  • About 70 percent of Indonesia's population lacks access to clean water. For many, safe sources are distant, contaminated or expensive and water safety is a major public health concern. The government is taking steps to improve water quality. This includes a pollution eradication programme of the Ciliwung river in Jakarta which is to be completed by the end of this year. The plan aims to widen the river as part of efforts at flood management and to ensure water security in the Indonesian capital. Indonesia is also building more dams in the country as a source of low-carbon hydroelectric power, contributing to the clean and renewable energy mix in Indonesia. The government has a target to build a total of 61 dams by 2025.

Went to Jakarta in 2019 and it was a complete shock,. Noise, smell, chaotic, traffic etc. You will also find a lot of annoying people and scammers, but once you return to your home country you realise you have changed and never see the world the same way. Indonesia changes you for the better!

    Hi,
I think there is a misunderstanding in the translation. The Interviewee of Bapak and Ibu said 'PAM' not 'PUMP'. It might sounds similar.but 'PAM' means Perusahaan Air Minum meaning State Owned Water Company.
    Thank you for the report.

@@buserroni or, I think more accurately, 'piped' water service/supply. Crazy how low the water network coverage is there. As the report alluded to, if there was 100% coverage it could slow Jakarta's drastic land subsidence. Of course, it would likely only happen if the politikus2 can make a buck from it.

13 rivers in Jakarta are very polluted. So Jakarta's clean water source is supplied from the Citarum River at Jatiluhur Dam, West Java, more than 100 km from Jakarta. And in next 5 years, Indonesian Government will build a clean water pipe from the Ciujung River at Karian Dam, Banten, 115 km away from Jakarta.
The best example of a renewable energy center is the Cirata Dam, West Java. There is the largest solar power plant in Southeast Asia.
In fact, the Sepaku Semoi Dam is being built as a source of clean water and electrical energy for the new capital city of Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

Contamination is a huge problem in Jakarta. I can not talk about other parts of the country, but contamination and risk of contamination is not only for water, but also for food as well. Anyone who has visited a pasar here would understand, that the cleanliness is in general.

I dont know hows relate jatigede dam with jakarta?
    Another cna bad reasearch
You should review jatiluhur dam in purwakarta 70km east Jakarta
Jatiluhur dam is relate, cause it is main source of 65% clean water in Jakarta and also produce 1.4 Gwatt energy (bigger than jatigede).
We already finnish build another big dam in karian serang for water supply in jakarta tangerang serang.
So we hope cna can be more reseach in next video.
