When Rxh2 was shown I actually laughed out loud, I was not expecting that move at all, but as soon as I saw it I knew we were in for a treat. My god Mamedyarov has played two once-in-a-lifetime games back to back. Absolutely incredible. Genuinely, incredible.
Incredible game! Mamedyarov seemed to have been on rough streak, lately. Glad to see him playing such amazing chess. I think this might be my favorite game of 2022, truly a masterpiece.
My favorite player atm. Dubov is close but i dont see him play much these days. Both of them can lose big time but when they win it's pure art. Go Shak !
Monster Mamedyarov! That is absolutely a shell-shocking move, that Rxh2!! And what follows is a lethal predator hunting down the kingside. Rapport earned my respect by resigning on this move. P. S.: Shakh keeps finding fantastic combinations against Rapport in rapid games.
Mamedyarov has created a couple games just in this tournament that are just amazing and fun to watch. What a brilliant tactician. He seems to see offensive schemes that no one else sees.
Sadly, other players actually go for time saving routine moves and try to eak out a win from that. There is nothing wrong as such in doing that, but it robs us fans from seeing spectacular and entertaining games.
When i was new to chess i thought Dubov was the most exciting player until i saw Shakh, he is even better IMO, win or lose you are usually up for beautiful games
If Rapport takes the rook, then Rh8+, Kg2, Bf3+, Kg1 and Rh1++. If after Rh8+, Kg1, then Bf3 and there is no defense to Rh1++. Greetings from Costa Rica 😊✌🏻
#suggestions, why he resigned at 0630 Qb5 check then either king has to go to row 8 not allowing and blocking rook immediately to give check at h8. If he brings knight in between then one attacker is gone and you can capture Rook followed by knight with black bishop?
I don't like how white sacked his knight going for that attack on the king, when his attack had no real continuation. Maybe he sensed it was now or never, but it seemed ill advised as black had an ominous mating web forming with a lot of active pieces.
Hey Antonio, the game didn't end there. I don't know if you missed the game altogether but the PGN is public knowledge. It was 18 moves and Rapport did took the queen. You can look the game anywhere
This truly shows that even though chess has been explored so thoroughly and deeply, it is so diverse that even super GM's can lose so early in the game
The downside to chess is it is so often decided by memorization and not skill. Even at the highest levels of one player memorizes a certain line deeper than another then they can surprise someone and win. I'm a lifelong chess player, rated 1800+ at one point, and I love it more than any other game, but this is definitely a huge limitation. In players of equal skill, the one with a better memory for openings has a distinct advantage. This is why Fischer chess is so much better. Take away the point of memorization and then skill alone wins.
As an artist who does paintings and classical music, I am into chess also. Though my online rating is around 2050, I really do consider what these top players do as art. You just need an intermediate knowledge of the game to see it.
What would’ve happened if white played Kxh2? I know there is a winning line for black if that were to happen but I would appreciate someone telling me the fastest checkmate if Richard had played Kxh2 just to see the line😅

Same haha I gave the full stank face and laughed
That queen to b5 check line was amazing as the bishop comes back to C1 to save the king and opening up rook on h8...that's why chess is an art!
Shakh's quiet confidence seems unbeatable even when he loses. I really like that about him.
Incredible game! Mamedyarov seemed to have been on rough streak, lately. Glad to see him playing such amazing chess. I think this might be my favorite game of 2022, truly a masterpiece.
It would be truly amazing as a classical game. Playing it in a rapid tournament elevates it to superhero status. My favorite game, too. Cheers!
Seeing a forced mate in 10+ moves is a superpower of a skill ... Impressive
I couldn't understand the rook h1!. However then I saw it after pausing the video and wow! Just wow! In real time Shakh saw this!

by watching shakh's game against giri and this game, he reminds me of old grandmasters like bobby, kasparov, tal etc.
Chess is beautiful with Shakh ❤️
Am watching this one twice in a row. Ending so soooooooo complicated. How in the world did Rapport know it was time to resign???

Because shakh sacrifices his rook
Just super GM things
