These neck techniques have helped me more than ANYTHING in 20 years with occipital and trigeminal neuralgia (pinching on the nerves at the base of the skull that creates excruciating pain) and also subluxation of the C spine. The muscles get so tight from th circle of pain / stiffness & pinching that the bones WON'T move off the nerves for many days or even weeks. It affects my arms and hands as well so that they are too weak to try to massage myself, and massage doesn't compare to what YOUR techniques do. I can prop my arm on a pillow and just push the points while moving my head, or even just squeeze the scalene muscle at the side of my neck WHILE TURNING MY HEAD AND STRETCHING / SHEARING the muscles. Some times the bones will move while doing it, but usually I have to do your techniques three or more times, but then after I relax I can them get the subluxation to move off the nerve or when I turn my head to do something else it moves on it's own. I cannot thank you ENOUGH. GOD BLESS YOU!

P.S. I haven't quite figured out where to push to get the occipital area insertion points to stretch or the back of my neck muscles just below the skull to shear, but I just push and move my head,... however, the front ALWAYS HURTS because the weight of my head from losing the curve in my head is supported by my front neck muscles, so I have NEEDED this. I'm SURE it will help.
YOUR technique YOU SHOWED US helps arm pain and weakness... Pinning the muscle 3 inches in and down from the shoulder (the big muscle that moves the arm that connects shoulder to the ribs), THEN MOVE THE ARM AROUND in a circle, to shear & stretch that area! The relief is SO WORTH IT!

    • @ElishaCeleste

There's always *some* risk when working into the body (anywhere), and my best recommendation is to listen to your instincts and your body. If something feels off, don't do it. If that spot on your body says "NO" just move to another one. Bodies know how to protect themselves, but we're not always the best at "listening!" We can get really good at listening though, and that's what I love teaching most.

    This is excellent advice Elisha!
I think the sternomastoid is probably the muscle that has given me the most trouble to release over the years (though it's mostly better now), and I imagine almost everyone has lots of tension in this area with all the nuances of modern life, mostly from chairs couches and now phones... It's not immediately intuitive to target under the clavicle.
Your basic concept of pinning and then using motion has really evolved my own self care routines over the years, and I deeply appreciate your work!
There is however, one thing that I don't believe I've seen you mention, and I am curious if you've tried it (forgive me if I missed it, I don't watch most videos now that I'm no longer in pain).
Some five years ago I was watching an interview with another trainer/mobility master, Steve Maxwell, and when posed the question, "What is the most important practice in your daily routine?" his answer was DRY BRUSHING...
While this is mostly used as a lymph drainage practice, I have found it to be absolutely wonderful in combination with your mobility philosophy, in that the brush bristles reach deeper into the tissue and grasp the fascia much more effectively! Since the goal is to pin the fascia, the sharp texture of the brush really helps.
It's truly incredible how many pops and cracks I get from doing this (in a good way). For instance, when brushing my arms, I get loosening in my shoulder and chest, and vice versa.... The ability to grasp beneath the skin is just so much better than 99% of the mobility tools I've tried, and I've tried a lot.
I would love to hear your thoughts about this if you've tried it, and if not, I hope you will and see the magic it provides.
I think dry brushing is definitely one of the most useful practices I've ever come across and when combined with your wisdom I think it's a definite game changer!
It helps out on every inch of the body, literally head to toe, including on the face muscles and scalp. It's not the most obvious tool when people are in pain and looking for relief, so I think you'd be the perfect person to share this wisdom!
Let me know your thoughts, I could go deeper but I figure you get the gist..... It seems this could really make everything you're teaching even better, and I hope it helps!
    Cheers!

      @ElishaCeleste  3 года назад

Hey Matt, always great to hear from you. I LOVE dry brushing. I really should do a video on it. I think it's super cool how you've combined that with my techniques, and your results make a lot of sense.
So, the superficial fascia lives just under the skin and it houses the lymph system (the entire lymph system aside from the organs which process out that lymph waste for us). Under the superficial fascia is the deep fascia, which exists within and throughout our soft tissue (muscles). Under that there is fascia that wraps our bones.
My perspective on what you're experiencing, or said another way, the benefits to be had system-wide from combining dry brushing and my methods of fascia release, are that you're stimulating, releasing and maintaining healthy fascia in ALL of its layers. And probably encouraging the fascia within each different segment to talk to each other (because it is all connected).
I LOVE that you're in maintenance mode for keeping yourself pain-free, rather than managing pain 🙌🏽

    • @MattAngiono
      @MattAngiono 3 года назад

@@ElishaCeleste Thanks for the additional info! That is exactly what I am talking about, stimulating so many different layers, depending on the motion or pressure.
I also like using one of those acupuncture pads with the little spikes on it when I want to get even deeper, though this requires more careful movements.
A bit of a more gross observation, but definitely something I have noticed is this often results in passing gas lol... Is that because our lymph system is often holding gases?
Seems like there's a pretty strong correlation, so I wonder if that's the source more than the gut... Thoughts?
I LOVE what you are providing for people here, as so much of this is psychological and relates to trauma as well (as you recently discussed discerning between)!
Did you ever look into Dr. Alan Gordon's work?
I think I may have mentioned how immensely helpful it was in curing 99% of my pain in a previous comment...
I was part of a major study he did at CU Boulder, flying in every week to just talk through the pain I had, and it literally took only two sessions (though the study gave me 8).
I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you sometime, as it was so crucial in my healing and self awareness...
To think of how many people are suffering needlessly is just devastating to me, and I'd love to help.
I actually still have some of the recordings he gave me, which are like soothing meditations that get us in touch with our bodies...
I could email them to you if you want, though I don't really have his permission to share them publicly. Otherwise I would say to post them to your channel.
Maybe if you contacted him, he'd let you, since you're obviously dedicated to helping people.

This feels really good. My neck feels really tight at the front. I have a bulging disc between C6-C7, does this mean I need to be careful about how far I stretch my head back when I do it or is it not a problem? I obviously wouldn't want to make the bulge worse...

I can't offer specific medical advice here, since I don't know your body or injury history. So what I always tell people is to listen to your body. Go slowly. Explore gently. Let your body tell you what it likes vs what it doesn't like :)

I watched and did your other neck videos ages ago and sometimes do this one. I've been a bit tentative to do them since I am recovering from Chiari surgery still, but it always feels good. I just moved slow and didn't do as many rounds of it. Do you have any suggestions for fontanellis? I think I've got something going on there, right above my glasses arm slightly in front of my ears, and it might be triggering migraines. I can't figure out how to engage the muscle to use your general techniques so I've just been trying compression.

YES!!! That is awesome. Blood to the brain = SUPER IMPORTANT. It's not talked about enough either. I should talk about it more, because I think a lot of brain "pains" (even TBI injuries or MS) can get healed by getting more blood there.
