Runs cool, even OC'd to 4.9 (I don't like to push my components to hard) with my Noctua cooler. That thing is so big it barely fits in my mid sized case. And I was looking at the 9900k for only $400 right now but considering the difference in games will take at least 3ish years to see (I mean, I doubt next gen launch titles are going to be using anywhere near 8 cores, 8 threads), I might just wait and upgrade to whatever is best for gaming a few years down the road. A year ago I was upgrading my 4th Gen Haswell i7 to a current i7... I debated between 8th Gen i7 which was 6 cores / 12 threads vs a 9th Gen i7 which was 8 cores / 8 threads... I use my PC for surfing the web and gaming... nothing else, so the only "push" I do on my PC is gaming, not workstation type stuff... every gaming benchmark I saw comparing the two showed the 8c/8t 9th Gen beating the 6c/12t 8th Gen i7, so I went ahead and got an i7 9700F... of course now I see the 10th Gen i7 come out with 8c/16t and it feels a bit bad, but it's not like I bought my 9th Gen a week ago or something... but, seeing these results... even with the hyperthreading, the 10th Gen i7 really isn't faster for gaming than the 9th Gen i7... so a video like this makes me feel good about my PC.
I have a i7 4770k...and won't upgrade until hyperthreading becomes less expensive. The excel test is key since I do more work than games...and fps is irrelevant as long as the game plays well...the extra 5 seconds doesn't matter. What about benchmarks with CAD or mathematical intensive apps like mathematica or spss or math cad in case I have to design warp drive?
What im asking myself is, whether hyperthreading/ double the threads will be needed for present and future gaming. My 9600k is running even at 80-100% with death stranding, causing stutter and no smooth experience anymore. Same goes for watch dogs and so on.

I said it was 57% faster, if you want to get technical it's 56.8% faster. Maybe it's easier to understand if we instead pretend the numbers are 100 and 150? Completing in 100 seconds would be 50% faster than 150 seconds.
Hello, which do you recommend me to buy, the 10700 or the 9700? the 9700 its cheaper, but i´m afraid that in some years it might be old for some things, dont know which to choose :/
I would go for the 9700k. Not worth to buy the 10700 over the 9700k if you are just gaming with it. And I guess the 9700k is much cheaper to buy rn. Even if you buy it as used you can get a very good deal. Also z390 is way cheaper than z490. In some years, even a 10700 would be "old" Thats normal with hardware, it's like you buy a new rig, max 6 months later they release a new CPU/GPU gen..
Modern Warfare, not many people know about this, but you have to go into advanced options in the game files and set the "Render worker count" to half the threads of your CPU. In which case 9700k would be 4, 10700k would be 8. The game engine receives a GPU report, but not a CPU report. The threads it utilizes are a default preset number.
Wouldn't surprise me at all. With a "console first" development pipeline in most multiplatform studios, they pretty much left the PC space to brute force the console ports, while the PS4/Xbox One were using tablet CPUs. Things should change drastically now that the consoles have real 8c/16t Ryzen CPUs. DICE is a studio that develops on PC first and ports down, so they utilize multithreaded CPUs fully.
That’s a good upgrade. Make sure you also get a good quality 240-280mm AIO for it as well as thermal paste, along with properly ventilated case. The chip is definitely colder than 9900K thanks to some die changes but still runs pretty warm nonetheless, especially when OC’d.
I'm building a new PC and looking at review videos. It seems like you can get the 10700 for a couple bucks more, Best Buy is selling it for $300. That's kind of my CPU price range, and being I mainly use my PC for youtube and gaming, the 10700 seems like the best choice for this price range. I'm using a i5 6500 atm, and have no interest in overclocking, and when I consider the minimal price difference, and the potential future proofing of the motherboard, the 10700 makes more sense, am I off base here? Any advice? I'm admittedly not very well versed in CPU relation to motherboards, or "socket gens" I guess you would call them. Since Intel changed their socket type with this, is that future proofing the mobo? Or will I have to buy a new one if I decide to upgrade with the next CPU iteration? I feel like
Endelig Gnist The 10700 non-K's performance is close enough to the stock 10700K's performance to justify the $90 discount (unless you're using something other than a Z490 board).
I upgraded to the 10700k/z490 asus strix from the 6700k/z170x, good times the 9th gen wasn't an option for me, as I want a newer motherboard hopefully have the same 1200 socket type with 11th gen cpu
Nearly one year later, nothing has changed. I'm trying to update my 4790K but it still isn't really worth it. But on the other hand I need more performance...
This has been the conventional wisdom for some time, productivity software benefits from HT and games don't. In fact where it isn't properly leveraged, HT can cause minor latency issues hence the gaming performance seen here.
Now i’m so happy with my 9700k!! In the future i will up upgade the new intel cpu ....but .....not 10 gen cpu and any 14nm +++++.. cpu next gen! More little fps on gaming???.....Oh come on....guys, i don’t stupid to pay more for that!! I’m waiting for the 10nm cpu intel!!! Now... intel... give me a big difference and i will pay more for you!!
I would just wait for availability and pricing to be resolved and then go for the 10700K. There are going to be more games like Battlefield V. I'd even take a slight average hit to performance, and go for a 10600K, and still have that smooth upgrade path to 11th gen.
why people still use 2 sticks of ram when in 9 out of 10 games u have 10-15 fps more when using 4 sticks ? you spend money on buying high end cpu's and gpu's to overclock and gain that extra 10-20 fps and performance for w/e applications you use and u use 2 sticks instead of 4 ? and the price of 2 sticks vs 4 sticks of ram isnt even that much its like 50$ if not the same. please correct me if im wrong , thanks .

At 3:53, it was said that the 10700k was 53% faster.
How if the numbers were 95 and 149 ?
I said it was 57% faster, if you want to get technical it's 56.8% faster. Maybe it's easier to understand if we instead pretend the numbers are 100 and 150? Completing in 100 seconds would be 50% faster than 150 seconds.
could you add I7 8700k (or i5 10600k). I am wondering how does it stacks with i7 9700k. Extra cores vs extra threads.
In some years, even a 10700 would be "old"
Thats normal with hardware, it's like you buy a new rig, max 6 months later they release a new CPU/GPU gen..
I went from i7 4790k to 10700k. I'm quite satisfied with the result.
What have you discovered bro?
I like how the only games where there was actual improvement are where the GPU isn't a bottleneck. We'll see the differences with 3080.
Modern Warfare, not many people know about this, but you have to go into advanced options in the game files and set the "Render worker count" to half the threads of your CPU. In which case 9700k would be 4, 10700k would be 8. The game engine receives a GPU report, but not a CPU report. The threads it utilizes are a default preset number.
fantastic vid, thanks! 👍
Hi jarrod could you show how to safely overclock the i7 10 gen
all i7 10700k can oc to 5ghz with 1.24v-1.28v
Most 10700k can oc 5.1ghz at 1.315v
few can oc to 5.2ghz with 1.35v
I realy like ur comparison, will u please provide comparison of i7 10700 vs i5 10600k and i5 10600
Cool video! Thinking about getting the 9700k, wish you would have added metro exodus to the games.
The 1% difference in Battlefield 5 shows a sign about hyperthreading. The rest of the games are not using it at all.
Thanks. Now I'm finally sure the i7-10700k will be the replacement for my dated i5-4460
That’s a good upgrade. Make sure you also get a good quality 240-280mm AIO for it as well as thermal paste, along with properly ventilated case. The chip is definitely colder than 9900K thanks to some die changes but still runs pretty warm nonetheless, especially when OC’d.
Hey Jarrod, we would appreciate if you could add Valorant or/and League of Legends in your benchmarks
Thanks for the vid
I play valorant but not league
I feel like
10700k is a great cpu, however at over £100 cheaper id opt for the 10600kf tbh. You wont see a 33% performance dip for the money
I would pick the i7 10700 non-K because I'm not into overclocking, plus its only $310 on Amazon.
The 'k' variant is clocked higher even at stock though.
Endelig Gnist The 10700 non-K's performance is close enough to the stock 10700K's performance to justify the $90 discount (unless you're using something other than a Z490 board).
@@user-sv3tx9gm6u To each his own, I suppose. I prefer to pay a little more for something that I expect to last me for a good few years.
I upgraded to the 10700k/z490 asus strix from the 6700k/z170x, good times
the 9th gen wasn't an option for me, as I want a newer motherboard hopefully have the same 1200 socket type with 11th gen cpu
Looks like Intel did a good job . Cant believe .
Nearly one year later, nothing has changed. I'm trying to update my 4790K but it still isn't really worth it. But on the other hand I need more performance...
I have a 4790k. Im at 1440p 75hz and it sits on 75fps in any game with 1080ti in ultra. If it drops off this ill upgrade the 4790k before the 1080ti

the difference is mainly the percentage of use of the processor 70% to 80% for the 9700k and 50% to 60% for the 10700k on bf5 and heats less
Would just like to point out that the fps benchmark on csgo by ulletical is extremely inconsistent from my experience.
Better save that extra 150$...btw current prices in US: 10700K: 350$, 9700K: 200$ !

This has been the conventional wisdom for some time, productivity software benefits from HT and games don't.
In fact where it isn't properly leveraged, HT can cause minor latency issues hence the gaming performance seen here.

so, im looking for a cpu for my 2070 super, and im debating between i7 9700k and i7 10700k what do u think i should go for
The video tells you if you are on small budget buy 9th gen i u have more money 10th gen they are literally same
10th gen is just a less expensive 9900k. Plus hyperthread
If you only game , 9700k. You only need HT if you use software that benefits from it. Games like cores and 8 core Intel is a beast.
I would just wait for availability and pricing to be resolved and then go for the 10700K. There are going to be more games like Battlefield V. I'd even take a slight average hit to performance, and go for a 10600K, and still have that smooth upgrade path to 11th gen.
why people still use 2 sticks of ram when in 9 out of 10 games u have 10-15 fps more when using 4 sticks ? you spend money on buying high end cpu's and gpu's to overclock and gain that extra 10-20 fps and performance for w/e applications you use and u use 2 sticks instead of 4 ? and the price of 2 sticks vs 4 sticks of ram isnt even that much its like 50$ if not the same. please correct me if im wrong , thanks .
lol, that's not true... 4 ram sticks don't do much for gaming... 2x8GB sticks at low CL rating @ 3000Mhz is better than overspending on 4 RAM sticks unless you're into productivity stuffs.
@@ishananaguru you are wrong friend. first of all 16 gb of ram is not enouht anymore. half the games i play use 14 gb +/- secont i see people buy gpus that are good for overclocking and spend 500+++ $ more just to have a good overclocker and gain 20 fps 2 vs 4 sticks of ram is 10 +/- fps more for the 4 sticks and u can get 3200 with 12 cas or 3600 with 16 cas from g.sklill with 200$ i have spend alot of time to learn about ram i still dont know shit but the few things i know are these that i mentioned if u dont want the small extra fps go guy a 2 stick of 32 gb ram but dont buy 16 anymore trust me unless like upgrading all the time
