I lost a home to fire and it can be devastating. As you are trying to pick up the pieces you don't realize how important the little things can be. I remember people helped bring food, clothing, bedding, and linen. I also remember how my mother broke down in tears because she didn't even have a pen and paper to make a list of things we needed. I now have a box of little things like pens, paper, Ziploc bags, safety pins, laundry soap, and other little stuff that no one thinks about at times like this. I also keep a $250 Amazon gift card with it because the major retailers are all at least a 1 hour drive if not more so it helps to give the Amazon card because it is delivered and not something you have to drive 75 miles to reach.

I lost everything in the Tubbs Fire. It means everything in world to have this kind of support. Its so hard to have nothing but the clothes on your back and to lose pets. It will take her years to get back to normal and the $20,000 will help alot. The insurance takes forever and its hard to go through all of it when you have PTSD. You took the weight of world off of her shoulders.

My now deceased parents lost their home of over fifty years to a fire a few years back. They were both in their seventies at the time and they lost absolutely everything. I as their daughter was in the position of trying to help them start all over again from nothing. The community stepping up and helping them and helping me help them was a gift from God. Person after person and several of the churches were so generous. I personally know what a gift like the one Nate and Secret Santa just gave to this sweet lady means in a situation like this. I understand and I wish this lady healing and peace. Thank you for helping her Secret Santa.
Our family home burnt down a few decades ago..I just want the lady to know..things do get better in time and you have memories even if all your possessions are gone. I've seen this grief before, when I was a young boy, probably 60 years ago. It still sticks with me today. Our neighbor lost everything in a house fire. We didn't have much, but what we did have is our small communities support both emotionally and financially. Once you see this in real life it never leaves you. This crushed me. Me and my sons lost our home a few months ago. Lost nearly everything too, pets that were a part of my life since I was a teenager and we were homeless without home insurance but we didn’t get much support at all. We are in a rental now still struggling to replace our losses when we can hardly afford to eat with the high rent costs. This gives me hope good caring people are still out there. Even if we haven’t experienced this kind of care through our tragedy.

My brother's house burned down about 4 years ago and he got out in just his underwear. Our whole family was in a state of shock, it's like she said, you just never expect it to happen to your family. He had insurance but it took almost 3 years to rebuild due to red tape. Secret Santa is amazing and that money will help them a lot because the insurance companies try to delay paying out and you have to have proof of things you bought 10 or 20 years ago. Just insane. My house burned down in 12 minutes from an electrical fire. Thank God I was the only one home. I was only able to get the pets out. Its hard to lose your home. The pictures, and sentimental items are the hardest. My prayers are with her, and her family.
To loose everything in a fire would be tragic. Maybe if she lost something of her dads it could be made for her. Like a wooden jewelry box or a picture painted that she remembers he had. No it’s not the same but in our minds we have lots of memories that may be able to be custom made. When there is a loss like this, it's too common for people to tell the person, "Well, at least you both survived." However, it's much more complex than that. As she mentioned, she lost so many personal things that just can't be replaced, which is traumatizing. Even through all of that, she still thinks of others who have it worse. It's very touching to see loving people like her being blessed by Secret Santa. ❤🎄🌟🎄❤️

Carolina because I just watched a family of 6, go from living in a tent to donation's enough to buy a bit of land for their new home, given a 5th wheel, clothes a truck and over a hundred thousand dollars to get the family going again.. When I get frustrated or upset, I jump to reminding myself I'm living like a king compared to my ancestors hundreds and thousands of years ago. There should be national laws that require insurance companies to pay out benefits within a realistic and reasonable time!

When there is a loss like this, it's too common for people to tell the person, "Well, at least you both survived."
However, it's much more complex than that. As she mentioned, she lost so many personal things that just can't be replaced, which is traumatizing.
Even through all of that, she still thinks of others who have it worse. It's very touching to see loving people like her being blessed by Secret Santa.

For a woman who has lost everything material in her life to first think of the people in North Carolina who are worse off than she is and then to say the check is too much...just wow. She is so humble and caring! I pray the community walks alongside this family as they start over. You could see the lightening of the burden she has been carrying. It's weird she said N. Carolina because I just watched a family of 6, go from living in a tent to donation's enough to buy a bit of land for their new home, given a 5th wheel, clothes a truck and over a hundred thousand dollars to get the family going again.. It was awesome! Tear's of course.. I know how this woman feels because I lost everything in a house fire.. Good luck honey! It will get better.. 🤗

She's a treasure & she's there working for everyone & feeding the cats. She's such a beautiful person. So selfless & caring & managing to find a smile & a little laughter through the tears. I'm glad there are people like her in this world. I hope Secret Santa has given her enough to start over, even though it'll surely not replace the items that had very sentimental value or her beloved pets. Nate said it best when he said, "What's lost to her will come in waves," & that makes me feel so awful for her. She's just going to have to go through this, but it pains me that this happened to her 💔. I am amazed that she felt that the needs of the people in NC were greater than her own... omg, my wish for her is everything plenty & good. I love her "theyre worse off than me so I'll be okay in comparison" mentality. When I get frustrated or upset, I jump to reminding myself I'm living like a king compared to my ancestors hundreds and thousands of years ago. I try to remind myself I'd be lucky to have bugs and larvae in my fridge to eat without hunting, let alone GOOD food without bugs!! Lol.

My parents lost their wedding videotapes and a vinyl record collection in a house fire, and we lost an upright piano and most other belongings in a warehouse fire.

That was heartbreaking from the get-go! So glad she and her husband will have funds to help them through this horrible tragedy. And while I admire she still thinks of others that are worse off... by saying that to herself, she is trivializing her own loss, and a home you've lived in for 40 years, is a huge loss.
