    Thanks so much for sharing this vdo. I have the same issue with my 1991 gmc 2500. Went out & purchased the Ignition coil, replaced and boom the darn thing runs like a champ again😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 could have spent 100s if not 1000s for some mechanic. It's only cost me $23.00 and less than a lunch break to fix it.

    I would go to the auto parts store and go one hose at a time and replace every vacumn line to your system I am banking this is is not only needed but will prevent future problems too.
    Take one hose off go inside get a replacement and return to your ride this way you don't get overwhelmed or forget what hose goes where.
    Do this one by one you will thank yourself later as you will get optimum fuel economy.

    Good job Justin!!! Years ago I had a similar problem. However, my car stopped dead while crossing a four lane highway!!!! It didn't start back for what seemed like minutes meanwhile a tractor trailer was heading my way with his hand on his air horn. I jumped out of the car incase he would've hit me. He was so close, but he swerved out of the way just missing my car by inches!!!! Needless to say, it started back up after that. I ended up junked the car the next day!!! It was to close for my comfort lol:))

    There are also a filter in most models called a pressure pump located somewhere on the frame usually under the drivers side of the vehicle. Those are most likely the filter that gets clogged. The one in the tank has much bigger holes in the filter.

    sounds to me more like a vacuum leak. I would purchase a roll of vacuum hose it's cheap enough about 10 bucks for a roll replace each piece of Hose you come across. Pull one off at a time measure cut to length replace. As old as the van is I can guarantee you all your vacuum lines are dry-rotted and you're getting vacuum leaks that's what's causing the hesitation.

    If your too the point of almost stalling out check the TPS throttle position sensor. If the computer didn’t know what position the throttles in it’s going to be confused and might not add enough gas. The computer looks at the MAP TPS MAF and Oxygen sensors to input the right amount of gas at a given time.

    Also when you change something helps to leave a little tag on that part to remind you of when you changed that part. We keep rides so long and forget when we do work.
    When I change oil on my Prius I have this big space on top the engine that has nothing written just open space. I get a sharpie and write the mileage and the date I change the oil. Also helps to sell the car a lot of people will say they want proof you changed the oil while it is not proof it looks way better than saying I did it here is the receipt . I have never seen anybody misplace their engine? So I just have to look for the tallest number on the top the engine and add 5K to it and I know my next due oil change.
    Hybrids have less frequent oil changes because the electric system will get your car going for the first couple hundred yards then the ICE will kick in. I wonder how much cleaner my engine is by not sucking in the soot and carbon of the other rides as they are doing their hardest work with less wind flow? All I can say is hybrids are a marvel at how well they run. They are masterpieces.

    I don't think that removing your fuel tank to service pump issues is out of your skill set. One bit of advice, "Tools don't cost you money if you need them and know how to use them. They make you money". Tell me what it would have cost you to have a shop do what you did. That is what your skill and tools made you! Proper tools for the task at hand, may be the difference between getting the job done yourself or paying others to do it. Finally, taking some of the money you saved doing this yourself might be well invested buying the tools you wish you had, like a set of vice grips. A set of three are < t $10 at Harbor Freight. With any next fix you might need them. Tools can make you a lot of money when you have them and when you needed.

    it sounded pretty good, kind of hard to tell w/o being there. I don't remember if you changed the air and pvc filters, they are fairly inexpensive and a dirty air filter will effect mileage. • @311baca

    If you're handy like that you should make your own K&N air filter intake. It'll boost your gas mileage and give you much more power. Or, if you're cheap and know you're going to be driving up and down steep hills on paved roads you can take the top off your factory air filter cover and turn it upside down for a nice boost.

    • @sandmanxo
      @sandmanxo 8 лет назад +1

      +Jess B K&N is more hype than real world gain. I've fallen for them too, they sound nice on a V8 but really don't give you any measurable gain in power or mileage(I had one in my 2000 F150 for over 150,000 miles.) While they can give you a few extra HP at the top of the rev range, nothing is free, they do it by filtering less effectively and the extra power is not noticeable(outside of the placebo effect that is.)
      In an RV you want reliability over anything else, as they aren't meant to be fast. Best bet is to keep it stock.

    • @311baca
      @311baca 8 лет назад +1

      sandman x While I appreciate your opinion, I've also installed one on a vehicle that had a very restrictive air box. Immediately the sound of the engine was better, and I noticed a bit more power throughout the entire power band. I never measured the gas mileage to see a statistical gain but I did notice a bit of an increase. I would think that anyone who's driving a vehicle getting around 12mpg's would appreciate a gain. Especially if you're just driving on paved roads around the southern US. There's no reason not to. Especially on an older 360 like that.

    • @sandmanxo
      @sandmanxo 8 лет назад

      +Jess B That's true it might help more on an older smog motor vehicle with restrictive intake. As far as being so much better to save the $50ish spent on the filter it probably doesn't make sense with less than $1.50 a gallon gas right now. Gas is going for around $1.30/gallon where I am near the Houston area.
      As far as my situation, I bought my 2000 F150 5.4L new and switched to a K&N around 50K. I tracked the mileage every fillup for the first 100K and didn't see a statistical difference in the results. I did probably save more in air filter costs though, as it has 220K now and somewhat recently tossed the K&N for a traditional filter. Mileage is always 14-17mpg depending on how much highway driving there is on it.
      As far as the 360, it's a very good motor. I've only owned it's smaller cousin, a 273CI in a 1969 Dodge Dart. The main reason not to get a K&N is it allows larger particles through which could wear out the engine sooner. It probably doesn't matter to the average driver, but as someone that doesn't mind well over 200K miles on a motor I prefer better filtering. Here is an article on filtering as an example: www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html

    I have a Dodge B3500 Class B too. That engine looks like it could use a set of plugs and spark plug wires too. And a rotor, cap, and PVC valve. Tie-rods might be a problem the guy said, but it wouldn’t get from Ohio to Utah. He says it’s in good condition and wants $1,200. The transmission is an automatic. Also how hard would fixing a van from the 80’s to 90’s be doing it yourself with no experience and with just the repair manual? Thanks!

    Hesitation ...means the engine combustion goes lean... u have injection or carb ??? ....there is a restriction in the fuel ....There could be many reasons for hesitation , and Engines degrade slowly with many things that degrade. What is the vacuum at idle , fuel pressure , air filter condition , fuel pressure, maybe bad fuel and water in fuel tank ...spark plugs need to be regapped ...

    PLEASE HELP!!! We have a 95 S10 chevy blazer, my husband is completely stumped which scares me because he knows his ish....we have replaced the fuel pump 3 times in the past 6 months or so, he just put a new one on 2 days ago and while he was driving at work tonight all the sudden it started stumbling and wouldn't go over 10 mph. So now here we sit again completely clueless as to what's happening. It idles smooth but is hesitating on acceleration. We have put Autozone fuel pumps on, which I am getting mixed reviews about now. ANYTHING you can tell us to help would be very appreciated. If we don't figure this out soon we will lose everything because that truck is our money maker, we have kids, my husband is a driver so the truck is key to our survival......we need help!!! Thanks In Advance :)

    there is no fuel filter in the tank,,, there may be a screen but the filter should be on the frame,,,, and you could of got some bad gas,,,, so it sounds like a fuel problem,,,or filter problem,,,, or you damaged a spark plug wire when you replaced them,,,,

    also isopropyl drygas ,i'm sure you got bad gas along your travels- hey we all get bad gas now and then ya know? but now your van may so walmart has this and it's a good idea to keep this cheap and small container or two onboard when she starts burbing and farting - remember that's what gas does to ya!

      Just in a Van no problem. Also next oil change wouldn't hurt to use the oil stabilizer. Brings more oil to the top of the motor for better lube.

    Dodge and not chevy thats what's wrong w it. If it were a chevy it would have the coil right In the cap it's all one unit distributor cap rotor wires coil everything is in the same.place w that system there the coil is more exposed to.weather and also the separate coil wire can fail as well they do make a replacement distributor made from.the bottom.half dodge amd the top half Chevy they work pretty good too same.for.ford

    Check the resistance of your spark plug wires. If over 12,000 ohms change them.
