This is why you ALWAYS use Uber or taxis in Tijuana. I never take my car to Mexico, you’re a target to extortionists and even Mexican police will stop you to take your money or impound your car. The police will stop you and say you ran a stop sign, or a red light or speeding which you never did any of those. You either cough up $50 to $100 dollars or your car is getting impounded and going to cost you $300-500 to get it out of the yard. Recording them won’t work, they’ll take your phone. I’m Mexican American, born in California, family from Mexico. I go to Tijuana a lot , and know the in and outs of it. Just trying to help you guys out.

If you go to Mexico on your own in a car or on a plane… I give people this advise. Dress MODESTLY.. don’t go wearing a bunch of brand named clothes. It’s gonna make you stand out too much. Also if someone asks you for directions, don’t answer. Many people who are trying to rob people ask tourists for directions. If you don’t know then they will know you’re most likely a tourist. Try and blend in, and if you are driving into Mexico. BRING an older car… like a 2002 Honda or something like that or a car that’s super modest and doesn’t stand out. Also try and stay in areas with heavy military presence. It’s better not to drive into Mexico with an American license plate though. Use public transport

Yeah because kids aren't getting shot up here all the time or cops killing unarmed civilians or using brutal force because of their soft egos & itchy trigger fingers. As soon as you say Trump was right you lose all credibility. A guy who claims Biden didn't send help for hurricane victims even though mayor said other wise. Or how about when he said he was building a wall & having Mexico pay which didnt happen. How about when he claimed Haitian immigrants are eating pets again government officials, police & citizens debunked that. Or maybe when he said covid can be cured by spraying disinfectant in your mouth or how he said covid wasnt serious & would be gone without a vaccine again didnt happen. Dont even get me started on his crimes both that hes already been convicted of & others he hasn't. You say Mexico is a hell hole yet there the politicians didn't claim rigged election & also the last & now president elect both praised each other unlike politicians here that rather trash any1 who doesnt share their views or that rather talk about some1's fake eyelashes than actual issues.

The road was empty only us i got so nerves and scared, i started praying to arcangel Michael for protection we didn't stop we run faster and got to check point where you pay to use the road. What a sad story, worse, because they only stole a phone. I'm sure they wanted to hijack the car? Don't drive with flashy cars, don't drive at night, don't drive with loud music. American cars will always be an opportunity to see what's in it. This is truly a tragic and sad. I go several times a year. I Love it and will continue to visit, maybe retire. I’ve never not once had an issue in over 30 years of doing so. There are certain things I would advise. Don’t drive at night. More because of poor infrastructure/potholes/speedbumps. Don’t have tinted windows. If you do roll them down around cops. They assume you’re hiding something or someone. Obey the traffic laws and blend in. Ironically enough it means don’t use your signals. But drive aggressive enough to move and not hold people behind you up and at the same time courteous to those around you. Blend in by not driving something that looks expensive. Don’t look expensive either. Keep the iPhone in your pocket or give the impression you think you’re better than anyone down there. Dress clean but down. Try not to stand out. Have empathy for the people of a developing country and know there are young men with little or no opportunity that see you as an opportunity if you look like easy pray or someone they may not like with something they may want. Just like the U.S. nothing good is happening late at night outside of your place of sleep. Same advice for the most part I’d give living in LA. Or most U.S. poor areas.

Honey the US is worst than Mexico. I've been to MX many times. Beautiful country, respectful people, and food is delicious. Media always hyping things up... smh.

I lived in Southern California for decades. I would travel 5 hours beyond Ensenada to volunteer at a medical eye clinic. This was during the 1980's & 1990's. I had a wife & 3 kids in a camper. We didn't lock doors to camper or car, even at night. I would not even think of doing that in 2024 ! I do my volunteer work in Panama but, of course, I fly down there. Stay safe but do good things to help others.

I take my car there all the time. It’s just like any other country. Even here in the Inland Empire there are murders everywhere but it doesn’t get reported in the news. It’s ok to go to Mexico just be precautious. Ive been to 85 countries. And lived in Honduras San Pedro Sula, the most dangerous city at that time in 2019.
