That's a very good looking camper. They have toilets that completely fold flat and only use bags and an absorption medium, the one by Fun Essentials comes with a popup tent so you can use it inside or outside. Then you could use one of those external Trasharoo type bags to put the little waste bags in with the rest of the trash.
Those both sound like good setups. We were considering a 17ft Casita travel traveler to tow with our 4Runner but ended up going with a truck camper for maneuverability. Happy camping to you as well!
Very nice video! I have a 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport with the double cab like you have. With the 6’5” bed. I am looking at options for a camper for my wife and I.
Not bad. Interior at 2:31 mins. Usually takes half the video to get to the interesting part. At my stage in life I’m not “hopping up” to get in my home. I’ll be sticking with my van.
Hello Josh and Kate, I noticed the lagoon table you have has that bracket with those long levers to adjust them, but in another video I noticed you have some knobs instead. Can you please tell me about that? I like the idea of the lagoon table to make more space when changing for snowboarding when we are two people.
We love the lagoon mount and I would really recommend it. We always take the table off and set it on the bed if we aren’t using the table for working or eating. The knobs are different because at some point I broken the original knobs. The other style twist knobs are just something I got from the local hardware store.
We agree! We plan on making some changes as well pretty soon. No modifications to the Tundra. The only thing I've done to the Tundra was get a Dee Zee brand rubber bed mat. We will mostly likely put airbags in the rear and upgrade to an E rated more aggressive AT tire when the time comes, but I think that's all we plan on doing.
Hi ya good video I have a Chevy Colorado with the v6 rear wheel drive I am in the market for one I here there is a center of gravity with the truck campers is it better in front of the axle or behind the axle and is it top heavy
That’s awesome. We really liked it, it came with our camper as we bought it used. We did end up replacing it was a glass lid two burner stove that’s permanently mounted. It was a great quality stove but it was large and took up a lot of space.
How does the Tundra do hauling that camper? I have the same tundra 4x4 truck with the 6.5 ft bed. Did you add airbags to the suspension? What type of gas mileage do you get hauling it at what speed? Overall, great review. I’d like to get one of these campers and get rid of my trailer.
Thank you! We’ve been really happy with our purchase. We think it handles great! Yes we did, we have Firestone Airbags/Daystar cradles as well as a Hellwig rear sway bar. The sway bar made a big difference in handling. On our most recent 6 day trip, we averaged 11.8mpg and I always drive cautious and go right about the speed limit. I can get around 13 for mpg if going the speed limit and it’s a long highway drive.
No were not really worried, we’re definitely over, payload to some extent though, our payload is 1300lbs on the Tundra our camper is about 1050lbs without any food/water/gear.
So heres my question,,,, whats to keep a prankster from closing the tailgate while you are both inside and no one is around?… Do you Chain n lockdown your tailgate?.
Hey just curious - what is the build weight of the camper and the payload capacity of the truck? I’m looking at this same setup. Seems like your truck is handling it well?
The camper is right about 1100lbs and our Tundra is rated for 1300ish pounds. So with us and our dog and water/food/gear, we’re over payload. We plan on getting Firestone airbags, a different sway bar and e rated all terrain tires to help. If you can afford to go with a different truck that has more payload, I’d recommend it but our stock Tundra has handled it well as it sits, in my opinion.
@@kateandjoshairbags will not help with being overweight on payload (actually makes it worse because of the weight they add). They only help with level.
Whoops, I guess I forgot to show them, they’re right under the happy jack mounts. If you jump to 2:42-2:45 in the video you can see them. They’re ratcheting tie downs that are bolted through the camper from the factory.
I just looked up the weight of this camper on their website. It says it's 1091 lbs. I have the same truck which has a payload capacity weight rating of 1300 lbs. In order to be legal, you would have to leave all your gear at home, travel by yourself and weigh a maximum 209 lbs when driving the truck. I don't get why these Rv companies don't tell you that their camper excedes the payload capacity of vehicles they say are compatible with their products.
Exactly, even the Olympic model is best suited for a 2500 and up class truck. I know some F150s can have pretty high payload capacity depending on the configuration. Our Tundra has a payload of right about 1300lbs as well. We’ve used it for 23 nights so far with no modifications to the truck and it’s fine, but we soon plan on getting airbags to help the weight. Now whenever I see a Tundra with a camper, I assume they’re over payload.
I'm glad it's working for you. Just realize if you get in to an accident, you're opening up yourself to a negligence lawsuit. Air bags will further decrease your payload as its adding to the net weight of the vehicle.@@kateandjosh
@@rickm5853 have you ever actually heard or know someone that this has happened to? Sued over being over payload for a RV accident? I've never come across an actual, tangible, example of this happening. Of course that doesn't dismiss the technical legalities around it but jsut have neve come across this actually happening to someone. Curious if you have.
Love the back door window mod,,,would like to find out what kit that is with the shade. The table mount is great,,,some things here I wish Scout would use in the new models. I'm close to ordering one but with issues still popping up and the fact they are about 10k overpriced its a tough call.
We like it a lot too! The table and window mod are really nice, we also agree and that’s why we waited to find a used Scout. Since we’re on the east coast, between tax and shipping we saved a lot on buying a used one just on those two things alone. I’ll try to find the link to the aftermarket window.

I think I’ve seen those before! Those are definitely a good option, the freestanding pop up tents are great too.
I love it. Remember, less is more once you start loading it up - leave room for the 2 of you😊.
Great video and informative of options for those who love outdoor camping
We had Yoho on Chevy half ton. Good little campers. We pull a Nucamp now.
Happy Camping.

Great review. Thanks very much.

Can you open the door if someone closes the tailgate on you at night?
Nope, I’d have to climb out a side window and go put the tailgate down. That is a concern, that’s why some people take the tailgate off.

We believe it was due to a wire getting pinched. It has a dometic portable cassette toilet.

how does the Tundra feel with it on the back? you need bigger brakes or airbags ?
We think it feels really good, we do have airbags and a seat bar though.
Nice camper! How often do you think you'll use it for trips as opposed to the 4runner?
Our goal is to both transition to fully remote jobs and live in it full time for a while and use the 4Runner for more off-road based trips.
