- wHy DoN'T CaRS uSE V16 EnGiNES? Bugatti made a V16 Engine, despite making a W16 Engine and the whole point of making a W16 was because 8 cylinders in a row on each bank was too long, therefore they compacted them down into a VR8 on each side and getting the chonky W16. Now they are undoing the pursuit of THICC for the pursuit of LANKY. This is a certified Gen Z Description.

Technically the Rolls Royce Phantom was originally planned to have a 9 litre V16, before it was replaced with a V12. A few of those V16 engines were actually made, and were used in the film Johnny English Reborn
v12 is balanced enough and provides sufficent power

Oh Bladed, look who’s bringing the v16 to the table
The bugatti v16 was not a concept anymore 😆
You can find V16 engines in a lot of industrial equipment. Things like off-highway trucks, industrial generators, and even some agricultural equipment.
oh thats neat
Also based Eula PFP
Diesel locomotives have them too
@@TheSilverShadow17 I think diesel locomotives have engines bigger than that, like V20s or V24s.

A modern V16 will go absolute nuts because they can put in a flat crank but like you said designing a chassis to hold all that is another thing

Don't forget about the original 30s Cadillac V16!
And btw, last week BMW revealed a second V16 prototype, Goldfish part 2. It was a prototype built while the E38 7 series was in development and was way bigger to properly fit the V16 into it unlike with the original Goldfish prototype. It looks amazing and would have been super luxurious (more of a Rolls-Royce rival than a Mercedes S-Class rival), but 90s economy sucked and so this car got binned

You forgot the Cadillac V16 that was actually made.
Cadillac made two different V16s, one 45 degree and one 135 degree
Bugatti literally announced one
Also the Marmon V16
I think Bugatti saw this and was like 'bet', so the new one has a v16
Ah yes the v16. Perfect for anything that's a small locomotive, or BIGGER.
V16 is the Inline 8 of that engine type.
V16s are long but are not as wide as you think... they will use a 45° degree bank angle which is half of a v8 90° angle... so its long but narrow

As someone who works with large Industrial Engines (Ships), not really. More Cylinders mean more Maintenance; e.g. has my Employer recently ordered new Ships that will be powered by Engines with 10 small Cylinders, to replace older ones with 6 large Cylinders. If I was to chose between adjusting 40 Valves or 24, I'd pick the latter.
Plus few large Cylinders are a wee bit more Efficient than more small Cylinders, because of the Square-Cube-Law. Large Cylinders have a better Ratio of Displacement to Surface Area, through which you lose Heat.
Bugatti: hold my baguette
The flagship Cadillac cars of the 1930’s had a V16 under the hood, they were brilliant for their day too
Bugatti tourbillion enters the chat
Ever notice how when people talk about old V8 engines, they always fail to mention the torque output, which is what they really measure when running a dyno. (horsepower equals torque multiplied by rpm. H = T x rpm/5252). Low HP doesn't necessarily mean a weak engine.
As i found this video , the V16 Cossworth Bugatti Tourbillon is already out 🗿
Thats how he writes his tinder bio👀
Dont forget the 1933 Cadillac V-16!!
(I know he mentioned Cadillac, but he mentioned the new one)
The advantage of V12s compared to W16s is that their structure is more simple and less prone to engine issues. Just look at how complicated A W16 is

Bugatti 2 months later:
Cadillac did make the first production v16's between the 1930's and 1940's they were basically a flew of how well you were doing and custom built to customers' specifications.
Lol guess you were wrong with the brand new Bugatti Tourbillon
Imagine we had a i16 💀
that engine bay gonna be as long as the old school batmobiles
Mercedes once considered a W18 in the W140 S-Class, the M216, but this was never built as it would not have been an upgrade for the V12 and would also have been more expensive and more difficult to work on. But that would certainly have been an interesting motor
Goes straight to my playlist, cool stuff man! Why u so underrated? I saw u in a car video's comments section, wish u good luck advancing since you do what you want very well! ;)
Clearly seems Bugatti is going to succeed, it comes out it 5 days from today
What's the difference between W and V? Like if w16s can fit why not v16?
a w16 is like two v8s and isnt as lengthy as the v16 and is more girthy i guess? so that's why it's a bit easier to fit? that's my understanding at least, i might be super wrong
W has four short rows of cylinders making it wide, V has two long rows, making it long
thank you guys
Completely different layout
It's two VR8 Engines, so it's more like two Banks of 8 Cylinders, where every two Cylinders are inclined by some 15 odd Degrees. Meaning to say the Bugatti Veyron/Chiron Engines still have only two Cylinder Heads, while two V8 Engines strapped together would have four.
Btw. does a real W-Engine have three Banks of Cylinders, so it would need 12, 15 or 18 Cylinders as 16 are impossible. There have been some W12 Engines, although IIRC, the W Configuration was most commonly used with three Cylinders.
On the other hand I heard diesel train locomotives often use V16s for some reason
Most do but they do also use V12 and V14 engines
This aged very well
This aged like spilled milk in ur car
Bugati watched this and said hold my beer lol
The Bugatti is a production car with a V16
Well I will say just 2 words: Bugatti Tourbillon
They do now
the Devel Sixteen is used to have a 13.6L V16 engine
“Nah, it’s going in the Miata”
Auto Union in the 1930s: Am I a joke to you?
In the 1940s Bugatti made a few v16s by putting 2v8 engines together
Im pretty sure the real issue with V16s is the increased likelyhood of bending over the crank shaft. This is one of the main reasons why BRM in the 60s went with a H16 instead of a V16.
I challenge any one to each this on max volume in public for the first 10 seconds…
Hear me out here put the v16 in sideways

technically at least in theory V16 is better than W16 because it "theoretically" should have a smoother function, the only benefit that a W16 has when comparing it to the V16 is that the W16 "theoretically" produces slightly less friction
Packard had a car with a 9.5L (577 cu in) straight 12 in 1929.
Big, heavy, fuel consuption is next level
On the Cadillac V16 GM was planning on putting one for their trucks to see if they can replace it for their big blocks at the time but never came out and they had a concept GMC suburban that put a V16 in it they still had to lengthen the front end on the truck
It's a reality now 🎉

The BRM P15 is my favourite race car which uses a 1.5L twin supercharged V16 which makes 600hp - 800hp
And sounds so sexy
How did they made a 16 cilinder with so little displacement? Thats less than 100ml per cilinder.
I feel like a potential benefit of a v16 vs a w16 when it comes to aftermarket support is a wider potential compatibility margin for example you could have two v8 headers on one side and do a quad turbo setup vs a twin turbo with the same headers although I don’t see a market for such after market as if you have one they are going to be Uber expensive and you would probably have no urge to modify it in fear of voiding any “warranty” it has in place
Bro imagine the Koenigsegg Gemera But a V16 Engine the size is Massive enough to fit it and Making it a 4 seater to a 2 seater Damn Imagine how much Power and Speed that Gonna Go Probably Fly instead of Driving

-'Goldfish' BMW 750li
-Cizeta Moroda V16T
Let me know if I forgot something. I think I did

There is also crankshaft and especially camshaft rigidity that starts to become a problem when you're putting 8 cylinders/bank
Nah there's plenty Industrial Engines with up to 24 Cylinders, aka 12 per Bank. Made e.g. by Caterpillar or MTU. Marine Two Strokes even are built with up to 14 Inline Cylinders, although these have a split Crank Shaft at 9+ Cylinders, and don't have Cam Shafts anymore since 15-20 Years.
OK, hear me out, we make a front and Rear engine. Sounds stupid yes? Make 2 gearboxs and sack the trunk, the front engine powers the front, the back powers the back, a computer stabilizes the 2 engines to work together
Caddy made on during the great depression, most of em were scrapped or hidden because the poors would throw rocks at them.
