10 years later, and Wildewoman is still a go-to in my library. It's one of those great albums that doesn't age, and they still play tracks at their live shows - and they still give me goosebumps. Absolutely one of my favorite bands of all time.
i literally will never get over this concert. one of the most magical performances i have ever seen via video. in complete and utter awe every time i turn it on.
Lucius is one of my favorite bands ever, and one of the big reasons is because they become one in their music. At 14:30, you can see the two singers get off beat on their percussion together, while still filling in as what is right automatically. One isn't catching the other one off beat and covering, they literally don't even realize they swayed a bit cause the whole phrase is mostly there. Their music is so natural, subconscious, and real. They are so amazing.
First heard Lucius yesterday. Got all goose pimply over the refrain to "Go Home." Immediately bought the album, which is consistently catchy, fun, beautiful. At my age, musical obsessions don't come around as often as they once did. I'm grateful for this one.
Just popping in, since I see some of the comments are five years old. This is still one of the greatest things to have ever been witnessed. Considering I saw them play in my local park, I am beyond pleased to see they are still thriving.
@Michael Morgan I have ALWAYS thought this--"Genevieve" is so much simpler and more powerful here. I like the one on the album, but this so raw and I feel like it gets to the heart of the song.
What a treat, watching and listening to their creative process near the session's end! A unique sound, with pure vocals. Can't wait to see them live shortly...
Just saw this band on Austin City Limits and I have to say What a breath of fresh air. I am in my mid 60’s and I love the sound and positive energy of this band. Great job, I will follow.
Guys, guys, guys - how is this even possible..? Perfect harmonies, counter-point vocal arrangements, understated acoustic-electric abundance... HOW..? ANSWER ME...!
The blend of their voices never fails to fascinate...I absolutely love that I cant tell whose voice is whose, so beautiful. Thank God they found each other. :)
Saw them in person for the first time in Portland Tuesday night....oustanding and moving show! I listened to their set on KEXP in 2014 a bazillion times. Dusty Trails makes me cry everytime.
I’ve been listening to this NPR session for the past 6 months - over and over again. It is so good on so many levels: lyrically, musically, vocally, and the arrangement and stage presence are phenomenal. It hits me personally every time and it also makes me think of the hearts of my daughters. Thank you so much for this raw and real and stripped down performance. Cannot be any better💙
I am a longtime listener of the Tiny Desk Concerts. They have turned me on to dozens of bands and reinforced my respect for those I already had the fortune to encounter. This is truly one of the best performances I've seen on youtube in quite sometime.Thank you NPR!
incredible - I'm 55, mainly rooted in jazz, but these girls are killing... no words to describe the beauty, power and emotion of this band. PERFECT... keep on groovin'
7 лет назад+1
herbert ebenbauer they are just musically outstanding...a real pleasure
Got to say I've been completely obsessed with the third song, 'Genevieve' today. Absolutely perfect mix of song-along, call and response, sequence, cross rhythms and the x factor. Lyrics are cool too. Faultless.
Does anybody else enjoy how she said.. Cashew, cashew box... ? Cause I certainly did. Still can't stop listening. Still mind blown. These girls are gorgeous. More please. Thanks and good night. :)
I usually don´t say much, but now i feel i must. I did listen to the studio versions of these songs, and they have been choked by who ever sound engineered them. And yes they are over compressed for these amazing voices. This here live performance is however a place of heaven. No compression, all full throttle, all heart. Music is in the moment, for the moment, by the moment. This should be recorded live in the studio, for a album, for as the whole band connects with each other, they are on fire
I was about to walk away from the video until they busted out their harmony, set to 11...Great GOOGLY MOOGLY!!!...now, I've listened & watched everything I can find of them...They're really fun to listen to...musically in sync with each other, and it's really hard to get those harmonies out of your head...Thank you Lucius, and (again) thank you TDC for getting me hooked on yet another artist I never would have found otherwise. Now it's time for Allen Stone & Wulfpeck for the eclectic tastes...and an acoustic Queens of the Stone Age for something more mainstream
I saw you in Seattle. The goodbye in the middle of the audience, and unamplified was absolutely spectacular. Plus I ran into the band outside the theater. Great show ! Thank you again !
Just saw Lucius at Interstellar Rodeo on Sunday, they were awesome as usual! Had a meet & greet, they were so nice and willing to answer questions. I love this band!!!!!
One thing I've noticed about Berklee alumni is that they are for one incredibly talented, intelligent, and creative, but also extremely diverse and know how to extract technique from a huge array of genre and make it their own.
Yeah, these guys/girls are a blast. Music just seems to spring from them; lotta love for creativity and frivolity. An air of easy command & understanding of music, how to work it for all its richness, without taking itself/themselves too seriously.
I live for live music and acoustic performances. I wish NPR and stations like CoffeeHouse on XM/Sirius would archive or allow us to download/purchase these types of performances. Keep up the great shows, NPR, and Thank You!
Прекрасная музыка. Ничего не знал о Lucius пока не посмотрел "Roadies" Благодарю за прекрасную музыку. Wonderful music. I did not know anything about Lucius until I saw "Roadies" Thank you for the wonderful music.
+Rikard Peterson I heard this on our local NPR station while passing through the kitchen. Got one of the singer's names and the name of the band. Went on the web and fell in love with these musicians. Such originality!
I did the exact same thing with their KEXP show. I heard this studio album a few times before and liked it, but it wasn't quite for me. Then I caught their live performance while cleaning, and it's night and day how much better they are live. I immediately bought tickets to their next show.
Speaking of wardrobe, did you notice the symmetry on the girls' earrings? I bought Wildewoman before i saw this and now I'm hooked more than ever. I love the improvised percussion at the end on "Genevieve", but this version of "Turn It Around" is the best I've found. Love how raw it is and how much emphasis they put on the Ah-ha-ha-ha-HA! Like another poster said... the official release feels overproduced. I don't go out to many shows these days, but would jump at the chance to see these guys perform!
I have been checking out alot of artist I have never heard until they was a guest with someone I listen to. These girls are totally uniquely awesome and this session is unlike anything I have ever heard. Thank you
Loving the chamber pop format of Tiny Desk Concerts. It's both a self-selecting curatorial mask for framing pop music, and a structure that shapes the sounds various groups bring to the format.
Wow. Just wow. These guys are mind blowing. I don't think I've ever seen a band with so much style and charisma. Just watching them makes me want to get up on stage and play. So unique. So good. 10, 000 thumbs up!
Thank you! I've watched this video at least ten times and have bought the EP. I've been through a bunch of other Tiny Desk Concerts to find another gem like this, but so far no luck - the musicianship just shines through on this one.
it's been 10 years and this still lives in my memory and heart.
Is that you?
I've watched this an embarrassing number of times, never gets old
Amanda Feliciano same!
Samsies..Genevieve is my fav but the way they bled the 1st two songs together is amazing too tho
They are awesome!
yeah me too, their KEXP show is also fantastic
You're not wrong, I'm back yet again. Lost count some time ago. I bought the records, but this performance has such great energy
the way this band plays together and pays attention to every detail still gives me chills 11 years later. easily one of my favorite tiny desks ever.
"...and what you're witnessing from Lucius at the Tiny Desk sounds like the early days of a long career." Solid prediction, Bob.
2024 gang
Found in 2013 and still listening in 2024
Same here!!🎉🎉🎉
I think this is my all time favorite tiny desk concert.
Check out the Pixies tiny desk it's so good! As well as Xenia Rubinos, Haley Hendrickx, and Aurora.
10 years later, and Wildewoman is still a go-to in my library. It's one of those great albums that doesn't age, and they still play tracks at their live shows - and they still give me goosebumps. Absolutely one of my favorite bands of all time.
The vocal harmonies and power in "Go Home" bring me to tears every time.
i literally will never get over this concert. one of the most magical performances i have ever seen via video. in complete and utter awe every time i turn it on.
Couldn't of said it better myself...how on earth can 2 voices sound this amazing...who helped them all find eachother?

I’ve seen them live, listened to their CDs, watched their videos, but I love this one because they’re having fun and happy.
First heard Lucius yesterday. Got all goose pimply over the refrain to "Go Home." Immediately bought the album, which is consistently catchy, fun, beautiful. At my age, musical obsessions don't come around as often as they once did. I'm grateful for this one.
Me Too!
Just popping in, since I see some of the comments are five years old. This is still one of the greatest things to have ever been witnessed. Considering I saw them play in my local park, I am beyond pleased to see they are still thriving.
still kicking :)
holy crap...this is the best stuff Ive heard since the last thing i heard on NPR
does anyone else find that they prefer these tiny desk concerts to the more produced versions of the songs?
iTunes just doesn't feel the same :/
Check out Teri Gender Bender from La Butcherettes on Tinydesk
I've seen them live twice...it was not bad.
100%
@Michael Morgan I have ALWAYS thought this--"Genevieve" is so much simpler and more powerful here. I like the one on the album, but this so raw and I feel like it gets to the heart of the song.
I am new to the music. I loved hearing the Indigo Girls. And Lucius is my 2022 Indigo Girls.
this performance had a profound effect on me. i love them
Hauntingly beautiful. They are better Live than recorded. Love Lucius! Chills when I listen.
What a treat, watching and listening to their creative process near the session's end! A unique sound, with pure vocals. Can't wait to see them live shortly...

This band makes me happy to alive.
this is the most organic perfect charming tiny desk concert. hopefully whoever thought these up was crying watching this.
I’m about to go see them for the 3rd time live in 2022 and they never miss!
Saw them in person for the first time in Portland Tuesday night....oustanding and moving show! I listened to their set on KEXP in 2014 a bazillion times. Dusty Trails makes me cry everytime.
Omg that song Genevieve. Amazing.
saw them for the first time yesterday at brooklyn bowl in LV. they opened with "go home" and it brought me to tears. amazing voices
What a wonderful conversation those two guitars are having...
"I broke your cashew tin," lmao. The fun they had with that is SO infectious- l smile every time I watch it. Awesome.
These songs have been stuck in my head for days now. Incredible talent, just pure musical genius! Love, love this.
I revisit this tiny desk concert often, a favorite! EPIC!
I have a feeling in 20 years, we'll be sitting in the room still listening to this perfection but with RUclips vr
The vocals are simply stunning for a live performance.

Wow! Amazing vocals and creativity. I'm not easily blown away, but this group does it for me!
The way they come up with the percussion on the fly during that last song...fricken impressive! Great sounds... (14:06)
I absolutely love how their sound is unique in each song! I'm digging this band! NPR... How do you find such rare talent?!
nobody is this awesome as Lucious.... best band in 2016
No words. Just in awe.
ditto
3 words - 'Less is more'
It’s absolutely stunning live in a concert. They don’t do they are all of them. This is and most dedicated musicians.
Lucius is everything.Gorgeous people and talent.
"everything", you put that well.
the way the singers smile at 5:00 shows so much passion! love this video
I am a longtime listener of the Tiny Desk Concerts. They have turned me on to dozens of bands and reinforced my respect for those I already had the fortune to encounter. This is truly one of the best performances I've seen on youtube in quite sometime.Thank you NPR!
Brilliant, talented, inspiring. A breath of fresh air. Lucius, keep doing what you do! It's perfect!
incredible - I'm 55, mainly rooted in jazz, but these girls are killing... no words to describe the beauty, power and emotion of this band. PERFECT... keep on groovin'
herbert ebenbauer they are just musically outstanding...a real pleasure
NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts make me so happy. This was so much beautiful fun!
SO detailed. From their appearance to the dynamics of the music. New Favorite Band. Can't wait to see you in UT on Valentines Day!! :)
Been watching Tiny Desk all day, and wow. This band really takes the cake. such power.
I have watched this sooooo many times. It gets better every time .
Peter sent me here and he was RIGHT. This is indie music at its best. Thank you Peter, you have my respect and more....
Two words: Dynamic. Control. Flippin' awesome set. And love the Danelectro slide work and rhythm riffs on a vintage Harmony!
Will never forget trekking out into the frigid Chicago winter to see you guys perform at the Cubbie Bear 2 years ago. So amazing.
That was fun!
Can't listen to this enough. Sultry, bittersweet, joyful. Thank you
Still obsessed with these vocal melodies
i wish i got the same chills from listening to their studio recordings, nothing beats this live performance
This band is fantastic. Amazingly good.
I remember watching this video back in the day and it blowing my mind- still does! What a performance!
Got to say I've been completely obsessed with the third song, 'Genevieve' today. Absolutely perfect mix of song-along, call and response, sequence, cross rhythms and the x factor. Lyrics are cool too. Faultless.

Music is in the moment, for the moment, by the moment. This should be recorded live in the studio, for a album, for as the whole band connects with each other, they are on fire
It's quite possible that I have played this one hundred times and may play it one million more. Because... Damm. Good Music!
What an absolutely breathtaking tiny-concert, I so love this band! So original, and an intimate & gorgeous sound in this recording.
Lucius- you should be making all your future recordings live! We
OH Good GOD!!! This is why I Love RUclips..... found you guys by accident, now it's a Love Affair!!!!!!
the talent on display here from those five folks is nothing short of amazing, not really something I normally would listen to but I can't get enough

If you ever get a chance- see them live. One of my top concerts.
Beautiful!! Jess, Holly and the guys, amazing...
Lucius...please have a concert in my area so I can see and hear you live.
They are amazing musicians and singers. You can immediately tell they are professionally trained. Amazing.
These guys are absolutely amazing! To sound that good live is incredible. LOVE them!
One thing I've noticed about Berklee alumni is that they are for one incredibly talented, intelligent, and creative, but also extremely diverse and know how to extract technique from a huge array of genre and make it their own.
yes, "dont just sit there" is amazing song played amazingly
Just saw them last night in Portland, ME. Super strong bass in your face and hypnotic banshee vocals. I loved every minute of it!!
Go home is my favorite of their songs
Lucius is hands down the best concert I have been to. Magical, mesmerizing.
Yeah, these guys/girls are a blast. Music just seems to spring from them; lotta love for creativity and frivolity. An air of easy command & understanding of music, how to work it for all its richness, without taking itself/themselves too seriously.
Their energy is so great to watch.. and that last song was soooo dope
I live for live music and acoustic performances. I wish NPR and stations like CoffeeHouse on XM/Sirius would archive or allow us to download/purchase these types of performances. Keep up the great shows, NPR, and Thank You!
I like the use of guitar distortion at a low volume so as to maintain intensity without overwhelming the focal point, which no doubt is THE VOCALS!
Their version of The Great Gig in the Sky in Curitiba was one of the most beautiful moment of my life
Wow amazing. They've got soul.
they were absolutely amazing! saw them 3 times... heres to more in the future!
F*cking incredible
Прекрасная музыка. Ничего не знал о Lucius пока не посмотрел "Roadies" Благодарю за прекрасную музыку. Wonderful music. I did not know anything about Lucius until I saw "Roadies" Thank you for the wonderful music.
Holy shit! Just found out from this video they're playing in Columbus TOMORROW and got a ticket!!! Hellll yesssssss!!!!!!
I had this on in the background, but I just had to stop what I was doing to listen completely. Great!
+Rikard Peterson I heard this on our local NPR station while passing through the kitchen. Got one of the singer's names and the name of the band. Went on the web and fell in love with these musicians. Such originality!

Such an inspired Tiny Desk performance!! Love the improvised version of Genevieve. I'm in awe!!!

9:15 Case in point, the guitar work on "Turn it Around" (wrong end of the telescope?) becomes readable in a way the album version doesn't feature.
Thanks to NPR and tiny desk concerts for introducing me to this band. Seven years on I hope to see them again post-pandemic
Wow. Just wow. These guys are mind blowing. I don't think I've ever seen a band with so much style and charisma. Just watching them makes me want to get up on stage and play. So unique. So good. 10, 000 thumbs up!
Lucius, simply LUSHIOUS,Luv this Band!
Thank you! I've watched this video at least ten times and have bought the EP. I've been through a bunch of other Tiny Desk Concerts to find another gem like this, but so far no luck - the musicianship just shines through on this one.
9yrs later and this still holds true
I was introduced to these amazing musicians at a Watkins Family Hour at Largo. LUCKY ME! They are so wonderful!!!
I cannot get enough. Come down south and play!!
