Thank for sharing what Grady shared with you in this video. I don’t own any of this gear but I’m trying recreate Dime’s tone in my Axe FX 3. Now that know the order he ran everything I at least have a starting point.

Could you do a video of a dime rig but going through the gear piece by piece? Starting from guitar to amp then adding each piece of gear so we can hear what each piece is doing.

I sure can do that. The only piece I wouldn’t be able to turn off is the 6 band cause it doesn’t have a switch. It just stays on. Other than that I can do that for the rest

I have one of those 31-band EQ's too! Mine's been broken for a few years, but I used to use it as the 6-band before I got my 6-band! Anyways, it's cool to hear a clear tone video of the C170! 👍
@@DomicidalCovers lol I have literally never used mine. Got it for my birthday like 4 years ago and it just sits there as a decoration piece lol thank you for that! Check out the video where I did with the rig in a mix. It’s newer video but it’s titled Dimebag Tone in a mix I believe.

Well, technically half of Dime's tone. He used an ABY (or "ABC") and ran into a second "dry" amp. For cleans he used a Mesa Boogie MkIV that was "hidden" inside a Randall chassis, until the Warhead came out.. And one more extremely important thing.

Been waiting for this one, tearin it up as usual! Thanks for doing this man. I have most of this gear and some similar stuff, I've been getting some great tones with it but I'm just having some trouble nailing the Dime tone. Hopefully this will help me get closer to it, thanks again!

@@dustylnstudios3938 hey can you check in the back of your aphex for the +4db settings etc.. whats yours on? Theres a few pieces i believe that has a switch for + or - db on the back... whats yours set to?
@@dustylnstudios3938 and its weird thr HUGE tonal difference between your 170 and my 170 ii... the 170ii has to much natural gain and dont take to being boosted well at all... sounds muddy and shitty with all those exact settings on a real jag cab from the 80s sounds like strait dick

It’s a great cab! I absolutely love mine and I wouldn’t get rid of it! They come with reissued jaguar speakers! Thank you for your compliment!
do you run everything through the front? You didn't go into the actual connection of everything
Are u sure those have jaqs? They should just be regular Randall speakers. I took my by back plate off and was curious myself. They were just regular Randall.

Up front it does do a little something but it’s very subtle, the effects loop is where I believe this unit really shines! Up front I believe adds a little more sizzle to your gain. In the loop it will take and make your amp thump really well and hard!

Question, are you running the wah cocked in the chain? Is it contributing to the gain structure in any significant way? Really the closest I’ve seen anyone get to the grail.
No my man, I honestly really don’t use the Wah that much. I pretty much have it for nerd purposes really lol 😂
I have noticed though. If I ran either the Dime signature Wah or the crybaby original it wouldn’t work right, it would cut the tone off and make it sound like the threshold on your noise gate was super super tight. The Vox Wah works perfect! It’s weird lol
Lol thanks man, i put a lot of hard work and time into this rig and getting it as close as I can, still feel like it could use a tweak or two. Theres some RUclipsrs that have damn good tone. KILL-X, Haze-Covers to name a couple. Check them out as well!
Great video. I wonder if the Dual Rectifier can replicate his sound since I'm a huge fan of that amp.
Thanks man! I appreciate that! Hmmm 🤔 that’s a good question. If you sit and tweak it, it may get close! There’s someone that plays Pantera tunes with a Marshall JVM 410 and it’s in the ballpark with tone!

@@SeabassIbarra it could work, just need some tweaking. Scooped mids on the amp and then boost them with the 6 band and PQ4! Do you have those pieces?

@@SeabassIbarra nice!! You can use pretty much any parametric eq as well! I used to use a Rane Pe15. They work as an alternative!

Hey man, great video! How did you get in touch with Grady Champion? I live in Dallas and I've been looking for a good guitar tech for a metal guitar with a Floyd, and I know he'd be the man with that answer.
I got in contact with Grady through Facebook. Super nice guy, doesn’t always respond because I’m sure he has a busy life lol but when he does he’s nice and explains it very simple.
I tryed these same settings on my 170 mkii and it wasnt the same. I played through a vintage jag 4x12 from the 80s .. dean ml usa slime... patent pending bill lawrence l500 lead.... ..all exact equipment. Can you name the exact #'s 100 850 1.5 6k?
Yep those are right my man! I went back and watched. I forgot to mention. The first shelf button, push that in. The second one leave that peak.

How essential is the flanger doubler? Thing is too dang expensive
It really isnt, but the doubler effect does give your tone a bit of extra "bite" (probably only noticable at high volume considering how fucking blasted Dime kept his volume knob at all times)
I would say it makes the tone more well rounded! There are cheaper alternatives out there. The MXR Digital Time Delay has a doubler and flanger built into it. Along with Chorus and Delay! I use to have one of those.
Then there is the UAD Astra pedal. That has the original MXR Flanger/Doubler effect along with 3 other effects! (Definitely looking into the Astra)
You can also get a double effect with a MXR Carbon Copy Delay, you’ll just have to set it right.

@@dustylnstudios3938 whats funny is those are a bit off.... i actually found a few pics where grady moved the knobs of the second pq4 so it matched the first one (damageplan) settings... but what he forgot to do was remove the greese pencil marks on the bottom one where the (pantera) settings go :) whoops grady.. ide imagine its vdp settings since damageplan played walk a lot... booom
