@@Nedsonland Oh when I here "Metro" I think of my local commuter operator called "Metro" or "Metro Trains Melbourne" but our trains are very different to that and we don't even have third rail, whatever that is.

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) a closed rail system had a geometry car which analyzes the running rails for any indication of bumps, soft spots, uneven wear, rails too wide. I saw it once at one of the stations, and on a news segment "After Dark" when maintenance crews are making repairs during non service hours. It's not powered by the 3rd rail must have an engine and generator on board.

DC already has a third rail system. This train is used to test the existing infrastructure, ensuring that it works properly. There is no upgrade taking place.

Can u make the 7000 series trains 8 cars
Most are, in fact it’s easier to do 8 cars with a 7k series as the cars are a set of four abba where a has a cab and b does not so to make a6 car consist they must split one four car set and operate the train from a pop up panel on the b car. They however don’t have enough cars to run a good service with all 8 car trains

We already have those. They've been around with Metro since 2015. But if you do want to be technical, they've also done a test run with the 7000-Series trains back in 2014. I've seen the footage.
