- Laidlaw's Harley-Davidson goes all-out on this 2017 Roadster Sportster Café Racer Build. Harley-Davidson Motor company recently released a set of parts and accessories that transform a stock Roadster (XL1200CX) into a full-blown Café Racer.

Wow! Our paint shop in Wisconsin are painting this 1/100 caffeine cafe racer set. I'm very proud and happy to see the final product of the bike because we don't usually get to see when the bikes are put together, we just paint. Just wow... to see that some made it to California means a lot to me and I'm very proud to be part of my shop. Thank you for this video, I will notify the shop asap tomorrow to check out this vid!!!! Thanks Matt your a beast for making this video. Really brings tears of joy to see the final product.

This machine is a credit to you and your team. Magnificent motorcycle with the boots to back it up. I'm 64 yo and have just ordered my first Harley Davidson. A new 2019 1200cc Sportster Roadster. It has to come from Milwaukee USA to Melbourne Australia. Can't wait ! Thanks for the post Matt.
Did you get it? How much do you love it? I picked up a 2018 Sportster 48 in October and I have been in love ever since and I have been around/fixing/riding bikes since I was 7 years old, I am now 33. This stuff brings out the child in me and I love it!
I'm too old with too many ailments to be comfortable on that bike but still l appreciate the appearance and the thought that the factory and delership executed in the design and build. Most of my riding was on the dirt until my early 40s. Now l'm 70 but at least l can still ride for short distances.

very nice. As a young man I used to drool over the XL cafe` racer when it came out. I could never figure out why HD didn't pursue it? In the 70's nothing (affordable) handled particularly well. They could have got in at the beginning. . . Strange how style has come full circle!

This caferacer look is the best looking around the custombuilts.... It's authentic and apart from anothers, especially the rear fender, oowwwhhhh.... drop my jaw. Honestly, I'd never imagine this great looking came from the manufacturer.....

I’m slowly leaving my BMW RR and boxer days behind me. An HD Sportster will be my first test of the product but I’m always surprised the bike isn’t just sold like this. I know it’s 2019 and I’m a little late to this show but I’m doing my homework. The mid mounted pegs made me feel like this was a seriously odd set up. Maybe an HD thing but I’m willing to adapt to a point. Really enjoying your whole channel and am the reason your stats have gone up...probably, thank you for such terrific content. More camera angels when riding is my only comment. What a wonderful shop. All the best from Sydney Australia and thanks for Making America great again!

There is something about Harley Davidson paint jobs that seperate them from every other motorcycle company out there. A lot of decals and whatnot, but not with Harley Davidson. Their paint jobs are just beautiful to look at close up!

Why do they not make a 6 speed transmission standard for the Sportster?
Because it doesn't need one? 1200cc, under square, low RPM, push rod engine.
It would be like fly by wire on a biplane. Wouldn't serve any purpose. That's my feeling about it. Your opinion may be different. I ride a 2019 Roadster. i just wish it had a bigger tank. It's a great back road bike that feels alive under me.
@@algentry1 Spot on. I purchased a used XL1200C tank (4.5 gal.) for the range and the more trad British Cafe style. Love my Roadster!

That is a wicked bike! I just boughta 2019 Roadster and was looking for some add-ons. Those clip-ons are EXACTLY what I'm looking for! Are the rear-sets just mounted to where the passenger pegs used to be or someplace different?

Wow looks great, but after looking at the specs on your site, I see that the seat height is too high for me with a bike that heavy. My inseam in 28" on my pants so a seat height of about 26" would be great, that is after I am sitting astride the saddle.
NICE BIKE THOUGH, I would loved to have something like that when I was in my twenties or thirties, but at seventy I have to be a bit more sedate. I love Harley Davidson Motorcycles, if for nothing else, their sound.

Matt what kind of Clip-On Handlebar Did you use? The ones I found at HD.com said 39ml but those does not fit on a 2019 HD roadster. Thank you
The clip on bars are genuine H-D They are specially designed to be used on the Roadster. These are the ones used in the video

I don’t know but I suppose you could call around to every dealer in the US and cross your fingers. I don’t think you’ll find anything though.

Well in 2017 HD are catching up with the modern world of modifying. There seems to be modification garages and shops popping up everywhere. Pity the price is so extraordinarily high to other suppliers.

Hey Matt is it possible to put a tachometer next to the speedometer on this bike? I'm a huge fan of the dual gauge system like on the 2005 Roadster.
James N Yea, the stock instrument displays both RPM and Speed though. You would have to change the cluster mounting bracket and kinda do a custom job. There is nothing bolt on, plug and play like this though.
I'm pretty sure Harley-Davidson does or did it one time offer some kind of aftermarket tachometer. I know Victory did for the octane which probably works on the scout. Hypothetically if I were going to get this new Roadster I probably would have some kind of custom dual gauge system of it.

Any room up front for the small bikini fairing that would really set this bike/build off as a Cafe Racer.
Looks fun, but it's a halfway bike. The performance isn't increased unless you improve the chassis geometry. Yes. the footpeg position is hugely improved if you fit rearsets, but with a long wheelbase, long swingarm at the back and lazy steering angle.
So, if you actually want to go fast in the twisties and have a Harley engine, a custom frame or secondhand Buell is the only answer.

Didn't know harley had these clip-ons. I used clip-ons from racing mopeds, these worked all right but those blacked out ones look a lot nicer of course.Btw what does this conversion cost approx?
The Clip-On's just barely came out. The build with all the accessories, paint, labor, and price of the bike comes out to be $19,500

Prometheus do it yourself and its even cheaper. Its all bolt on stuff (highly overpriced like most harley branded stuff)
IMO should have went with clubman bars.
Ive owned 2 sportsters over the years and loved them, Im interested in how much the handling changes with the new fork.
