weather i would wish this disease on 😂 i already have a hard time talking without meds, but add cold and i get complete jaw lock.
Hi, I’m in Ireland can I ask you if the cold affects your speech? I’m seeing my neurologist in April and haven’t had a formal diagnosis yet but think it will come in April. I find it difficult to form words in the cold weather and sound drunk almost. Does this happen to anyone else please? I have difficulty moving my face when I’m cold? Am I a freak lol
Me and the cold aren't friends. It knocks the piss out of me.... literally. One of the first symptoms I experienced, before I knew what was wrong with me ,happened late in fall. I ran a 5k and totally lost my bladder in the cold during the race. I had thick black leggings on and I don't think anyone noticed. When I'm cold I shake more. Tomorrow the husband and I are headed to South Texas for the winter. I'll be able to be more active and that helps. My fashion faux pax is a jean jacket from 1999. Covered in patches of some of the bands I've seen. Zeppelin, AC/DC, Alice Cooper and more. Lots of memories.😢
Thumbs up on the coat! Haven’t experienced winter since diagnosis in April, but I do enjoy nice long walks outside-great for the mental state, and for my PD symptoms all around. I’ll have to hunker down and look forward to Spring.
Thx, Ken!
This Aussie girl sweats even in winter and love the jacket
I sweat year round, too! Thx, Mummy Jo!
I love the coat and LOL, Wilson's Leather :) Totally remember those at the mall! I'd take cold over hot any day. Temperature wise, Oakland was the best climate ever....though I did miss summer nights.
That’s funny that you remember Wilson’s Leather! I used to love going in there just for the smell alone.🙌

It's a mixed bag. The cold relieves some stiffness & muscle spasms. But it makes the distonia in my feet worse, & makes them hurt much more.
That sounds about right. I worked in a meat freezer for years, so I seem to have picked up some resistance to the cold.
