Jocasta did not age because of the necklace of Harmonia. In fact that item could be the origin of not only Oedipus misery but of all tragedy that befall the house of Cadmus.Haphaestus cursed it .
Harmonia was the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares and Hephaestus avenge himself by giving that cursed necklace as a wedding present. The fact that it gives the wearer eternal youth caused many to sought it, willingly risking its curse. Harmonia and her husband were turned into snakes and the necklace create havoc wherever it went.
I was in the play "Antigone" and I can tell you Oedipus's family continues to suffer, it doesn't end well for any of them cause the gods only teach cruel lessons
What about Ismene? The poet Mimnermus states she was killed by one of the seven during the siege, but Sophocles has her alive after the events of the siege, since she shows up in _Antigone._ The gods cursed Laius for what he did to Chrysippus. It's seems unfair that his descendants had to continue to pay for his crime.
@@user-ot2nh8qb7d thats not true, the lesser gods themselves are cruel due to their ignorance but the demiurge is compassionate and childish and the One is ineffable

I hope you make a video (or rather a series) about the Seven against Thebes and the Epigoni. These two episodes are about two wars waged against Thebas which are consequences of this events and also Diomedes (yeah, the guy who injuried Ares in the Trojan War) has a big role on the second war.
Oedipus went to the oracle to get answers of his origins and the oracle with an intent to make him fulfill the prophecy instead tells him the prophecy. Very shady oracle lol. The oracle is to blame.
At last I found a video where everything clearly. It was so hard for me to found a accent which I could understand easily or explain the story well.😪 Thank you so much for the video 😊
The way you have said the story it's absolutely fantastic. When I heard it in the class from the mam that was a little boring, and hard to understand. But your video your speaking, the animation,it makes it the perfect way to understand the play❤
Wait… Does this mean if Oedipus had told his adoptive parents that he got this prophecy they could have told him that he was adopted??? And then he could have never came to that crossroad??
wow that's very beautiful history The Story of Oedipus (Complete) - Greek Mythology well so much sadly yup with 😮💨😢😭💔company with music classic but....well mm anyway ..i love your video my brother my father.
Similar to the king Darius story king of Persia he was left in the woods to die and a shepherd saved and raised him. And he became king and freed the jews and god called him a shepherd he was mentioned by Isaiah the prophet over 150 years before his birth.
15:05 if u insist that will be the only title u will carry in your life...The prophecy of Gods... May such phophecy doesn't exist in real life, how can God despise such a young man in his life.. Every one is God's own child
Thanks to this animated summary I have a great chance of passing my test
Exam stress. I feel for you. Hope u passed
For real
Me too😂
same bro, have a book seminary tomorrow on this story
lol me too
Perfectly embodies what Oogway said in Kung Fu Panda:
'One often meets their destiny on the path they take to avoid it.'

This definitely deserves more views, thank you for making this

That's why I'm here😂
THIS!
dang
Also, Meg was the daughter of Creon, the brother of Jocasta. She basically took Hercules to see a play about her own family.

I feel bad for Oedipus. He left his adoptive parents thinking he could escape the prophecy, but he unknowingly fulfilled it.
welcome to Greek fables.
It’s not real

It appears that all Gods or God, from any multi-theistic or monotheistic religions were cruel. Always bent on “teaching” some cruel lesson.

It's kinda sad that Oedipus didn't get to see his adoptive parents.
I know, right? They could’ve helped him.

After a long time.. i wanna hear this story again...have read about this a few years ago
thank you so much!💙
Nice animations dude
All this, as a punishment for Laius' misdeeds. If one reads his legend, this cruel punishment does follow up.
Sophocles made the story of Oedipus an immortal one by his excellent narrative style. Really it is one of the most tragic end.
Bro with that kind of prophecy I'd question any woman that I was about to marry 😂

What a nice daughter. Not abandoning her father

This story is the definition of dramatic irony, when the audience knows something that the characters don't.
Bro we read this in class and it made zero sense. I wish school would allow videos in class instead this helped me so much
A Complex story no doubt 😊
Here after Ted-ed's own vid about Oedipus & yours is better

Please bring this to your spanish channel along The Oresteia ❤

there cannot be a more tragic story than this weaved by fate

nah it's meant to happen even if he knew he was adopted
He would have somehow fulfilled the prophecy, you cannot run away from fate😂😂
poor oedipus this made me cry and the last time i cried was months ago
So according to my understanding Jocasta was Oedipus real mother isn't that right🤔?
Yes
