  • A run over Corkscrew Gulch in Colorado's San Juan Mountains. We were in a stock Jeep Wrangler (thanks Budget!) with aired-down street tires. It's a relatively easy trail with a few tight switchbacks, steep climbs, shelf road sections and spectacular vistas. Shot handheld on GoPro Hero9.

So nice to just hear the wind and the tire’s rolling over the rocks

Thanks! I agree that many a video are ruined with music.

I'm a noob to any real offroading, and have just picked up a Colorado ZR2, so, I'm looking for nice scenic roads that aren't difficult and that I can learn the truck and build my skillset on before I tackle things that will actually challenge the ZR2, so thanks for the vid! Gonna have to look that one up.

Welcome to off-road life! One of the easiest ways to look up trails and plan is onX offroad. This will allow you to look up most well traveled trails and see ratings / difficulties of that particular trail. This video for example Corkscrew Gulch is rated 3 of 10. For a ZR2 and while you are building skills this is great. When you jump to level 4 trails you will be avoiding touching body panels usually a high center which is touching the belly of the truck. The other part of a pickup that will touch rocks is the rear bumper.
When you get to 5 of 10 and above is when you are at real risk of breaking things on a vehicle. This all depends on your driving.
To impart on piece of advice while you are learning. Move as slow as possible and as fast as you necessary. Repeat after me. “I have to drive this home!”

@@therealsasquatch7779 Thanks! I'm tempted to get OnX, I've heard good things. Maybe I can get it work directly with the ZR2 instead of my work phone (which I can't load apps on). Google maps is standard on the truck, and it DID plan routes to Chicken Corners and Gateway, so... I have an AllTrails subscription for planning, but if there was just cool maps to pull up, that'd be best. Dunno if AllTrails has that either. I just booked a motel for 4 nights in Moab to do some stuff I did before in my RAV4, and try a couple new ones. Want to do Chicken corners, and there was some "Valley" I wanted to do, gonna try and find it. NOT Fisher Valley but I did that in the RAV a few years ago and am planning on doing it again this trip. I want to cut across to Gateway CO too, as I did that a couple years ago on my '21 KTM 890 ADV R. I plan on scenic easy stuff only, as I'll be solo again, it'll be good to have the extra capability I DIDN'T have last time. I don't think I'll ever want to do 5's and beyond actually. I just want to go places and absolutely know that the ZR2 has more than enough spare capability to get me easily back home. Thanks again!

Most of the roads in the alpine loop area are easily done in a stock vehicle. Your ZR2 will be more than capable. Back in my ski bum days living in Silverton we would drive cars to animas forks and Cinnamon Pass for the sweet spring corn runs! This was a rental Jeep with street tires slightly aired down. No problem!!

Silverton to Animas Forks, around to California Pass, Hurricane Pass and on to Corkscrew Pass is a beautiful ride that you can do easily. Can't hurt to pack a lunch and take the side trip to Lake Como as well.

@@lewisfell6031 Thanks! I went to Animas Forks on my KTM 890 ADV R a couple years back, and chickened out going further since I was new to the bike (twice as heavy as my last one), returning to dirtbiking after decades off of them (sportbikes only), and was alone. Don't know if I'm up for Engineer or Cinnamon yet in the ZR2, but I'll try all the easy to easy-moderate stuff I can find! My problem is that I don't know the easy routes. I have a Garmin for the KTM and another for cars, but I think I need onX so I don't blindly go somewhere I shouldn't. Thanks again!
