The Requiem Masses of Duruflé and Saint-Saëns are arguably the most sublime to ever come out of France, yet nowadays they unfortunately live under the shadow of Fauré.
Then, I'll listen to these, though I read somewhere than Saint-Saëns didn't like composing his mass, he did it only because his dying friend wanted him to.
@@lindildeev5721 That's not quite the case, as far as I know. Saint-Saëns was glad to compose a Requiem for his friend Albert Libon, but what he vehemently refused was the reward which Libon offered. (The only work of his own which I know Saint-Saëns REALLY hated was The Carnival of the Animals. 😛)
@@lindildeev5721 As for Duruflé, there are three versions: organ, reduced orchestra, full orchestra. I would suggest that the last one is the best, and I'm pretty sure it has been recorded with Bryn Terfel and Myung Whun Chung.
Indeed, very exceptional to my ears; I must listen in its entirety. Parsifal's final chorus, though technically not a Requiem, might as well be. Forget the text. The music is the thing here.
not to diminish all other requiems and compositions and parts, but this particular LAST CHORD is something from the other world. i can't put it into words. pure orgasm.
Are you saved? 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. John 3:16-18 KJV - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. It might sound like this but definitely not look like this. Pun intended. I think it's time to redefine the puzzling notations into direct notations which doesn't waste many years of life.
It’s the organ stop called Voix Celeste which is tuned a tiny bit higher than the other stops. Then you get this “gliding” sound (don’t know the proper word in English) with two frequencies close to each other.

Thx
Who? Whose works?

Yes thanks Rick Wakeman
Singing the whole piece on Remembrance Sunday, it's brilliant

lucky baschid...I struggle second tenorly, octave jumpin' on the high notes...we're a dozen-Finn male, four-part
Every single time I sing this I close my eyes towards this moment. It’s one of the most special moments in all choral music x
My favourite requiem. Absolutely underrated
and a new one for me...will find the rest of it...strong choir in this clip!
One of my favourite pieces from the chapel choir I used to be in
Ive always thought so, too. Many years ago, i used to fall asleep listening to this☁️🕊️ Rest in Peace, Maurice 👑✝️🕊️♥️🎹
Truly sublime. What a special piece of music.
Sublime is the perfect word for me.
Jesus loves you ❤
The Requiem Masses of Duruflé and Saint-Saëns are arguably the most sublime to ever come out of France, yet nowadays they unfortunately live under the shadow of Fauré.
Yeah, it isn't right. The Duruflé is a much more profound Requiem, musically and religiously.
Then, I'll listen to these, though I read somewhere than Saint-Saëns didn't like composing his mass, he did it only because his dying friend wanted him to.

My favorite is Berlioz's
I saw this live with the Atlanta Symphony/Chorus a couple of years ago. Unreal. Incredible. Absolutely beautiful music.
Traditional mass settings are so beautiful
Love Durufle. One of my biggest inspirations for my composition work back in the day
Beautiful harmony- thanks for sharing that❤
Heavenly sounds.

This requiem is my favorite.
Have you looked at Schnittke’s choir concerto? That’s heaven to me. Some of Jonathan Harvey’s choral music too
And you 2 Warner.
Glorious, indeed!.
Shema!!!.
I listen to this requiem more than pretty much any other classical piece.
The last chord is F#9, not F#sus2 (it contains an A#). Other than that, thanks for introducing us to this beautiful song!
Yes, that’s right, thanks for letting me know. Not sure how I got to F#sus2 🤣 will update in description.
finally!!! durufle hive STAND UP
This is what I hear when I sniff out the smell of a pie on a windowsill and start floating in the air towards it gracefully
Thanks for the tip!
HEAVEN IS THE SOUND OF MY MOMMAS VOICE CALLING ME

That's nasty
One of two great French Requiem Masses, the other beeing the one by Fauré.
The choirs in heaven I cant wait.

' Heaven can wait '. 😊
Reminds me of the Faure Requiem, which is pretty good for a rock guy.
Also check out the music of Tournemire...just as celestial! Durufle is very influenced by Tournemire.
Possibly. I know it’s what my spa at the fairmont feels like.
I agree, wow
From opening notes ✅🙏🕊️
This makes me think of a piece from Star Wars ROTS or another John Williams Score
Quite correct. They do play organs in the Higher Realms of the Twelve Universes. They have inte-tones between the notes, too - very Seraphic ...
Durufle said of his own work- "The sauce is there but there's no beefsteak." ie, all style, no substance.
How about Beethovens’ ninth? If that didn’t come from the hand of god I don’t know what did. Or any Mozart work 😊
the faure has similar chord struction in its structure. If you are not familiar I highly recommend a listen.
Promise you...not even close.
My favorite Requiem.
Hmmm. I have never thought about what Heaven could sound like. I suppose it would be great if you could select what music you'd like to hear, though.
Heaven may sound something like Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats by Genesis .
106 bars. Not enough for heaven's eternity.
Woah 🙀
What about the Magnificat from Liszt's Dante Symphony or the finale of Gorecki's second?
The title doesnt do this justice.
❤
Gotta listen to some of Chesnokov/Tchaikovsky’s renditions of Eastern Orthodox Chants to find the best of the best in terms of beautiful music
Thank you for introducing great music! Do you have roman numeral analysis of this, in any chance?
Yes I do, please send me an email via the contact on the channel about page. Thank you for watching!
If you want us to listen, turn up the volume.
If RATM wasn't playing, I would be disappointed.
I have the TELARC version of this.
Nice tune, what’s it about ? Is it music for a chocolate advertisement 😎
In heaven, we will probably hear musical notes we've never heard before. And it will be far louder than anything heard on earth.
😮
Durufle. Knew how to write glory for sure, both for choirs and for the organ.
Can you imagine an existence where you have to listen to that 24/7 365 for all of eternity! God Almighty no thank you please ❗

This is more like classical music but not Christian.
Christian Chant was ACAPELLA, MONOPHON, NIT MIXED CHOIRS

It's highly unlikely that Latin would be the language of heaven; or, the only language in heaven.

of course, Latin it is, but you might get by with Ancient Greek or Aramaic 😊❤

I think Tchaikovsky’s Hymn of the Cherubim sounds more heavenly.
