I agree with you. I live in North Carolina, I also have dogs and cats. As we all know, mosquito bites also pass heartworm onto dogs. So as much as we may not like killing them, we have no choice. I also don't have mercy on fire ants. They are very vicious creatures. I'm striving to be vegan and believe in live and let live, but sometimes its not possible.
Wow, a super simple way to cut down on those wee blood suckers hanging out in my garden. They love to feast on me each morning when I am working in the garden. Cardboard box ✔️, black bucket✔️, linseed oil ✔️. Headings out to set my trap right now! Thanks for the tip!
We have ginormous flocks of mosquitoes every time we have warm weather. This will literally save my sanity. 😀Thank you so much, Jag! I love your videos. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Growing up in the country, we always added just a tiny bit of baby oil in outdoor water. I was told it would keep the mosquitoes from breeding in the water. Never found any sick or dying animals around the water.
Oxygen gets into aquarium water at the surface, typically by the rippling of the water surface which increases surface area. Air stones don't actually add oxygen to the water. They do however cause the surface to ripple which increases surface area. Putting an oil film on the surface will keep oxygen from being able to get into the water, hurting or killing the fish.
We don't have mosquitoes in Houston anymore. They say it is because the heat, but we had much worse droughts and still had mosquitoes. Even when we get a shower, still no mosquitoes. We are known for our horrible mosquito problem. Some people say it is a blessing. I say it may be the canary in the mine.
I don't know how you say Houston dont have them anymore 9 months ago. I live there 9 months ago, and they were biting. Much more now since we had alot of rain this year.
@@ahnguyen1 I live in the Hobby area. Not one mosquito all summer. I'm not the only one that noticed it. The city said it was because of dry weather. I call BS because we have always had mosquitoes, even in record droughts.
Containers with a little water and a funnel entrance traps them. The females go in and can’t find the exit. You can also use bacillus’ and it will kill the larva but won’t harm anything else.
Like Bob Ross would say, this was a happy little accident. Great video Jag, I love your content. I too don’t judge what people choose to eat or don’t. I think we can all agree something has to die in order for us to eat. Great stuff and sense of humor sir!!👍🏻
True, the hardest part of growing food when I bought the farm has been killing animals for me. You won't believe the amount of insects, rats, mouse, gophers etc you have to get rid of to grow food. Otherwise there is no food left for you.
Good discovery and thanks for sharing that tricks to keep mosquito at bay! Keep some guppies or mosquito_fish in your fish pond also do the tricks too!
Interesting. From S Africa. Mosquitos and flies, no mercy. My water tanks I add a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to the surfaces, but run an uphill battle against them all the time. I used oil in the tanks but they became mucky. Flies I cover fresh dog droppings with a self designed homemade fly trap which kills many. Other dog droppings are removed, incinerated/sterilised and dumped. It's fly and mosquito time here now and an absolute curse.
@@thequeenscorner6794 It wasn't a miracle cure but it didn't hurt either. It is a simple, unobtrusive method that you can set and forget without a problem. Try it.
Here in South Florida, mosquitoes central. I’ll definitely have to try this. I hope the oil is not toxic to garden plants and vegetable gardens because I need to do this in my water receptacle, rain catching barrel that I use the water my garden.
So, the question is, which rig is better? The yeast rig or the linseed oil rig? Also, using dish soap with fragrance might have a repellant effect. So, the yeast rig might be better with linseed oil or any neutral oil.
An open pool, hm, you can use oil, only issue would be birds trying to drink water or taking a bath, their wings would get covered in oil. If it is covered, you can use oil, I would guess about 4 table spoons or 60 ml will cover the surface with thin film if the area is 10x10ft. It depends on surface area, not the volume of water.
Hi Jag that’s very good in my house we are also vegetarian but if we have to get rid of mosquitoes cockroaches we have to get rid off them to you and your family enjoy your weekend bye.
I have been making something similar but use dawn dish detergent to break the surface tension so they drown. I may go to this, sometimes I put too much dawn in... 🙂
All of these oils are edible, you can use olive oil too, which is ok for animals, only concern would be birds and beneficial insects, that's why i recommended using a cardboard box
Your comments on killing mosquitoes reminds me of the scene in the film "Mosquito Coast" where Kevin Cosner splats a mosquito and says that's not the Mosquitoes blood, that's my blood.
Not to criticize, but that line in The Mosquito Coast was spoken by Harrison Ford. His acting was superb in that IMO, as well as many others (Helen Mirren, River Phoenix, Martha Plankton and more!). I love that film. And I despise a damn mosquito. I have at least two dozen itchy bites driving me to distraction as I write this IKYN 😫

Don't forget the water haha
That is great! Also maybe if you have a wire mesh to cover the oily water bucket so the birds won't play in it
Great idea.

Get a box fan and put a screen on it and just run it. Best trap out there

Awesome, I heard oil also does not let mosquito larva mature into mosquito
My understanding is when you put the oil in the water, it makes the surface slick and they drown because they can't fly away. ☺
Baby oil seems unwise. The fragrance might repel them. Use natural oil.
What kind? @@djbryson

This is a good idea, used by the Bombay (Mumbai) municipal corporation, many years ago!
Thank you for showing us this easy way.
Thanks for information any other common oils you can use. I saw another viewer say dawn. I have that.

you need to use vegetable oils
Veg oil works as an insect repellent on plants
Great ! thanks, one question, how does it affect other insects ? like bees ?
Brother...you rule. Awesome video and phenomenal information.
i bow to you..... you're amazing, been looking for something like this 10/10
🦟 mosquitoes LOVE me.🤬
this trap is so simple, that a *simpleton like me can make it!* 🤤 thank-u so much! 😘💨
Bhaji ur other part u added linseed oil what about ur other video with sugar , yeast and soap which one works better Acc to u
Incredible! Thank you for sharing, I hope your fish survived.
I’ll definitely be doing this. Thanks!

I have a intex pool would i do it in that? Can it be another oil? Its 3300 gallons so how much oil? I mainly use this pool as a back up water supply.

is it true mosquito like fruity scent? what kind of scent great to attract it?
Just started seeing your videos. keep it up!
Great video. Does olive or sunflower oil work too? Pretty hard to get the oils you listed in a regular store in Argentina
They don't have the menthol smell so it should work. Used motor oil is free if you change your oil at home.
Pretty genius. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Will do this right away!
Brilliant
Will it work on Bill Gates GMO mosquitoes?
They bites even if you are in the Sun.
Can I use any oil for this?
can i use cooking oil?
Nice find! Is there an oil that attracts the mosquitos? That would be the ultimate trap!
lo good one. next time it's beter idea to overfill the tank rather than changing the water
Wow, that's crazy.I have a old dog kennel I can put a black bucket in side and the birds and animals can't get in side,Thanks.
This needs to be on Mousetrap Mondays.
Nice! 👍
Hello sir.
Which method will be killing more mosquito this one or eletric shock trapper.?
This one is the best: ruclips.net/video/CuWOxE1-ag8/видео.html
how about mineral oil.
That's awesome, only draw back would be if it's harmful to other pets and animals.

I have been doing this for almost fifty years. Where have you been?
what kind of oil did you use?
Lol
Hi jag, how long do you keep the water with oil?
Is it okay,If i used BOILED or THICKENED types of linseed oil???raw linseed oil is a little bit pricey. 🥺
Do not use boiled linseed oil, it contains heavy metals and harmful chemicals. you can just use cooking vegetable oil or olive oil
@@DaisyCreekFarms okay thank you sir, what is the other oil that i can use to replace linseed oil but having the same effect sir??
Can you use any oil
Veggie or coconut
DAWN would do the same thing,

With all of the traps you build my expectations would be no more mosquito in your area. How is it you still trap some :D
Can you place the bucket trap indoors, or will it attract more mosquitoes from outside?
Wow! What a great happy accident! 😂
My fly strip catches more mosquitoes than flies!
Has anyone tried and can confirm this works?
Don’t want to rain on your parade. But I did not see All Those Mosquitoes Only a handful in view and some are probably flies , gnats etc
