For the record Mikael does write drum parts to a degree. He writes everything really, directly or indirectly. Not without influence from others but he's the musical mastermind that composes everything.
Yes, which is absolutely remarkable - Seriously, there's gotta be someone's else's soul in that dude's body half the time!! That's some evil, dark shit but brilliant.
But anyone in the band do have a say on any changes he lets the band add to what they play so they all have a say in the end result . It is the best way to keep your band together for a long time as we have seen with them & on the other side of the coin The Allman Brothers Band did the same & they survived damn near 50 years. True creativity comes from everyone that is in a band & works together .
Not being a massive Opeth fan myself I thought I'd give them a further listening, after a session that lasted about two hours I can fully say I'm a huge fan and fuck! This performance was unreal. Listen to them drums! Damn.
Berly Tannyono Putra - I don't know how talented Grohl is because I have no interest in his music. But I have heard that he is one of the highest paid musicians of all time. Pretty sure he is considered to be the richest American Rocker. Kind of embarrassing.
It seems like they’re trying to solve an audio problem at 1:30 (and there’s a guitar part in the studio version that is absent here as a result), but I actually love the effect it creates. Guitar howling while the drumming just thrums onward.
The finish is called transparent black or possibly charcoal though that colour is usually reserved for private stock instruments and the one Mikael is using here isn't a private stock. The quilt is a description of the maple
A friend of mine told me that Watershed is written from both guitarists. The main writer is mikael, frederick gave him an hand and in my opionion did a great job :)
chaak castellanos Mike's growl has improved though. Chances are he might use that on the next record. He said he might revert back to being old-school or something like that
@astroandyborgloh I was lookin this up a couple of days ago actually. It's by a band Popol Vue and the song is Kleiner Kreiger. Info in the description. Cheers. watch?v=KzAT6PKGmuU
i vaguely recall a documentary where someone said something about how akerfeldt wrote the drum part. it isnt too far fetched i think; sometimes the guy who writes the main riffs has a pretty thorough idea what kind of beat they want with it.
One of my highlights of the weekend along with Volbeat , Megadeth , Slipknot.....the list went on and on. A f**ck load of people there this year and trying to get the the bar after Limp Bizkit was almost comical I always seemed to be walking in the wrong direction! ;)
Mike is so pissed at whoever is the Front of House engineer!!! He has those mad eyes going on because of that fucking screeching! Plus, his solo couldn't be heard well! Great performance nonetheless by the most amazing, unique, and unparalleled band in the world!!!
@marcuscengiz its not having any growls no, like none at all. Also what album were you listening to?! watershed had growls dude! or did you miss the Lotus Eater??
@npnaia i think maybe the fact the recent album is clean vox probably gave his voice a rest. thank god beause his bloodstock performances werent that great.
I was there, It was an amazing set, shame it started to rain As I was at the gig, I was unable to record it, do you have the orignal files, I would love to have a copy for my collection. I cant find them anywhere.
Get some respect for other peoples taste of music for gods sake. I don't like Slipknot that much anymore, but I saw them in Stockholm last year and it was insane. Right now, Opeth is my number 1 favorite.
Such a bummer that the keyboards are non-existant on this performance. Frederik's guitar is very low as well; it really sucks for such a powerful performance.
The hair of Jesus. The voice of an angel and the growl of Satan. Best way to describe Mikael.
His growling is so crisp. Just flawless. It has a kind of restrained sound, makes it seem more disturbing and inhuman.
For the record Mikael does write drum parts to a degree. He writes everything really, directly or indirectly. Not without influence from others but he's the musical mastermind that composes everything.
WybjornVR seriously? Even for watershed part?
Yes, which is absolutely remarkable - Seriously, there's gotta be someone's else's soul in that dude's body half the time!! That's some evil, dark shit but brilliant.

10:13 so nice to see someone labeled "artist" and actually be an artist
why does this footage have a frame rate like its streaming from blighttown
It is the actual framerate the streaming had back when I recorded it.
oh that's too bad :(
PinkFloydrulez dark Souls fan ?
Heh, did not expect this kind of joke here. Truth has been spoken
A pink floyd fan AND a creepypasta fan in the one comments thread? Awesome
Not being a massive Opeth fan myself I thought I'd give them a further listening, after a session that lasted about two hours I can fully say I'm a huge fan and fuck! This performance was unreal. Listen to them drums! Damn.
Dave Grohl is such a talented dude.
Berly Tannyono Putra - I don't know how talented Grohl is because I have no interest in his music.
But I have heard that he is one of the highest paid musicians of all time.
Pretty sure he is considered to be the richest American Rocker. Kind of embarrassing.
I think you didn't get the joke
Berly...don't waste your time, and yes they look similar and have similar stage attitude, though
Long hair, beards, and an attitude on stage from a musician? Boy, you sure are clever.
Dave Growl
His growls aren't as great as from lamentations but DAMN! They sound awesome in this performance. He looks like he's enjoying himself while growling.
6:42 love the whole song, but this part is so freaking good.
Them doing this song live is something everybody should see. Trust me it is the best feeling you can feel in your soul. Saw them in Chicago.
It seems like they’re trying to solve an audio problem at 1:30 (and there’s a guitar part in the studio version that is absent here as a result), but I actually love the effect it creates. Guitar howling while the drumming just thrums onward.
That's intentional. They are just inducing feedback.
love the comus tshirt! they did an incredible album in the 70's, a creepy piece of acoustic beauty
The HD beauty -.-
Best metal band ever!
It's incredible that for the 20 or so years that they've been playing Mikael's voice has only gotten stronger.
the atmosphere was wicked. it had just started to drizzle, and to start the set with this song was just amazing.
legend has it that mikael writes everything including the drum part
opeth is much more than metal.
they were so good! couldn't believe how spot on they were
I was down at the front for this, amazing!
The finish is called transparent black or possibly charcoal though that colour is usually reserved for private stock instruments and the one Mikael is using here isn't a private stock. The quilt is a description of the maple
They were unreal! Note perfect!!
0:22 *sitting in a corner smoking weed waiting for the show'*
I always love opeth.....
The most evil opeth song ..
4:04 - A wild Periphery appears
A friend of mine told me that Watershed is written from both guitarists. The main writer is mikael, frederick gave him an hand and in my opionion did a great job :)
why oh why did they only get 50 minutes? Opeth deserve a whole day!
metal and bongos... ahhhh perfection =)
that is the most brutal growl ever!
damn it the keyboards as so freakin' quiet.
the clean vocals here really sound like Candlemass !
@marcuscengiz Lol, you forgot about that song? Heir Apparent, The Lotus Eater and Hessian Peel all have growls. That's about half of Watershed.
Sickest growls ever!
totally
He HAD the sickest growls ever. Not anymore.
Id say hes pretty alright now
DukeofHazard11 They still playing their song with growls tho
chaak castellanos Mike's growl has improved though. Chances are he might use that on the next record. He said he might revert back to being old-school or something like that
Holy shit, right out of the gates with this brutally beautiful masterpiece.
beautiful Guitar ! :)
i don't know of the rest... but the growl is amazing here....
What's the tune before they start playing? Sounds familiar but can't put my finger on it...
It's called Through Pain to Heaven by Popol Vuh
Hampus Paulsson thank you. ☺️
The band which wrote the song used as Opeth's intro.
@xCrumblingMirth The sound checks were really off for most of that day to be frank. Could barely hear Bill Bailey from any distance.
@xCrumblingMirth Actually seeing it live and from where I was standing it was incredible :D
I was towards the front. Opeth slayed!
Misha and Jake are here!!!
6:28 Best part of song
Popol Vuh - Through Pain to Heaven
I know it's a custom 24 and the finish is called Black Quilted top finish I believe.
@SebaChannel If anything, the keyboards and bongo's were way too soft... the bass was fine
ohh yeahhhhh
@astroandyborgloh I was lookin this up a couple of days ago actually. It's by a band Popol Vue and the song is Kleiner Kreiger. Info in the description. Cheers. watch?v=KzAT6PKGmuU
I've never seen anyone that seems less disturbed by screaming like that EVER! XD Fucking brutal!! \m/
Dude that guy is probably fucking shredding it on the keyboard
good to see Akerfeldt have good growls again. So it must have been the in-ear monitors causing the problem
can see myself up front! \m/
@marcuscengiz No, the new album is all Prog-Rock. No growls.
4:47 Jake from Periphery
at 3:45 there's that screeching sound and then Mikael looks back like he's about to fucking kill someone haha
and Jack in Periphery! 4:47
i vaguely recall a documentary where someone said something about how akerfeldt wrote the drum part. it isnt too far fetched i think; sometimes the guy who writes the main riffs has a pretty thorough idea what kind of beat they want with it.
02:40-02:50 Just awesome :D
the new keyboardist looks like a cool dude
I miss Per :(
Just saw them last night. This song, played live, is a religious experience. Mikael Akerfeldt sounds like a fucking tornado.
@mwheeler1994 yeah I hope live this was better, also the bongo's are way too soft! Should hear those well, that makes this song so tribal metal :-)
4:04 is that Misha Mansoor in the back???!
i have miss peter lindgren and martin lopez
Opeth fuckin RULES.
HIS VOCALS IZ EPIK
@mglenter was it broadcasted on tv? Because this looks exactly like the choppy webstream version I watched.
One of my highlights of the weekend along with Volbeat , Megadeth , Slipknot.....the list went on and on. A f**ck load of people there this year and trying to get the the bar after Limp Bizkit was almost comical I always seemed to be walking in the wrong direction! ;)
Os teclados não aparecem muito na música ;-;
Mike is so pissed at whoever is the Front of House engineer!!! He has those mad eyes going on because of that fucking screeching! Plus, his solo couldn't be heard well! Great performance nonetheless by the most amazing, unique, and unparalleled band in the world!!!
@Skidbladner thats what I thought, the other guy said tv
@JNeelDalMav your not the only one who think that
@dewiowen1 Thank you very much. Krautrock rules! the germans conquered the world, but in good way.
Hi shirt should have "The audience always" above the writing.
@rhooker001 yea soz i forgot about that song
Comus!!!!
@facu23996 It's "nigga please".
What's the intro called?
Intro!
I thiink Mikael's mustache has super powers
@marcuscengiz its not having any growls no, like none at all. Also what album were you listening to?! watershed had growls dude! or did you miss the Lotus Eater??
Slipknot and Opeth are the best live bands ever existed.
Does Mikael write all the guitar parts, or does Frederik write some too?
Fredik wrote Porcelain Heart.
My word Opeth rule!
DAT GROWL
@npnaia i think maybe the fact the recent album is clean vox probably gave his voice a rest.
thank god beause his bloodstock performances werent that great.
I was there, It was an amazing set, shame it started to rain
As I was at the gig, I was unable to record it, do you have the orignal files, I would love to have a copy for my collection. I cant find them anywhere.
is the new album gonna have growls??? watershed was all clean vocals
samoth on drums
(the)popol vuh is the mayan´s sacred book
Whats that intro music they are using?
Get some respect for other peoples taste of music for gods sake. I don't like Slipknot that much anymore, but I saw them in Stockholm last year and it was insane. Right now, Opeth is my number 1 favorite.
Is the Mendez's bass quite or it just my computer?
@mwheeler1994 the mix is low on bass. And bongos. A pity.
Such a bummer that the keyboards are non-existant on this performance. Frederik's guitar is very low as well; it really sucks for such a powerful performance.
