some of debussy's best orchestral work
Debussy's 'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune', is a symphonic poem written in 1894 and was inspired by the poem of the same name by Stéphane Mallarmé. It's garnered international recognition as being one of, if not the first modernist orchestral piece of music. Debussy's innovative harmony, tonal ambiguity and rich orchestration evoke some of the most sensual musical scenes that have been written. This brief analysis highlights some of the devices that Debussy used to create this unforgettable atmosphere.

takashi yoshimatsu's greatest string writing
Просмотров 17 тыс.14 дней назад
Takashi Yoshimatsu's 'And Birds are Still...' is a great example of beautiful contemporary orchestration, and truly moving string writing. This brief analysis shows some of the parts at play in constructing a soundscape as evocative as this is. Describing “And Birds Are Still…,” the composer wrote, “it is a simple piece in the form of a short, piecemeal song that becomes a faint melody which th...
my favourite part of the rite of spring
Просмотров 6 тыс.21 день назад
Everyone knows Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. It has been solidified as a pinnacle part of twentieth century orchestral music because of its daringness, and innovativeness to musical aspects such as instrumentation, orchestration, rhythm, harmony and meter. However, 'Spring Rounds' is an episode which I find often overlooked when compared to the others. 'Spring Rounds' is hypnotic in its la...
lili boulanger is sublime

Lili Boulanger's 'D'un Matin de Printemps', although being one of the very last works she completed before her untimely death, is an absolutely stunning display of colourful instrumentation and orchestration. Written in 1918, her harmonic vocabulary is comparable to the great jazz artists that came later like John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Bill Evans. This is a brief analysis of one of my favou...
ravel at his best

Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloé'" a choreographic symphony, is widely considered to be one of the composer's masterpieces and a pinnacle of twentieth century orchestral music. Premiered in 1912, it had received an unenthusiastic reception but has gone on to be regarded as a masterpiece in orchestration and is now considered to be his magnum opus. This video gives a brief analysis of how Ravel constru...

'Melancholy' from Rautavaara's 'Cantus Arcticus', Concerto for Birds and Orchestra. It was published in 1972 and unconventionally, incorporates tape recordings of birdsong near the Arctic circle and in Finland. Harmonic Exercise for String Orchestra
Muy bien, que éste sea el primer video de muchos por venir. Saludos.
0:19 this sounds so much like Florent Schmitt…
This is the time where the art of music reached its height. 20th century also has some masterpieces but this was the high point of the tradition.
When that oboe comes in, simply breathtaking. A rushing torrent of diatonic and pandiatonic notes in the foreground, and stable harmonies in the background. Then the piano comes back and it’s just incredible.
really nice
a Synesthete who loses nothing in translation.
A dose of radiant beauty…
where did you find the piano arrangement? can’t find it online
Don’t call it a 2-5-1, it’s a ii-V-I
Thanks, this is my favorite piece EVER. Since the first time I listened to it, ten years ago and Im still listenning almost every single day finishing with tears, joy or the feeling of trascendence 🥺
Brilliant. ❤ Thank you.🙏🙏
Genuinely think this is some of Debussy's most sublime ideas. As great as his later stuff is, the Prelude is still among the best of his output (both theoretically and musically). It's famous for a reason!
I emailed him back in 2007, asking him how he generates his rhythms. He responded on his blog, yet in an unconvincing way. Probably due to language barrier…
Rachmaninov continuer.... Great
I prefer it with a little more pedal. Laredo’s version is best for me.
ravel a genius of orchestration
hell yeah
this is my favorite movement as well !! something that always made me really excited was that the trill melody @1:24 is in the augurs of spring movement ! it is just hidden in divisi violin 1s around reh. 29. thank you for making this video !
So much divisi….. I can’t do a mockup
ew, a woman composition
One of my absolute favourite composers. Thanks for this interesting analysis - never really noticed how he plays with chord spacings to create that unique sound.
thank you so much for introducing me to his music its absolutely magical I don't know how I didn't know him before!! this piece became one of my all time favourites of the "slow second movement" vibe. easily up there in the top of the list alongside with Mahler and Rachmaninoff.
Babytron and piano duet
Could you explain the Em13 chord, please?
C'est pour moi l'un des plus hauts sommets d'accomplissement. Merci infiniment pour le partage. ❤
Magnifique et toujours poétique...Merci infiniment. ❤
This became one of my two favourites Takashi Yoshimatsu's pieces after "memo flora"
Great!!!
2:57 those distorted horn blast and the overall grotesqueness…..that minuscule section is my favorite moment in the entire work haha.
Ive trusted your vids/taste of music as one of my casual musical inspirations while browing youtube, and this is yet another wonderful clip! thank you so so much for this!!!
can you give me Song name ? This is amazing 🫣
No it´s not. Ceremony of Carols - Benjamin Britten; 7. Interlude is better
It sounds realy beautiful. Ful of sense an delicacy.
I love it!
excelent!
sounds weird but I like it.
This work is a masterpiece. Not only it sums up Yoshimatsu's approach towards color, it also gives great depth on the composer distributing melodic lines with such grace. Always a joy to listen to this.
those harmonics mixed in the arpeggios are beautiful <3
Rautavaara and Scriabin are the best otherworldly composers!
Agreed, but I gotta vote Ravel in there too
Both inspired by mysticism/spirituality.
I always thought the line at 4:00 sounded like a la valse quote

oh I found wim's alternative account
My favorite 2 minutes from this piece! So glad you chose this excerpt to focus on.
yum
I see a video with Lili in the thumbnail, I click it
But not compliments on DeviantArt, apparently
Oh my gosh where did you find this score?
excelent !!
This has always been my favourite of his etudes.
Could you please share how you use that microtonal vst? I tried with musescore's xentuner and it doesnt work for me 😢 i tried many ways too but it doesnt work as well. I need help.
Sure! What version are you using? I've had to update mine several times over the last few days, but the playback should just recognise microtonal note input within the software, no other vsts needed. If that doesn't work though, you can always export the .wav file and fine tune using an external tuning vst in your daw. Hope that helps, let me know how you get on!
