Unironically a top 10 episode of all time. It just gets better and better with rewatches. It's what happen when you take soul out of art and the power music has, not just in Doctor Who or media on the whole, but in all of our lives. What a beautiful episode.

The Maestro is played by Hera Hoffer, better known in showbiz as Jinkx Monsoon. They are such a talent. If you ever get a chance to see them in one of their stage productions or during her Christmas tour with Ben DelaCreme, or on Broadway, please do! She's camp and funny and can sing! Amazing talent.

One of the better reactors I've ever seen. Really good watch.

Its been pointed out that after the Toy Maker was defeated, his "realm" persisted long enough for the Tardis to be split as a "prize". So after Maestro, music persisted in hearts. So the musical number is a "side effect" ...totally not an excuse for a musical number, no not at all .... snort.

Love your take on this episode! Love how invested you are in the plot (or lack there of as you say). The best takeaway I’ve seen so far!

    Great reaction!
We’ve never had a ‘musical’ episode (outside of BFA), but in the 1st Doctor’s era there was an entire serial where a narrative song was exceptionally overused: The Gunfighters would have you begging for the Maestro to come to remove ‘The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon’ from the world!
Your energy is infectious - subbed immediately 💜💜➕🌈🟦

Rings of Akhaten is an episode centered around music, especially The Long Song... And that one song is so central to the story that it actually comes back in Matt Smith's regeneration.

im enjoying that when each of the pantheon so far is banished their domain lingers abit, so you got the double tardis from the domain of play and you get the musical with the banishment of maestro and the world being musical

2:39 small correction: The Dog Song IS iconic and objectively The Beatles’ best hit. They tried and tried but never managed to hit peaks as high as The Dog Song again.

You've only been doing this just over a week and you have nailed it, such an engaging person to watch. I love a reactor who explains what's happening and explores it. Any plans to do the older episodes?

Would love to, but I have already seen the rest of New Who, so I'm not sure if people would be interested in watching a rewatch. Maybe!

Just found your channel with this... what a delightful discovery.
The pandemic turned me into an avid reaction watcher and I instantly see that you're doing the things that make for a really enjoyable reactor for me (responsive, enthusiastic, readily speculates and shares what you're intuiting, presents as very open and warm).
Thank you for sharing this reaction.
    Liked, shared and subscribed!
Looking forward to see where you take your channel.

Huge thank you for this comment, it means a lot. I've also loved watching reaction videos for a long time, and it's given me very strong opinions on what I think does and doesn't make a good video.

Great to meet someone similarly enthusiastic about music, the soundtrack and Dr. Who - also the first one (in a reaction) to recognize Murray Gold (my second favorite composer of all time). Great reaction!!
Since this episode is about music and you seem to be someone to ask this question, what are your favorite compositions in New Who? For me it's probably "The Shepherd's Boy", "This is Gallifrey", "Doomsday", "I am The Doctor", "A Good Man", "All the Strange, Strange Creatures" and "The Dream of a Normal Death" and definitely some, I can't remember right now. But "Fifteen" and "The Life of Sunday" are closing in... maybe only because I'm so exited to have Murray Gold back... ;)

Mate, you're speaking my language. That's a huge question, there are soooo many. Love your picks. Some others that come to mind as all-timers are "The Greatest Story Never Told", "The Majestic Tale", and I fricking adore Martha's theme.

Apparently the final chord is the final chord from the BeatLes hit A Day In The Life, although shifted to C Major instead of C Major, possibly to avoid copyright?

I feel like you’re along the right lines when you mention what you think and believe are very important in this season. I think that this season is going to be super conceptual in terms of dealing with beings that are meta or beyond the main physical reality.
Something where their (and perhaps the doctor’s) abilities actually transcend the reality they live in and that, rather than the base regeneration part is why the old shobogans stole from the doctor’s physiology to enhance their own. I think if a character breaks the 4th wall, they’re a member of the pantheon or descended or associated with one.
There could be one like “Narrative/Story” (better name likely) who is already there and is the reason things are going this way so far. It’s why things are so weird and there are coincidences and deus ex machina. I think it’ll be revealed in a really conceptual and cool meta way with these eldritch beings. It’s not “bad writing” to make it seem so campy or whatnot - it’s that way on purpose for a purpose. My own thoughts.
    I really enjoyed your reaction.

Each Pantheon member seems to have set rules. Challenges must be fair play. Upon winning you get a prize that is universe bending. The second Tardis with Toymaker(Getting a toy) and a Musical Number with Maestro.
Fun to see what each new God applies.

Its not really a new ability of the sonic - we've seen this kind of use before in another music-heavy episode (Rings of Akhaten).

hang on one gosh darn moment, the Devil's Chord summons the ultimate evil right? A being so vile and disgusting. And RTD used to to summon the Maestro, a trans person.
Ooph RTD, thats some bad optics.
