All Hail Joan!
John Fletcher smashes it once more, unearthing every Egyptian Eskimo that has ever been vigorously conceived and birthed.
What a interesting study of a early civilization. To live and thrive in such a desolate environment must have been very difficult. The woven fabrics looked stunning. Thank you for sharing.
Marry me
@@MrGelly70 why thank you that’s so sweet 🥹
Such an interesting documentary. Thank you.
I am not a “professional” people don’t like to hear the word cannibal(ism). But it really isn’t that odd just less talked about. There are several cultural beliefs or practices or even religious traditions that practice eating after-birth or other forms of consumption. This actually was the first thought in my mind when the question was mentioned. I also think that grief was a huge process then. They didn’t have therapy or material possessions because living and staying alive was their primary focus so I think it is fair to say that they kept their mummies accessible as a part of therapy. Finally could the cuts in the bones and amount of fractures in the 18 year old be a form of autopsy? A form of self education? Or maybe violence due to lack of food and an attempt to eat all that could be found? Bone marrow (of animals) is still eaten as a form of staying well due to extreme situations. I really enjoy these videos. Please keep them coming.
It's definitely a major cultural taboo to say the word itself - but I wholeheartedly agree with you. Even in the modern day, cannibalism is still practiced, just in perhaps an emotionally "sanitized" way. And Honestly, I can see why these ancient people might believe that "taking in" their deceased loved ones back into their body would be an expression of love. After all, this was a time LONG before modern understanding of science, so I think it would absolutely would be a logical way for these ancient people to process the grief of loss.
Yet another example of stone-age humans that weren't nomads. The attachment to the dead is reminiscent to the presence of dolls in certain cultures. Dolls were likewise thought by the ancients to have souls.
Very interesting. Thank you!!!
Thank you I had not heard of this civilization
YES!!! Ive been waiting years for this
Apparently 23 years because I was just told this came out in 2000
Fascinating wonan
Joanne is very attractive here ❤
I wonder what year this is. Damn girl has been rocking for years.
I always find it the height of hubris that we assume a culture that didn’t have a written language were mentally less. This presentation makes it sound like these people were only good at mummifying their dead. That is only what survived the ages of decay.
There were two mummified fetuses found in King Tuts tomb.
They were is two girls
Yep and Dr Fletcher knows this so it kinda surprises me that the comment got by her lol
They were royals, of course they were mummified. Children of common folk weren't mummified in Egypt which is what makes these mummies special.
I do wonder if perhaps their development from a nomadic to a coastal population began revering the examples of preserved beauty they observed in much greater detail by remaining stationary as a group. Seeing the examples of the sea/coastal life which sustained them, the beauty of seashells, crustacean/ animal bones washed clean, gave them significance to spark mimicking the beauty they revered in nature. Since they viewed these as beautiful and sustained them, they sought to do the same for their own dead. Over time? 🤷🏼♀️ Just a random reverie while watching. 😊
Awww, Baby Joanne 😜
i think the driest desert on earth is in antarctica
Three fetuses were buried with King Tut, right? These may be the first, but not the only.
Interesting that the Chinchurro did not have pottery, but made clay masks for the dead. Of course, living in one of the most arid places on earth, they lacked access to the wood needed for kiln fired pottery.
Would have liked the doctor to give more input.
Seems like they could have talked about their finds a lot more.
What they keep forgetting to say in this vid is "It's of my opinion and teory" Instead of "They did this, becaus I think they...". There's a lot of opinions and teories passed around as if hard facts.
Too bad!
9thous. someone better tell that to a certain group of liars.....
Why else to cut all the flesh off?
The one with the fuzzy hair and glasses is definitely a mummy...and likely much older than it appears.
Oldest written mathematics =AMERICA
Oldest pyramids =AMERICA
Oldest mummies =AMERICA
America is the real OLD WORLD ✡
Yeah that's what they are with their eyes closed and their mouth wide open
Bet they ate the meat
I wonder if it would taste like beef jerky 🤤🤤
Maybe they ate their dead ?
Not to waste the meat
Why is it okay to remove mummies from Egyptian tombs...And elsewhere... It's no different than tomb robbers... Just because archaeologists say it's for science...
This started sticking with me when I was a kid. I was going to middle school in Brooklyn and they dug up an old graveyard in the area. They called it an archaeological dig but to me it was just messing with someone’s loved ones because it was only a couple hundred years old. Then I thought about the Egyptian mummies and realized only time made it “ok”.
They had to remove these mummies because some company wanted to build on that land. They would have been destroyed otherwise.
Dr. Fletcher, it is time to wear clothing with color. Your macabre wardrobe is quite depressing now.
Does anybody know what year this was filmed?
Seems like early 90s
It was filmed in 2000.
@@blanket_bunnie thank you sooo much. I wish they would put the years of filming in the descriptions. It's just crazy how fast time goes and thank you again for replying
