I’ve watched his whole Drumeo 4 times now. I’m not even a drummer just a fan of the band, but he is an absolute beast of a player and I can watch him play forever.
He is so watchable isn’t he and an incredible player
Same. I'm never any less amazed by his playing.
I had never heard of this band until the Drumeo video. I was mesmerized listening to this drummer. Suddenly he may have jumped to the top of being one of my favorites.

Unreal drumming wasn’t it
The drumming on Atlantic will never cease to amaze me. I don't think it's a full minute of drumming but II makes it COUNT, it turns this smoky and bitter sadness into mercurial fury...until it stops and there's nothing but despair left. Masterful use of dynamics.

I love when he's using his right symbols, it's like he's rhythmically caressing them absolutely at ease and comfort.

I think my favorite part about watching him is he makes it just look like breathing. Like some complex function that he doesn't even have to think about, it's just a natural thing. Also very impressed with his speech pattern. Seemed very calculated and captivating. Not a ton of umm's and and's.

Very recently fell into the rabbit hole that is Sleep Token's music, and noticed the incredibly tasteful drumming right away.
It's very insightful hearing what fellow drummers have to say about II's technique, and what they do similarly/differently in their own music.
I think every musician that offered comment about II's playing used the phrase "he makes it look effortless" at least once, hahah!

I absolutely love how he can accent parts with the cymbals so effortlessly while still staying in the pocket on the rest of the kit
A good example being the chorus on Take Me Back to Eden
I was so impressed by the fact that II played his own drill beats on the electronic pad. I thought for sure that the beats were produced by a computer, but i was so pleasantly surprised.

I have had some appreciation for drums in the past (Danny Carey, Josh Freese, etc), but II’s sound has done something for me that has made drumming so much MORE.

I have never played percussion/drums, just have always loved the way the sound of some bands & musicians “feels” when I hear them, so I appreciate hearing someone like yourself who does know what they’re talking about comment on it 😊
For myself, watching ii play, I notice how he is so intentional with this movements, no wasted effort or energy, and an artistic athleticism that it may seem odd to say, but it reminds me of the beauty of a classically trained ballet dancer because they seem to have the same kind of ability to do something with such high technical difficulty and make it as mesmerizing and, like you said, effortless as he makes it look.

Like I all ready said II is a hypnotic drummer 😩 he actually made me want to train my ears to hear the drums in a song in depth, to understand what’s going on because for me drumming was always hard to get 🤣 But II is like i don’t know…He’s dancing on the kit not just drumming

Saw them live in Hamburg earlier this month and it was AWESOME! This band is incredible... and the drumming stood out to me big time! II is utterly talented and I was caught off guard by his solo in the "quiet" part of The Summoning! EPIC! WORSHIP 🤘🤘🤘

@@joelyjamz Oh yeah :D listening to you explain what he means in drumming was alot of fun too, I had to google ghost notes etc. to understand what that was but it makes total sense why drummers are in complete awe of ii :) Such a busy playstyle with those added ghost notes and fills and he just makes it work and makes it look effortless, I would lose myself trying to play ST songs :b Just imagine him at the age of drummers like Danny Carey from Tool, the stuff he will be able to do then
I second everything you said, including the cuddling. II's such a drummer's drummer. I suspect he's a snare nerd; the sound's always cracking and I adore the thin dark of the cymbals - just the right amount of shoosh. His incorporation of everything within a fill is nuts and scratches itches I didn't know I had.

I've been watching drummers and drummer videos for the last 20+ years - pretty much since you could watch videos on the internet. This video though... Arguably the most satisfying drum porn I've watched my entire life. I am watching it over and over, sending it to people, can't stop showing parts of it to my wife and friends who come over. Like I am some sort of a teen fan or something 😅. He is so thorough and articulate with his explanations as well. Kudos to Drumeo, for putting this together in such a deliberate way and for the insane mixing too.

I love that everyone has the same reaction to his snare! He's got some beautiful drum cam videos on his insta, Aqua Regia is my personal favourite, his cymbal playing in that one is so melodic 🖤

I like it, too but nobody should forget about good cymbals are more important. They can ruin everything. Really. For example the paiste brass cymbals for aorund 40€'s are sh*t.

An absolute beast! Love this guy. So much flair and groove. He's the real deal. Very tasty playing..high strung snare. Sure comes through in the mix. Reminds me of drummers like John Stanier from Helmet while back and Abe Cunningham from Deftones.. hard-hitting yet very tasty, soulful playing. Insane! High energy. Top tier drumming! He can play any genre...

One of my thoughts about this when I first saw it was he seemed a lot more mature than I thought a younger player should be. In fact I’d bet we already know either him or some of the other players from another band. I had a crazy thought like, how funny would it be if this band was Pink Floyd in disguise 😂

I believe someone commented what snaredrum II is using on the original video. According to them it is a 13" DW Super Solid Edge. I hope this sates your curiousity :)
Also kudos to II for literally playing the drums as if they are are a tuned instrument with tonality like say a piano. Pretty much one of the best drummers in the game currently.

I think their whole deal is actually super smart on so many levels. Genius songwriting, like a more evolved Cobain level hooks, monstrous sounding low and heavy guitars, whilst smashing the doors in of other musical genres, and making it hit people in the feels like some kind of neo-gospel type religious experience, with a whole lore which echos of a modern gothic twist on the old Robert Johnson Crossroads story mythology. Like them or not, I say "bra-fvkin-oh!".

I was very surprised when II was introduced as a founding member. As far as I was aware, II joined Sleep Token in 2017 with their second EP called Two. There is no mention of him on the band's debut release in 2016, an EP called One. Only Vessel is credited on there! Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

I and II are the founding members, all 4 members joined at the same time in 2016 as far as I'm aware. And remember, They work in weird way.. Like not all members are involved in the Albums but come together for stage work.
My favorite st songs are take me back to Eden the summoning alkaline hypnosis and chokehold

I´m not a drummer, in fact, not a musician at all... I might be wrong, but doesn´t he even "click" his drumsticks together? It`s mostly seen in parts were the "ghostnotes" can be seen, but once you´ve noticed it you hear it freaquently. But as I wrote, I´m not a musician so this might be normal for drummers! But it sounds similar to ZZ Tops intro in La Grange...

I love II he is insane, but I do have to say lots of his playing style, is so so similar to Matt Halpern, Jay Postones, the snappy bits very piercing sound on the snare

Not sure anyone has told u but vessel the singer does all the vocals the highs, lows, screams hes mad def one of the most talented musicians not just singer today. He does it all live as well. U should dip into their other 2 albums, sundowning and this place will become your tomb. They have no bad songs imo but def check out atlantic, higher, alkaline, hypnosis, mine, say that you will, and telemores just to start
