I've attended a lecture recital from a former classmate who lectured on Harpsichord music, this piece here by Royer is one of the masterworks for the Harpsichord or as was to the French, the clavecin, pushed the limits of the solo instrument...this room has accoustics which perfectly fit the needs this composer had in mind.

Travolgente! Che suono! Straordinario il clavicembalo di Mencoboni. Qualcosa di diverso, di mai sentito. Ecco: MAI SENTITO PRIMA NIENTE DI SIMILE (al clavicembalo). Grazie Marco

Assolutamente sbalorditivo, Royer e Mencoboni, un binomio sublime. Royer, tempestoso travolgente interprete di un'epoca al declino, siamo lontani dalle grazie salonesche di un Couperin e di un Sebald

Royer is fabulous ! Marche du Scythes is rightly famous as is this ! Now I must find his other musics the Ballet Heroique too is something but the keyboard music is intense ! Geese I can't believe his contemporaneity. What did others of his time say about him ?

Gorgeous Chinoise harpsichord. Ditto all below. His tempo and rests are dictated by the acoustics of the room. Had never heard this piece until today. I guess it is a consolation for our current Covid confinement. Breathtaking performance. Mile grazzi. Piano? ewww!

You are so right! At first I thought he was too slow, but then I realised if he played it slightly faster, the amount of reverb would have muddled everything.

The instrument is an imitation of an original found in Herculaneum.. note the roman embellishments! Kennedy is a known sideline archeologist! (just joking.. the fineness of the harpsicord amplified by the empty rooms of this mannerist (?) building that did not have the recorders shy from the echoes amazes...

yeah bruh. Classical music is actually sometimes more extreme than even the most cavernous offerings of death metal IMO. Compare Ligeti and Schnittke to Archgoat and Disma, and you'll find the former give absolutely no fucks about writing something that sounds even remotely accessible.

this sophisticated and energetic performance is spoiled a bit due to the emptiness of the room: it resonates too much. No crinoline dames, no furniture, no even paintings to soften the resonance.
I would put in the room few dozens of big plush toys (no joke intended) to make the recording perfect...
