I would have thought you needed to rush to get the hot glue in before it cools. Thanks for this tip. You can now melt your old damaged lures into new ones.
You could try and make a normal swim bait by just putting a larg weighted hook in after you make the lure by cutting a slit and then reheating around the area so it bonds around it or by just heating up the hook and then putting it in
can you plz put a stencil in the description i am looking to get into lure making and i am thinking that this is a possible first lure project. BTW great job i love your creativity and your willingness to just jump into a new project. great job.
To help you somewhat you should use sticky back paper that would emanate you having to cut it out then tracing it onto wood you only have to make one cut I hopes this helps
Some people are fetishists with toes, hairs. Others with ropes, leather or latex ... you are with hot glue no big deal ... Nice work !!!! Still amazed with your carving skills. Nice nice nice ;)
I do use a Dremel to do some of the work on mine and other small power tools. That said, it is still really fun to make a lure and actually catch fish on it. Great feeling of pride and accomplishment when you reel in that first fish! Thanks for the video (even if it is an older one). Nice thing here is that you could easily fix tooth marks and rips in the lure by heating up the torn tooth mark.
Question, did you ever experimented mixing epoxy resin with baking soda? It doesnt reacts like with superglew, but does fine powder mixed in the resin provide a stronger final product? Good video, AGAIN
Nice technique for pouring with hot glue! :) I myself have been thinking how to pour with hot glue for a while now...been thinking to inject same way as soft plastics but directly from hot glue gun... BTW, "be free" is becoming a catch phrase, eh?.. koodos to Marling Baits , and Solar Baits!

if you use clear stickytape and tape the template over the shaped wood you can just cut through the template & tape on lines and transfer lines as cuts onto the wood without having to cut out and trace bit by bit
I think that could work pretty well on a flatter surfaces. Bait that has contours like mine it might be tricky to get it on without any wriggles and you would have to make 2 of them for both sides. Also i have a feeling that cutting through paper and tape might not be very accurate as they might move and wringgle up when you cut through them.
@@SolarfallBaits you might be right, first thing I thought of when saw you carefully cutting out each template though. Thanks for putting out great content ✌️

Great work man! Can't believe you just cought pike with that bait! Makes you wonder if these sometimes horrendous prices like 30-40€ for a swimbait are really worth it...
You're absolutely amazing. Could you post a link to your drawing of the lure? I would love to make this but I am terrible at drawing and could never to it. Thanks!
I have tried it too, i dont see a huge difference in the amount of bubbling between my method and the one you suggested. Perhaps it makes a difference with other brands of silicone that are more viscous.
You and Marling Baits are both very talented. You should do collaboration with him. I wondered if you were quoting him when you said, "be free!" Ha ha Thanks for the awesome vid. Next unusual material: HDPE (melted down milk jugs).
we have talked about several months ago but i havent been able to come up with a good collaboration lure that would be interesting for us to make or for you to watch us make. btw melting down plastic household items like bottle caps, milk jugs or soda bottles etc is not really possible as the plastic they are made from does not really like heat it seems. the few experiments i did so far ended with the plastic turning into vile smelling black goo lol
@@SolarfallBaits you have to use plastic marked hdpe or with a recycle triangle marked with a 2 in the middle. Then heat it in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius. It won't melt to a running silicone like material it will be more like a thick dough. You then need to put it in a jig and press it really hard until it cools to make surfaces smooth and to get rid of air bubbles. Use that to press blanks that you can carve like hard wood. I'm on my way to try this, my first try was ok but not good enough to upload on youtube. Maybe soon
@@SolarfallBaits I also had an idea of making a hard mold that you can have in the oven so you could just fill it with plastic and press it so you have a ready to paint lure right away
It probably wont work you will need to pre heat the mold and also when your about to close the mold you will need to heat the hot glue to make the 2 halfs bond properly and as far as i know caulking silicone is not very heat resistant and probably will melt.

I have been using glue gun for making baits years back,
worked like a charm but never really bothered to put so much detail in it. Great work!
Some quality content right here! Not the cheapest way to make a lure yourself, but it's as DIY as it gets, thanks for sharing your skills!
My son is turning one this month, at his bedtime we watch your videos that is the one shows he likes.

That it's good! You have to infect then with the pike fishing virus as young as possible! I do it with my son as well!
Very large, complex and thorough work, especially with regard to the detail of the scales. Thank you for showing me!
This video is so inspiring. Your patience and attention to detail is incredible. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks phil
Amazing what you can do with some simple tools. Great job.
What a great lure from some hot glue and time and effort but the detail you carved into the mold model was amazing congratulations sir.
The carving was actually kinda basic. My other projects like swimbaits i've made are far more detailed.
my fingers cramped up just watching you carve the scales... Nice work
Wow the craftsmanship on these lures is impeccable.
nice lure, i like the way you use unusual materials to good effect
In my opinion, you are a Master of lure Maker, love watching you great job..
I love it! Enough wobble with a nice belly roll. I think this would be a great trolling bait for musky.
Yeah probably would, you might have to scale it up a bit though
I would have thought you needed to rush to get the hot glue in before it cools. Thanks for this tip. You can now melt your old damaged lures into new ones.
technically that would work, however the amount of temperature and time it takes to do that probably would not be very practical in the long run.
Let us know if hot glue lures hold up in a hot car. Nicely done. Thx for sharing ✌❤
Tamara Buxton hot glue melts around 350 I think so it should be good..don’t quote me on that though lol

With hot glue a little hard, it's better to throw the paddle tail and add a lip. It will be awesome result. A little harder than Salmo lures
