    *Here's to anyone who wants to learn how to play like Dime:*
    Get his techniques down, but it doesn't have to be perfect, then just have fun and play from your gut. Just do what feels right. Have fucking fun! Honestly, THIS is how Dime wanted other guitarists to be. Don't worry about messing up or just hitting one note wrong, just keep going and have fun. It really does NOT get much more simple than that.
    RIP to the legend...

    All of dime’s riffs were legendary because he wrote most on the shitter, which all of you know is in close proximity to the shower, which is where all the greatest ideas come from. If he could have wrote tunes in the shower, he would have made tunes only audible to the gods themselves... RIP DIME & VINCE!

    Dimebag is truly one of the greats. But not just for his chops, but the heart that drove it all. That guy lived life like no other. I have never heard of anyone say that he treated them bad, said anything bad or anything negative. It was always "what's your name? Well let's do a shot William Smith and raise some hell!" That was his MO. Total stranger? Not in 2 minutes. No, in two minutes we're going to be best buddies.

    Dime has a video where he explains how he does his harmonic dives without picking. He flicks the string as he dives the bar and then hits the harmonic on the way back up.

  • @johnw.ryoniv8953
    @johnw.ryoniv8953 4 года назад +9

    I just saw I video where Dime explains how he usually does the squeal. Mute all but the G string with your left hand, flick the G string with a finger on the left hand, divebomb the whammy, grab a harmonic, and then lift it up. He did it so fast you don't even hear the divebomb. However, it's important to make it sound exactly like Dime. Don't mean to be rude, just repeating what Dime said himself.

  • @metallaholic
    @metallaholic 7 лет назад +159

    For dime squeals you do a random pull off so you have an open G string with your left hand , dip the bar , catch the harmonic on the way up, continue pulling up on the bar for the squeals. It's a fast motion. There's a video of dime explaining it. Just doing a natural harmonic isn't correct.

    If you wanted to know you were playing cemetery gates main riff in the wrong position. The opening chugs are right but dime moves up the neck and uses the A and E strings 7th fret position to play that riff, of course it doesn't matter much but if you like doing that one off massive bend he puts in then it easier to do in that position.

    • @austinfailz
      @austinfailz 7 лет назад

      Dime plays the chorus, the part with the pinch harmonics and whatnot, in the 5th position. Not sure if that's what you meant or not.

I remember reading interview from Terry Date who produced 3 Pantera records saying that Dime was so neurotic about recording process that he didn't give up until he can play exactly the same in all of 3 or 4 takes (for multi tracking rhythm part). Terry said he didnt recommend actually playing exactly the same all the time just to create this thickness when overlaid.

    @damien2729 5 лет назад

    Dime dives the bar, flicks the open string with his left hand, as it's dipped and when he pulls up the bar, taps the harmonic on the string he's making scream so it has a further motion to grow and longer the squeal. Everything else was bloody brilliant!

    I'm diggin your videos man. I just picked guitar playing back up after about a 10 year break... been struggling but these videos are helping me get back in the swing. Keep em coming! Don't know if you've done one or not but a Mark Tremonti techniques video could be fun

    The lick at 5:45 sounds like (part of) the opening lick in Sometimes She Cries, by Warrant. Although, it's a D, instead of an E.

    This is my Favorite lesson video on youtube, Ill be getting stuck into these techniques and re watching this many times. You obviously put alot of time and effort into researching and putting these together whether you had help or not and that is very inspiring making me want to do the same. but ill just take the easy way and let you do the hard work for me ;) you have earned another life long subscriber/student \M/ \M/

    There are some unique things that they do that are quite interesting.

    It never ceases to amaze me how Dimebag never practiced in the sense of practicing. He always had fun while learning and that is how one should approach learning techniques imho

    Great video! Thanks! In one video I saw someone asked Dime how he does the whammy bar stuff and he was showing the guy and the guy was asking for more details and Dime just said "man you just gotta go for it." and I dunno I always remember that when I'm trying to learn something new and its true. Sometimes you just gotta go for it, and sometimes you wont get it and sometimes you will.

    On the divebomb/power term harmonics, if you want two get one of the truly authentic Dimebag sounds. Try left hand muting (let your thumb climb over the top muting the lower/ thicker E,,A,D what your first and second finger catch the high E, and B)say all of the strings except for the g string, use your ring /3rd finger to do a pull off as your picking hand plays/lightly taps any of the harmonics as you flip the whammy bar back pulling it back, you get those haunting blended shrills the stand your hair on ends leaves butterfly courses in your guts. If you put a bit of the wah wah, or octivizer peddle on top of it people will think you are channeling Dime bag. Will after a bit of wood shedding it, and it flows fourth what seems like effortlessly. It took me a few days to pull off this technique, but it didn't come out whole until like a mouth later when I slammed some brutal attitude into it, that was when it truly felt whole. Hope this helps someone else get the same feeling I got that night and every time since.

    One should never play the 3rd straight in 'the blues' or similar - always that slight bend to imply the ambiguous major. :)

    I've always thought Dimebags sound was particularly cool sounding but I never really have done a deep dive into what he does. Pantera was just one of those bands that i liked the sound of but never really listened to them.
    This video was well done.

    The Phrygian scale makes everything sound like spanish/flamenco, that's why it's so awesome. BTW you must know EVH was one of his big inspirations. Listen to oldskool Eddie and you can practically play all of Dimebags stuff.

    Another easy way to do divebombs is to dump the bar slightly, tap the harmonic, and rip it. It will give you a lower starting point, make the strings slinky so you can tap them easier, and allows you to get much higher harmonics then starting off at the normal point
