I bought a HB singlecut LP used off Reverb for $300 and it's probably the best playing guitar I have ever owned in my 25 years of playing - and I have two USA PRS guitars. I was told it was professionally setup and I suspect they might have done a fret level on it - cause it's magnificent. And it STAYS IN TUNE with the stock non-locking tuners. I may have just gotten lucky but I'm blown away by the quality and the sound.

The Harley Benton Guitar brand is owned by Thomann and made in several countries at factories in Indonesia, Vietnam and China. Those same factories make guitars for Fender / Squire and Gibson / Epiphone brands too.

It must be one of those baked/burnt/cooked maple fretboards, whatever they call their baking process. Something in the pile of fretboards that they stuck in the oven must of shielded that part of the fretboard. Looks really cool though. Bet if you hung on to that guitar for about 20-30yrs you can the sell it for a lot more than you paid for it.

Harley Benton Guitars are extremely high quality for their price. The reason behind this is, they are produced directly for Thomann, and only sold by them. No middle men, no advertisement.

TheBoabby50 Right on! Test it clean for good tone first. One can always distort, dirty up, overdrive and fuzz it up afterwards. I do the same with amps. If a guitar or amp doesn’t have good clean tones to begin with, I evaluate that as a negative.

I'm going to look this one up, but most harley bentons with humbuckers have coil split. Try pulling the tone control up. Those roswells have a lovely single coil tone, I have them on both my CST-24T (PRS copy) and my HB-35 (335 copy). I bought with the idea of swapping them out for something "better" but found them to be perfectly good pickups. I think Roswell is Thommans own brand, therefore not well known.

That light colored stripe on the fingerboard is sapwood. That is wood that is taken from the outer part of the tree. Because they are a cheeper company they probably use cheap wood to build there guitars. Cheep wood doesn't always mean bad wood I'm sure it's structurally sound but if they used premium quarter sawn heartwood rosewood there guitars would cost a lot more. Still that's an incredible deal for that guitar. I would just swap the pickups, electronics, nut, and tuning keys and I bet that would be a killer guitar.

I'm thinking of picking one of these up just to see what the fuss is all about. I'm fine with them being knocked out with CNC precision, a little concerned about about the really cheap electronics and pups, but I can easily upgrade that stuff, but what is holding me back is the unknown Customs charges when shipping to the U.S. I've heard people say they had zero extra charges and others who say the courier came to their house with an extra bill from Customs. Is it a few dollars? Is it $100? Is it zero?
Can anyone share their experience buying from and shipping to the states?

    • @jimr5703
      @jimr5703 4 года назад +1

No customs charges. You buy up to 3 guitars and shipping is roughly $32 TOTAL, depending on the exchange rate. The package arrives at your door without extra fuss. When ordering be certain to check the availability. I had to wait 7 weeks for my TE-40 because it was back-ordered. Electronics are fine, and the pickups are surprisingly very good. The only issue I had was the connectors they use for quick assembly. They really sucked azz and the guitar would cut out randomly. I cut the connectors off and soldered the wires - problem solved.

@@jimr5703 Thanks. I'm lucky enough to have quite a few guitars. A couple Gibson Les Paul's and SG's, a couple Epiphone Les Paul's and SG's, an ES339, Flying V, a couple PRS double cutaways and a Fender Telecaster. Always looking to add something with a different tone than what I have. Maybe a Strat next.
I did end up picking up an HB SC450 Plus Les Paul. It's cool, I wasn't too impressed with the pups, they weren't bad, just didn't care for them. I had some Gibson 57's set aside, so I put them In and gutted the electronics. I put in some CTS 500k DPDT pots, Switchcraft jack and Switchcraft 3 way switch and some .22 orange drop capacitors. Wired it 50's style with coil tap. Sounds pretty good. I found it in a pawnshop for $100 and it looked brand new. I already had all the parts but I think I probably paid $45 for all the components and I got the 57's from a guitar store that was going out of business for $160 for the pair.
      Not bad for $305 total!
I had to open up the holes for the pot shafts a bit. A couple turns with a tapered reamer and they opened right up.
As far as everything else, it sure looks nice, the neck feels fine, maybe a bit fat for my liking but it's good. Fretwork was good. I leveled 2 of them which compared to the 5 Epiphones I have, that wasn't bad at all. My Epiphones all needed at least 5 and as many as 9 frets leveled. All in all, I like it.
Thanks for the info, appreciate it!

Necks on the Harley Benton guitars have fairly common dimensions, but some models get a neck profile you wouldn't expect. Example; the S620 is a shredder guitar, but the neck profile is similar to a Les Paul. I've got the TE-40 model and am very comfortable with the neck. If you like a fast playing neck profile, this one or the Harley Benton SC Custom are really nice. If you like a PRS, the Fusion series is superb value for money.

Save your money and buy a good guitar ! Something that will last for your entire life and something you can leave your son or daughter . One of them will pick up an instrument if you expose them to playing . Teach them song that are easy and fun . You remember the first song or riff you learned. You that you discovered something awesome . And you never stopped practicing and taking lessons . That’s the key no one gets ! Is lessons from a professional guitarist is the fastest and proper way to start getting a band and playing auditorium’s ! Forget this guitar , if you must have a inexpensive guitar buy a Fender Squire or a Epiphone or a PRS SE model used and put Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio pickups and that baby will burn . Don’t buy something you will grow out of . My best friend purchased one of these guitars and gave it to me after 2 months . It just sits in my home studio in the far corner collection dust . And my buddy went out and bought a Gibson Sg used for $900 dollars . He like my 61 Sg a lot so he went on Reverb and got a good deal from Chicago Music . And now he’s happy . All you need is one great guitar boys and girls !

You must be one of those "popular" brand kinda guys. Kinda like those guys that believed Nike Air's would make you jump higher back in the day..A guitar no matter the brand (for the most part) will last a lifetime if it's taken care of. It's wood and electronics. that's it. I remember when Ibanez were considered " Cheap foreign" guitars. I remember when ESP's were kinda looked at as "cheap" back in the 80's they were more known for making replacement parts, but their guitars weren't really selling and you could actually find an ESP parts catalogue in guitar magazines and order a "custom" made guitar cause they specialized in parts. Some brands take time to generate. But like Nike it's just leather and rubber, like most other shoes made in Tawaiin, China and other Asian countries. It's the brand name we're paying so much for. Even Gibson uses some materials that are manufactured in China. Just cause it says "Made in the USA" doesn't mean everything was actually made in the US, it was just put together in the US and passed certain inspections. Which is why Gibson filed BK, people are onto their scam of over pricing it's name instead of quality. HB"s are in competition w/ Epi's and other brands that are inflating their prices due to brand name, like Gibson, Gretsch, PRS, Taylor, ESP and Schecter. But their biggest competition are Epi's I think. But I'd take a HB over Epi's anyday of the week and both made in China. That's because HB's right now are still under pricing Epi's and everyone else they're competing against. And it's a better option that going with Chibsons due to the "Customs and copyright laws"

@@ryant3600 I agree! So many of the "name brand" stuff is made overseas! I was looking to buy Fender American parts not too long ago. I looked at the package in the ad on Ebay. Said Fender Corona, California. Below that it said made in Taiwan or Indonesia. Wasn't made in America, for sure! It's hard to get made in America anymore! So I bought Chinese parts. What's the difference? Price. That's about all!👍😎🎸🎶

Ray Garcia Ray, you are forcing your values on to other people. Some folks may be happy with one guitar for their life, others like myself prefer a variety. I have a number of cheap guitars all of which I enjoy playing. Also I have two beauties, 1967 Gretsch Viking and a more recent Maton 12 string. My favourite? A cheap Cort dreadnought acoustic. Gorgeous action and silky sound. If I ever had to sell them all that would be the last one to go.

Have you ever played a Benton? Compared to the squier the Bentons beat them in everything for half the price on for the rest of the money you can change the pick ups. What kind of bullshit advise are you giving. Yeah you are probably from a company trying to promote your crap
