    Really great instructions and drills for this situation Jordan & Katrina! I think the thought of centering on the backhand and showing the reach of the backhand is a really great point (and how you showed it with the 2 balls on the court).

    Jordan you post the best instruction videos! I always get caught retreating as I don't get my feet set before my opponent's shot. I also like the tip utilizing your backhand , I always use my forehand. Thanks for the video keep them coming!

    Great Tips Jordan and excellent defense Katrina. You hit the nail on the head for playing defense, practice, practice with your drills will make you a better defensive player. Cannot wait to try the drills and see you in AZ this Sept-Oct for a tune-up. PBK looks nice, some of my friends joined as it is blazing hot in AZ now. Keep Cool!

    Great video and tips! The one thing not mentioned is that there are always opponents that will sometimes tap the ball over the net while I am back. Those are almost impossible to run up to and return.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  2 года назад

      Yes of course, although at higher levels, the ball will most likely be coming at your feet.

  • @JT-ip2vq

    Clear and makes a lot of sense - thanks Mr Briones. Just one thing I'm wondering, though: what about the strategy when I'm playing with a partner? If my dink/reset is clearly high enough to be attacked, I suppose I should shout out to him/her 'watch out' etc so that we both retreat together? If only I retreat/stay forward (and my partner does the opposite) that is bound to create holes in our defence, isn't it?

    Great video and provides some answers to my forum question. You recommend two-handed backhand and I'll try that. What would you suggest to help make my block return go in the kitchen instead of being another pop-up? I noted that many of Katrina's block returns were really high (no dig on her, mine look just like that). What do we do to fix that?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  2 года назад +1

      Practice. Lots of your balls will go high and to the net at first. Good technique, good balance, and a LOT of drilling will fix that. It took me a few months to really get locked in with my two handed block.
      Katrina has only been working on it for a couple of months now.

    Should you back up for balls that are high enough for the opponents to hit hard at an angle downward BUT not a full overhead straight down smash?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  5 месяцев назад

      That’s definitely a feel thing. Being balanced and stable at constant is the key to defense.

      As for retreating back and then split stepping, it can apply, although you may not have the time to do so. Your reaction time at the NVZ is so limited. I will make another video about this.
