      This is kinda rude, St. Louis had a loss in population but at the moment we are better than ever. We are building skyscrapers and huge project like the Greenway, Ballpark Village V.2, 100 above the park and numerous other things are shaping us.

      @@KM-qc6fn I sure hope y’all make it. I’d love to see those beautiful old homes restored and the city revitalized. I’ve never been there, but I enjoy watching vids on STL. People pay ridiculous prices for new houses built like cracker boxes in my part of the country, Nevada, and California is ridiculous. Since so many people work from home now, they could move there and have a lovely mansion restored for less. Just a thought. All of that unpainted woodwork looks like a real home.

    Founded by French as a fur trading post in the 1700's, I've lost count of the times I've heard St, Louie referred to in westerns. It was a grand old city. Under horrible management the past forty years. Those people are criminals. They keep redoing the riverfront with no riverboats. Why the hell not put back a boat like the Admiral? Laclede's Landing faded. Too bad. Even in these photos St Louis had a sprawling growth. I loved STL and have lived away for at least forty years but people tell me I'm crazy to want to return. StL ended up the middle stepchild of the Midwest with Chicago sucking off it like a vortex.

    • @painkillerjones6232
      @painkillerjones6232 5 лет назад +9

      It was our own damn fault. Back in the day, we spurned the railroad for fear of competition to our riverboats. Pure idiocy. Chicago would otherwise be a mid sized town, and St. Louis would be the mid-western hub it was meant to be.

    • @CJColvin

      @@painkillerjones6232 Chicago was better geographically centered to become a great rail center , being right on the Great Lakes . STL would also have greatly benefited if it better developed its Rail system , but it would not have overshadowed Chicago !

Now that I lived in inland empire (east of Los Angeles and Sandiego) and there are nothing like my old St louis at all , desert, traffic, different kind of folks, etc, I missed St Louis and will come back after I finished my nursing school here. :-) , by the way, I will write a book on the old Vandeventer Place on N Grand ( Vetterrans hospital) . I guess there is no other place like home in this world. Life consists so much of change. But I've always cherished the small tastes of Europe in St. Louis. It was built on French culture. Memories of St. Louis does touch the heart. So many ppl of different countries have arrived within the last 2 decades. That's one thing I did love about it. I'm in Ohio now. There are some similarities of St. Louis in cities here, like Cincinnati. But not the same. Cherish your life experiences from that city. No other American city like it. I value my origin- 3448 St. Vincent.

      I grew up in St.Louis and have many fond memories of"the way we were" Now almost all the old gracious and beautiful brick neighborhoods have been desecrated,schools torn down,cheap and ugly butildings abound, and derelict and dangerous houses are ruining our city,just like many others I presume Shootings,robberies t,and crime rule,and it is not good to be out after dark ,even to go to church or shopping and especially if you are carrying cash. Forewarned is forearmed.

And the people who live in the Central West End in some of the most beautiful houses in the state or the country. And on and on. You can't group everything together oh, I know there's a lot of crime but some of it is blown out of proportion there are many nice neighborhoods in St Louis I should know I live here. I hope this doesn't sound too critical but you're probably one of those people who moved out to St Charles County are further and now think St Louis city is nothing but a complete ghetto
