  • In today's video we tackle a number of common issues on Jeep Grand Cherokee WJs (1999-2004). Specifically:
    Blinkers do not work or work intermittently (Blink relay replacement)
    Tail lights do not work or work intermittently (Tail light socket replacement)
    Heated Seats have failed (Heated Seat Switch Replacement)
    We also bang around the yard looking at interesting stuff

    I have fixed that blinker relay by removing the outer cover and resoldering the left-most pin. I resoldered all of them for good measure but the left-most pin was the culprit.

    Not surprisingly, I've had all three of those issues occur in at least one of the WJs.
    It took me a few minutes to remember how the issue came up with the blinker relay. It was my daughter's daily driver, and she told me that a couple of times her turn signal wasn't working (she actually pays attention to that stuff!) I tried the turn signals in the driveway and they were fine, took her WJ for a short drive and they were fine, finally decided to daily it myself for a few days (had to trade her another WJ, she wasn't down for the minivan 🤮). Day 4 the turn signals quit working, but intermittently. Whenever they quit, a little slap under the dash just to the left of the steering column and they would start working again. Long story short, after looking up the price of a replacement relay online I headed to the junkyard and for a grand total of 9.99 plus tax we're all good.

    The 3.5 came from the 300m from early 2000’s...decent engine but infamous for spinning bearings...at least from my experience lol just bought my first jeep last week and it’s a wj...i can’t remember how I discovered the 4.0 is nearly bulletproof but I’ve known for years so I searched high and low for one...I love it and thanks to your videos I was able to tackle ball joints, tie rods and track bar so far! Shocks are next along with “tightening” the steering a bit more lol also thanks to you I know soooo much more! I know what kind of 4x4 i have, what to look out for while shopping and how to keep it running!

    Walking around the yard after a snowstorm is one of the most dangerous things one can do haha. Last time I did that I slipped and pinned my knee underneath me so bad that I had to crawl into a vehicle and wait for my knee to stop throbbing lol good times.

      @wildbill23c 3 года назад +1

      A couple years ago we had about 2 feet of snow, decided that a buddy and i would hit up the yard for a few parts. Horrible idea, it was like a huge ice skating ring. Was half way down a row of cars, slipped and tried to catch myself on the bumper of a pickup dumb idea cut the hell out of my hand and pretty much ended my yard search that day. After that, anytime I have to go to a pick a part yard in the winter I bring my Yaktrax boot chains with me, no slipping and sliding at all with them.

      @@T0tenkampf My 72 F250 has a 392. If I recall my 88 F250 was the first year for the 460 to have fuel injection. Plenty of power, just doesn't pass many gas stations...even the new HD's don't get any better fuel economy with 7 more gears LOL.

    • @T0tenkampf
      @T0tenkampf 2 года назад +1

      @@wildbill23c I have a 72 Grand Torino and Ranchero GT and a 73 Ranchero GT...all the 351C-4V of that era came with the large bell housing C6 trans so they could also use the 429/460. The police interceptor 460 is supposed to be really cool. Yeah I hear its really a gas guzzler but can make big power cheaply and loads of torque. Trying to talk my buddy out of his 460 F250HD excab which was the rare one built for only a year or 2 right before the SD came out. Its really nice but only 2WD...still would be fun to restore.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 года назад

      @@T0tenkampf Good luck getting that F250HD LOL. Would definitely be a cool restore. I can't remember what year my mom's Grand Torino was, it was her first car, my dad I guess talked her into selling it, things kind of went downhill from there....he sold it and used the money for drugs and alcohol. Too bad that car isn't here now...with gas prices couldn't afford to drive it though for fun HAHA!!! My 88 F250 has the C6 in it as well. Apparently a great transmission, hasn't given up yet with all the towing I've done with it...I have the transmission fluid/filter changed every 35,000-40,000 miles, and keep up with the 3,000 mile oil/filter change, and make sure stuff gets fixed ASAP on it rather than waiting till the simple stuff becomes a bigger problem. Does need a paint job though LOL....paint is getting pretty thin on the hood and cab roof. Still runs and drives great though for being 34 years old.

    I hated those stupid light sockets! They gave me so many problems(tickets too) over the years on my '04 WJ including causing a short or something which fried the light control module/computer? I had that replaced and bought me some cool aftermarket lights (VIP MOTO Z infinity black) taillights which use simple plug in play method. It has LEDS also but I haven't connected those. It really updates the look of the truck to 2021 without looking too tacky or gaudy (and I'm picky). Gonna get the new headlight housings next. Cool video!

    something else to check on the WJ taillight if your light still does not work is that they warp from the heat and you may have to bend up the metal connector so that they make contact again....on my WJ that did not work either....what ended up being the case for me is that the light socket itself (the piece that holds the bulb) was actually broken although it appeared to be perfect....you could actually pull it apart into three pieces....I just used a soldering iron to plastic weld it back together and it worked

    2 door XJ, but cut the back off to make a Comanche instead of paying the premium for a real comanche

    Is the U-Pull $5 for the entry? Or is the $5 per part u pick? (I go to College upstate NY and there’s a U Pull 1/2 hour from me and I own an 02 WJ. Would it be worth it to take the trip?

      it’s worth it. mine charges $2, but i’m in new mexico so idk how much they charge for entry up in NY. each part has a different price, like small parts are around $5 and something like a whole axle is around $100. good prices and a good experience

    I’ve got heated seats, but neither work properly, the driver side feels like you spilled a boiling hot coffee down your left leg and the right side is ice cold.
