Bushcamp - New Fridge for the Offgrid Cabin, Working on Cabin Decorations and Such

  • I found a mini fridge to use in the offgrid cabin. It will work great to refrigerated goods, but I will have to wait for some improvements in the power supply to be able to power the fridge. We also worked on some cabin decorations, including some fur I had previously tanned and a euro mount for my mule deer from 2 years ago.
Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

You are way ahead of most young men your age. I got kick out of your political comments. It's clear you have figured out how to live a meaningful life not a slave life like most. I'm 73 and have seen it in all in the crazy u.s. I like your book choices. It's impressive.

I built a similar cabin North of Prince Albert. I took a fridge and water pump etc out of an old travel trailer being scrapped. The fridge works great on propane and or 12V. On propane I can leave it for weeks and it runs tip top. Just thoughts.

I do like his collection of Tolkien and Harry Potter books too. Not sure what else was on the desk originally, but still love HP or now the fan-fics; some are so much better written than Rowlings. The Silmarillion is one book that seem essential and not sure he has it. The depth of history that Tolkien goes into is incredible.
Those and a few other series, I've read multiple times. Reading is a great hobby and even helps with better understanding the English language, that I never learned at school decades ago. I spent weeks when the internet came along to be better able to understand grammar. It is a brilliant useful tool, if put to the right use.

I've had a good taste of living rough and working remotely in Aus, in my younger days, and long to get back to somewhere like that. Praying to the lotto gods at this stage, to first find someone that can fix me, then buy up a few square miles of country to live off the land.
Never stop dreaming, for then hope dies.

Might think about raising up your table, or just building a tall countertop for your sink and just install the Frig under the counter instead of back in the corner. Didn't I see some of the 1x12 boards left over outside? Would be deadly for a big ass counter top :-D

Did you get the fridge running since last month? A lot of refrigerators and freezers draw more power when they first fire up while they're cooling down, so they may temporarily overwhelm a small solar setup, but once they're maintaining temperature, they can run on a smaller array again. It's possible you have "enough" in panel capacity, and just need more battery storage to bridge that gap.

A suggestion on the refrigerator... why not build a counter top in the corner where you have in on the floor and sit it on top of it? You will have storage space under it... and it will be raised to be easier to see and get into! On your furs... looks like you did OK with the Orange Bottle. Let me know how the breaking goes. Definitely helps to thin the hides on the thicker furs like fishers but l think you did a dandy job!
