      Data shows that people who graduate from university earn *far* more money in their lives than those who don't. For some people, it makes economic sense to take out student loans, if they have the right motivation and a career track where the college degree is significant.

      @@andrii3810 I used a credit card for years when things were tight, once when I couldn't pay at month's end- gas boiler for heating/hot water Feb 77. Couldn't take cheapest estimates, they needed cash or cheques. Mar-June 77 = hard times. Since then, I've gently negotiated with suppliers, workers about methods of payment. • @trinsit
      @trinsit 4 года назад +3

      @@andrii3810 Another reason why credit cards is because they offer purchase protection for everything you buy whether the product has a warranty or not. Also, the ideal way to use them is to not leave any balance on them. If you have the money on the debit card, Perfect! Use the credit card and as soon as it shows up on the card, pay it off. You'll accrue points for bonuses, purchase protection, and never have to pay any extra interest, And your credit will stay up. So long as you only use it for normal things you were going to buy normally.

    • @attilabubby
      @attilabubby 4 года назад +2

      @@trinsit Yeah it seems like people are taking what he's saying way too literally. When he talks about debt, people think he's saying never take on any kind of debt... Which is just silly. If you are on top of your bills, and don't let a charge sit for months, there is no way for you to gradually dig yourself into debt. Similarly, what he's doing is not for everyone, so for them taking on some debt might be a preferable idea, provided that debt can eventually pay off (college education, business loan, etc).
      Traplines is smart, and I'm sure regardless of where he ended up- off the grid or on it- he would be okay. He even states that he's never let himself get hit with an interest payment on a credit card, and that's a talent not many people have these days.

    I'm from the opposite side of the world, and the mindset here is so different. Just hearing that the first thing you wanted to do after school was put on the big boy pants, get a living arrangement, job, skills, and actually choose what is best and right for you, it's truly amazing for me to hear.
    We are not taught anything like it, if anything we are deeply discouraged from it.
    According to my country mentality and standards I'm doing perfectly fine, if not a bit successful and ahead. However I'm nowhere close where you are and soon I'll be 30. I'm really far from getting my own actual place, having a lifestyle I'd choose, having time for myself, to read, to learn, to relax and to actually live a little and stop putting myself on such stressful environments.
    I congratulate you and applaud your wisdom and humbleness. I wish you the best of luck!

    • @charlesb2943
      @charlesb2943 4 года назад

      Technically a vehicle is an asset because it has value as you can sell it for cash. All accounting guidelines (GAAP or IFRS) require a vehicle be categorized on a balance sheet under assets. Yes, a vehicle has expenses associated with it but those go on the income statement and are never put on a balance sheet as a liability as that is wrong. An investment would imply either market value is increasing or there is a cash flow generated. But I do understand why people would refer to a vehicle as a liability, just saying it isn't technically accurate.

      I can thank YT for educating me on being debt free and living below my means. At 30 I bought my first house ($83k), a foreclosure that needed minimal work. My homes value has increased by 130%, and I will have financed it for 20 years vs 30. My monthly mortgage is $379.29 for 2025 sf, 4 beds and 3 baths. Now I dream of tiny off grid living and I already have 1 acre of property in North Georgia where I plan to build something in the next 2 years (currently saving too). The question is weather to sell my investment of use it as income ($1750.00 rental value). Rental will give me a long source of income (minus tax, insurance, maintenance), I would say to pocket $1200 monthly. I basically saved through college to put down 20% and have $10k to improve my home. I can say it was a very smart decision because walking into my home was an instant $125k savings account, no PMI either! Those savings tactics were taught in school (Private education), YT has taught me so much more...lol! I can turn $30 of seed and fertilizer into 6 months worth of groceries, why is public assistance for a family of 4 neatly $600 in the U.S? Community gardening, patio planting, gleaning, food donations, no waste, clean eating, habitat for humanity can teach us building and sustainable living too! So many options for people to be self sufficient, live below their means, live independent and debt free, the need for assistance can be reduced just through education. I think this route can be quiet AMAZING! Add programs similar to education courses, or get involved with community. Our Health Department has added raised beds outside of their building in a locked garden area, beds are rentable for the season. They provide soil and education, it promotes healthy eating in the inner city.

I eventually built myself a Cabin, off grid (Before it was Cool to do). I saved my money and eventually build a Cottage, 25x30. I setup some solar, had a water system installed. Still shitting in the woods but was still debt free and credit card free at the age of 20. I'm 35 now and virtually retired. I have money saved and invested. I have a small business, building and landscaping. Most of the Modern Luxury is brought to my Home now. I have internet now, wireless. I have a Substantial Solar Sysytem which can handle everything I need. I rent out my old original cabin that sits up the river from my Cottage. It's good to see more people doing this nowadays. @@sevantookmanian I feel you, man, I've worked 16 hours a day seven days a week on summer break and made a large amount of cash, but now I'm in high-school and since I spend about 10 hours a day on school-related things I rarely ever make money. I'm just 15 and almost everyone tells me that I'm still young so I don't have to get so ahead, but truly, when if not now? Now I don't have to pay rent, I don't have to pay for my food and I still have two years until I have to move out, so I'm prepared to work so hard that I'll achieve my goal of getting a mortgage at 18 or max 19 when I get out of high-school. I hope you get as far ahead as you possibly can man! Much love, -Dan

Good to look at what you are saving as well because if you ever want to do something else you can just look at this video and see why that would be really dumb.

Its going to cost me like 8000$ if I pay it over the lifetime of the loan a car that should have cost me 8000$ is going to cost me closer to 12000$. Tldr don't put your car in a ditch after hitting a dear with your paid off car.
