Sometimes I Forget How Much I love Living in the Bush

  • After three years of living in the bush, I do sometimes forget how awesome it is to be able to do what I am doing. Living in the wilderness was once a dream for me and Its good to remember that I am still living that dream. I am grateful to be able to do what I do.
Welcome to Traplines and Inlines, this channel focuses on my dog and I on our remote Off the Grid Homestead in Northern Canada. I make videos on off grid homesteading and building, trapping, chickens, mechanical projects, and hunting and fishing.
I went offgrid and started building my cabin over two years ago, while I was still in highschool. Since then I have built many things at the homestead and have had the priviledge of learning many things along the way.
The homestead is designed to be relatively low maintenance and with extremely minimal expenses. All of my electricity comes from solar power, heat from woodstoves, and I haul all my water so I dont have any monthly costs associated with my homestead.
I love the lifestyle, especially because it gives me the absolute freedom to do whatever I please. I plan on continuing to tackle awesome projects and work at building and fixing many more things, and I cant wait to share them with you on the channel.
    Thanks for watching!

you must be living the perfect life tbh. I am a top uni grad but god damn...sometimes I wish I was just living out there, close to nature, no internet bullshit, using my hands and my tools, providing for myself and enjoying those quiet moments full of reflection. No rat race. I gotta give it to you, bud. You may have just worked that life shit out. All the best from across the word.

Same as myself, actually just achieved my Bacholers degree in Computer Networking this year. Kinda wishing I would have went into Forest management at a Rural college/University instead but hey ho I'll make it work. Even if I take a career in IT for a good few years, even in remote networking down the line, so i am still able to work in remote locations week to week and hopefully create enough wealth where I can buy a small farm cottage or something similar, somewhere rural later in life

My dad had the spirit of the bush in him. We would go deep into the mountains in Alberta with a Moto-ski and chase around after elk. Dad wouldn't shoot deer. He said they were too beautiful. He shot moose. We often were tasked as little kids with running the cutline and making noise to chase the game out onto his parallel cut line. It worked well. He knew his way around in the bush naturally. He never got lost. I too love the bush but life and decisions took other turns for me. My girls used to go deep into the nature preserve in Connecticut that backed our property. They would see deer herds and would also see coyote groups chasing the herd through the swamps. I am glad you have that camp. Never ever let it go. It is indeed sanity! Thanks for the video.

I can definitely relate where you're coming from about being in the bush. I spent 16 years working with the forest service working in the Lincoln Woods Wilderness Area and patrolling all the way from Hanover to Franconia in New Hampshire on the Appalachian Trail and would stay out for 2 weeks at a time normally. a little over 2 years back I bought a 20 acre piece of forest land surrounded by Timber company land and State Forest where I can walk or take the four-wheeler for damn near 20 miles on the mountain without even hitting a road. there's only four houses on this road before the power stop and the road shuts down for the winter just after my neighbor's house 1200 ft away, then the next neighbor after that is 6 Mi away. I may not be in the bush but it's damn near as close to Heaven as you can get for Vermont. I call it the high Mountain Home Stead since I sit in a saddle a couple hundred feet below the highest mountain in the area. I still fuss around in the woods all the time but I'm 72 and putting up a 26x30 ft garage at the moment by myself so I ain't out hunting as much as I want to be. and damn it, bow season open today but I got to get my garage closed in yet so no time for for fooling around , winter is coming real soon Mister and I better get cracking if I'm going to get shit done before snow flies.

You can do it….just take baby steps ..i was interested in this 5 years ago and started with just hiking ..then it progressed to over landing with my rig…then thought of land …and finally bought something and have stepped up my rig with a rooftop tent and diesel heater, fridge and much more…my point is its doable. I wouldn’t think i would be where im at if somebody said back than “you will own your piece of land and have a nice over land rig in five years” … now granted im a weekend warrior but progress is being made. Don’t give up and follow your dreams… you can do it, just remember baby steps. Good luck my brother/sister. I wish you all the best !

Both canoes still in good shape, only use them a few times each summer but they have never let me down. We had 2 quads sold one and got an Argo with tracks. Game changer it is a little work horse and so great in the snow as well plus you can go in the water without getting swamped. I would highly recommend if you are in the bush the 6 wheel Argo is the way yo go.

You might be able to lighten your transport work by having a local bush pilot drop smaller loads into camp from the air. Maybe look into that? It will cost you a service fee but possibly no more than you'd spend on gas & time driving in & out of camp yourself. (Try sliding the dresser drawers under your bed or sofa, to make your room look neater? And, smoked pike is delicious too - a lot of fine bones but, yes, it's good! :)

Good day I am a retired 65 year old Man and have a registered trapline in Manitoba. It's very nice to see a young man like you who has the passion of the bush like myself and it's a lifetime adventure you are going to have. Enjoy it trapping is a way of life not the killing of animals but being one with nature. A great way to be out there is pick up your chainsaw and start carving I developed to be a fairly good chainsaw carver and let me tell you there is more money in carving the fur bearing animals than trapping them which is a sad state of affairs. Enjoy the moment it goes by faster than you think.

Just remember, while that poplar may burn nice and hot, it burns up quickly, all soft woods do, while hardwoods burn a bit cooler and last much longer, so...at least you can load that stove of yours and get threw the night without sweating to death and then waking up freezing because the fire burnt out! 👍 rock 🍁 maple is a nice hard wood that burns good

Also wondering if you will trap this year and also process some Beaver. What about a Moose or a dear? You could have a freezer solar powered and use the cold weather to keep it all frozen in the winter. Just a thought.
