I was deaf for about 5 hours afterward, but it was worth it. 5 426 HEMI big block V8 engines cranked up to about 2500 horsepower a piece screaming in my ears.. Best B-day present EVER
Most engines are piggy backed' you then get 2 output shafts to the crossbox then to the gearbox , slipper clutches like crower & hayes are used ............
Each alcohol engine alone would be 90k times 4 plus maintenance and repairs through a season including diffs planetary setups tyres fuel, engine rebuilds, would be close to a mil to run one of these for a season. Plus transport also.
I wanna build one of these with three or four Dodge Viper V10s. Stroker cranks, bored out, twin turbos, running E85… should be a beast and sound like nothing else! lol
It’s all in the heads…. that’s why The HEMI engine will never be beaten - and thats also why you don’t see viper engines in top fuel dragsters… I would like to see some John Kaase Boss 429 HEMI based mountain motor engines in these machines though

Well I can answer this. Too much tread on the tires will cause the tractor to dig down and sink into the ground way more when the weight on the sled gets to the front. You have to find the happy medium
It's more about the fact that as the weight gets further down the track, there's a mechanism on the bottom that digs into the mud and drastically increases the force requires to move the sled

Most likely the jet engines powering a secondary turbine controlled by a wastegate. check out Jet-turbine powered cars like the 1968 howmet :) it's pretty cool stuff, when i have time and money i need to build one of these!

These engines are not running Nitro - you tell by the exhaust colour they run just straight methanol and I would say they are producing in the region of 3000 - 3500 horsepower each engine

The little wheels often don't handle the weight. The trick is to balance the machine so the front just glances off the ground, while the pressure in the big tires is equal so the little wheels aren't needed for steering.

I haven't been to those events in 10 years, but my body remembers the feeling even through the phone speakers. It is quite something! All of those shown are from the unlimited category. They end the night with those bad boys. It is WAY too loud to get to right from the get go. They usually start with much smaller rigs, to (ease) the way in. By the time that category comes in, your ears are already (numbed) a bit, yet it Still rings hella hard! I miss those man. Best place to stand while watching this, well there's 2 different way of thinking. At the start, where you can hear it revving from 0 to hero carefully to not kick out of the lane :D, or near the end, where its at 100% and the driver stabilized the course
But why are they weak sisters? My 110HP traction engine can easily pull that sled contraption all the way home. Do they identify as big strong tractors? they dont even run on water

Well I can answer this. Too much tread on the tires will cause the tractor to dig down and sink into the ground way more when the weight on the sled gets to the front. You have to find the happy medium
