Hi Jordan. Another excellent video. 😊 You make everything look so easy. I received quite a few take aways today. My serve isn’t consistent yet so that’s my number one goal. I must keep practicing. I LOVE your last tip. Develop a Serving Routine. The people I play with serve so quickly and I’m so slow. I’m trying to develop that routine before I serve like you mentioned in a couple of your videos. This routine I’m working on slows me down and I don’t feel as anxious. I’ll be able to practice your tips on this week.💃🏽 Thank you!!!!
Jordan this video about helping with your pickleball serve was a game changer for me. I had been struggling with my serve until I watched this video. I have developed a pre serve routine and a good pace of serve now. Thanks for the videos Samantha K.
For your last tip regarding the release, approximately about what height should your contact point be at? Also, have you done a video on the mechanics of a slice serve yet?
Hey Jordan, I appreciate all your videos. One thing I would have liked to see is an explanation on targeting the serve. Depending on your opponent’s positioning, etc. I suppose just hitting it deep is the goal?
Hey Jordan, Great video, so true. Start slow find the groove. The one thing I have been work with my students, kind like putting in golf, keep you head down and watch the ball hit the paddle. I personally found success with this. Thanks, Bill
I serve with a firm wrist to help put topspin on the ball, looks like you have a lot of wrist snap? That would give you more pace, but does it give you less spin?
Would you please also comment on "letting the ball bounce, then hit on the apex"?I always bounce it first, feel that I have more time before contact, and the ball is still at apex. Thx. for all your great videos.
Great video as always! I noticed that you have your paddle head parallel with the ground on the backswing, wrist cocked. Do you hold that position until impact and your wrist releases on the follow through?
@@BrionesPickleball I have also noticed this, in your other vids as well. Could you do an addition to this video, on your release through the ball. Thanks for all your hard work!
Jordan, Long question about serving. I just won Gold in mens dbbls and my partner was a bit miffed that I "missed" some serves. My serve is VERY hard n low to the net , thus prone to errors. However, I'm about 95%+ overall.. I also served 7-0 and 6-0 points on two different occasions..Total missed serves about 6 over 12 games.. Your thoughts..?? Thanks, Kev-
If me and my partner win the game, there should be no whining about missing serves. It’s about knowing when to go for more, and when to play a little bit more conservatively. Missing serves doesn’t matter as much, what matters is when you miss them. Even pros miss serves. I would say anything over 90% is a great percentage if you’re winning easy points on serve.
@@BrionesPickleball Ok, that's kinda what I was thinking. I missed some but I "carried" us on some as well... I coach serving as a specialist and I was having trouble with slippery grip so I know what the issue was. Thanks for the affirmation. Take care..
I like to have an indicator if I hit a powerful serve when practicing serves. For tennis it is hitting the back fence before the second bounce. I practice my pickleball serves on a tennis court and try to have the second bounce go beyond the tennis baseline when going for the power serve.
Hi Jordan all the way from Western, NY. I have been working on my serve with increased speed and deeper balls and in rec play I have been improving but in the ladder league I get conservative (whimp out 😊) as all points count and I don`t want to make a mistake.Your vids will help as always!, thanks Steve
I'd say that Jordan's main pre-serve routine is to spin his paddle, but we all know he does it constantly before and after every shot. It's as natural as breathing.
It may depend on your sports background. If you were used to serving the ball out of your hand in volleyball, or badminton, there is almost no transition to hitting it out of your hand in pickleball. The plus side is almost no toss variable. Other racket sports not so much.
Letting the ball drop to optimal height before you strike the ball is important. Also, hitting the ball right out of the hand may limit your rotation because your hand will be in the way.
@@BrionesPickleball As a player that hits out of my hand if the ball needs to drop before you hit if then you are hold the ball too high for that type of serve. As far as torso rotation you can choose a different plane to rotate around. As far as moving the hand out of the way at the last fraction of a second, that is subconscious.
@@dalevoigt8612 watch all the best servers serve, they definitely let the ball drop for optimal power, and they don’t hit it right out of their hand. Dekel, Zane, Tyson to name a few

Hi Briones. Can you help me about paddles? I want a good paddle for spin shots. Paddletek Phoenix G6 Pickleball Paddle or Rally Graphite Power 5.0 Pickleball Paddle | Honeycomb Core, Graphite/Polymer Hybrid Composite I’m beginner / Going to Intermediate
One thing I would add to your serve prep: call the score before you start your serve motion, and wait a second for any response. I have seen too many out serves resulting from the distraction of a miscalled or misunderstood score. Generally there is no need to rush the serve windup by mixing it with a score call
I tried slowing down the video and noticed on the last two serves you demonstrate --- A. the ball is struck very very close to the waist and B. As the paddle sweeps up to brush the ball and apply topspin, the paddle head 'seems' to be higher than your wrist. I've almost stopped trying these recommended serves because unless you serve in a painfully obvious legal way, someone will call illegal serve during a game.
All serves here are legal. Everyone should learn to serve this way. Also, if you are that concerned with legality, just hit a drop serve with the same motion.

Jordan … like the side view with blue court that shows your contact point for serve. Great content that I will forward to students.

I think a good contact point would be just under hip level. I’ll have to do a serve video soon!

Hi Jordan, I always enjoy your tips and tricks for better Pickleball technique. BTW is this a new channel?

Continental or eastern, whatever you prefer.

Are you talking about a drop serve? Yes, you should let it apex if you can.
Great video as always! I noticed that you have your paddle head parallel with the ground on the backswing, wrist cocked. Do you hold that position until impact and your wrist releases on the follow through?
Yes, that’s my starting position. After contact, I follow through and “let” my wrist go.
@@BrionesPickleball I have also noticed this, in your other vids as well. Could you do an addition to this video, on your release through the ball. Thanks for all your hard work!
Volley serve or drop serve? I don’t notice much if any difference. Is it just preference?
Yes, although with the volley serve, you can hit the ball from a higher contact point.
Thank you jordan
Np!
Hey Jordan! How would you compare the pursuit paddle to the encore paddle?
Pursuit more power
Encore more touch
Jordon, I use the drop serve. do these tips apply to the drop serve?.
Yes, with the exception of the release on the drop serve, because you will have to let the ball bounce before you hit it.
How often to you step into it for extra power?
I do that if I want extra power. Make sure to master a regular serve first!

Eastern
One thing not mentioned was how close to the center line do you want to be on your serve?
It depends. I’ll have to make a video on this soon!
Hoe do you keep a real loose grip and a loose arm and at the same time keep your wrist and paddle stable?
Practice. I would start by serving a slow/medium pace and go from there.
