How to Prepare for a Disney Audition

- If you're like me I did a TON of research before my first audition so I could feel prepared and be successful. There were a lot of videos on personal audition experiences, but there wasn't anything out there on how to prepare for a Disney Audition specifically. In order to help you be successful, I rounded up some tips so that you can feel prepared before your audition day! If you have any additional tips leave them in the comments below!

I actually just attended the audition that was January 7th and the numbers (1-100, 101-200, ect) were for us to use when we checked in. They handed us our numbers while we were in line and then we used the Disney auditions website to check in on our phones!
This is BY FAR the most helpful video I’ve seen! Especially in the animation section!!
Thank you so much! The animation is so hard to explain, so I'm glad it made sense!
your eyeshadow I'm crying omg THIS is so helpful thanks for taking the time to talk about it!!!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I did the performing arts experience last year at Disney Springs with my dance team, which was wonderful! Now that I’m a 18 , I’m patiently waiting for them to come to Chicago so I can finally audition. I love your videos! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm only 12 years old, but I just absolutely love working with younger kids. I'm already CERTAIN that I want to be a preschool teacher, but before that, I want to be a Disney face performer, or whatever you call it. All your videos are so very helpful, and just make me want to work there more. Thank you so much, and you are just a very inspiring person! Thank you!😊😚😙😗😘
Thank you so much for this! I plan on auditioning in the next few months before I graduate from college and plan on moving to Orlando to pursue my dream. This was so helpful :)
Thank you so so much for your amazing videos! I will be starting to prepare for disney auditions this fall so this helps so so much!
+Kaylyn Lauree you’re welcome! I’m so excited for you! It can be challenging trying to prepare for something you’ve never been to before so I’m glad this was helpful!
How did it go???🤞
Oh my goodness, thank you SO incredibly much for uploading this video!! It's been my dream to be a character performer for yearssss now and I've always been so nervous about auditioning because I have zero acting experience. The animation part has always been the part that made me the most nervous. I always had a hard time trying to think about a whole story line to go with the topic. Your video is literally the most helpful/in depth video I've seen on auditioning. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video 😊
Your eyeshadow is this video is beautiful I’m obsessed 😍
OMG I needed this so bad! Thank you! I would love to see a video on animation though too! ♥️
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much!! Please please do a separate video on animations! Animations is the only part if I get that far that I worry about.
I know, it's super hard to explain and it's something that can be challenging to prepare for. You don't know the prompts ahead of time so it's not like you could memorize anything. That was the thing I appreciated the most after going to an audition because I felt like just seeing how it was done prepared me for future auditions!
Although im way too young to audition currently, i would LOVE to when im older so your videos really help me!!
It's really interesting to hear your experiences and your advice. I've been a theatre person since kindergarten but I was never good at acting. The funny thing is that I could memorize the lines faster than anyone and I could genuinely cry on cue but I sucked at acting. I found my strength was in working behind the scenes as a director or stage manager or creating sets and costumes and props. And when I went to college I initially went to be a director and then changed to general theater with a minor in forensic anthropology. Anyway amazing video I hope you are doing well and I hope you have a wonderful week.
That's so cool that you were able to channel your love for acting as a director! I think I would make a terrible director and being able to do that is definitely a skill! Forensic anthropology sounds really interesting too! Are you still active in theatre today?
kenziemacbrown not as much as I used to be. After I graduated two years ago I kinda hit a low point in my life. I had just had surgery and I was questioning some of my abilities and wondering if the reason I wasn't getting any jobs was because I am visually impaired. I've been putting all of my passion and energy into planning my wedding. While it's been stressful at times it definitely cheers me up. I get to be creative and organized and plan.
I'm going to audition for Disney later this year so all the help I can get is welcomed. It's interesting to hear your opinions and tips and you've made me think the auditions as a fun experience. I think it won't stress me as much because I know I'm supposed to have fun and the auditions are an experience itself. THANKS! ❤️
+vilmabrownie don’t get me wrong, I would still shake from nervousness at each audition, but I love performing so overall it was super fun because it was a chance to perform and I got to make new friends too!
Eep I have a Disney audition tomorrow so nervous your videos really help
I hope it goes well!! Good luck!!
I auditioned for that last Character look alike audition!(The one that had all those numbers on the website!) Didn’t make it through, but I’m going to try again soon! This video will just give me more tips 😊
Sometimes it's nice just to go to an audition so you know what it'll be like in the future! There's only so much I can say secondhand, and for me physically going to an audition really helped me know what to expect for the future! I hope you keep going, it took me several tries before I was hired!
kenziemacbrown I wanted to try out to be a Disney Princess but I am 6ft tall. What will happen?
So so helpful! I love that you give specific ideas on how to improve your skills for the audition, especially your advice for storytelling in animations! Using Head’s Up is a great idea, I will be trying that as it’s such a fun app! I have this Nintendo iOS app called Miitomo where you answer questions as your own Mii and interact with your friends Miis, which is fun enough but I got tired of it after a while and so did my friends. But they have this new feature where you can make other Miis and answer a variety of fun questions with what you’d think they answer and I started making Miis of my favorite fictional characters and answering questions as them to really get in their world and come up with stories they might tell, it’s a blast and really helpful for character development and improv! For the dance portion, what had helped me is to practice on the side if they have groups of 5-6 dancers at a time do the routine, repetition really helps! Asking questions is really good too, you want to clarify stuff like which arm goes up when while you have a chance before it’s your turn to present! With the dance, your movements should be oozing with energy, even if you put the wrong arm up or turned with your opposite leg, for most auditions they’re looking for high energy performers that can make a dance come to life and not just be a series of accurate moves with no motivation behind them.
Patiently waiting for my chance to audition again, I’m going for DCP next spring so it looks like I’ll be auditioning in the fall! It’d be really nice if Disney casting could come to my town again, but it’s been nearly 4 years and I’m not betting on them coming back anytime soon so I’ll just have to come to them!
Thanks again Kenzie for compiling all your wisdom and experience into a really solid video for prospective auditionees!
I love how you do your makeup!! Its just gorgeous!
Thank you for this video! I’ve been having a really rough week so far and this video just made my day so much better!
+Laurens life I’m sorry you’ve been having a rough week! Honestly I have been too, I think it’s because all of the pressure of New Years resolutions and the holidays. I think realistically people don’t do a lot during the holidays but on social media people show all of these fun, great things they’re doing and it makes you feel like you’re missing out in someway. At least that’s kinda what I’m noticing! I hope your week gets better! ❤️
kenziemacbrown I agree! I think I’m expecting myself to be able to just jump into my resolution, when I should be taking baby steps. Thank you so much! I hope your week gets better too! ❤️
I have quite a few more years till I’ll be old enough to audition but my dream for a while has been to be a Disney princess so I want to start preparing now! This was so helpful thank you!
I'm so happy to hear that!
Perfect timing I have an audition for Disneyland Paris today,😂
Emmabubbles xx Good luck, let me know how it went!
Esmee Groote thank you! I got on their waiting list!
Congrats!! hope you make it!
Did you get the job yet?:D
I auditioned on Sunday also (the day with all the numbers) and what they had us do was sign into our profile and check into the audition based on our audition number just because they were expecting (and there were) lots of girls who came out to audition. Funny what you said about being early also! I showed up an hour early to that audition and I was number 142 so it definitely helps to show up as early as you can to these auditions (especially in Orlando because the auditions for character performers are more infrequent then they used to be) so you can be one of the first faces you see! I’m 16 and that was my first ever Disney audition and it was really fun! Unfortunately I wasn’t chosen from the type cast but a lot of girls at the audition said that they thought I could be friends with a different character that they weren’t casting for which made me hopeful. They ended up choosing 4 people out of our group of 100 to go on to the second round and I hope one day I can make it there!! It has been a dream of mine and I am also a dancer so I love watching your videos and hearing about your experience❤️
There is one late this May here in la for Disneyland! I really want to go. Watching this very carefully I’ve always loved ur videos so much so I came back for more advice💗💛
Also, if you can't make it to dance classes- there are a lot of RUclips videos of dance instructions! That can still really help with training yourself on how to learn different dances quickly.
That's a great tip!!
Yay! I am so grateful that you made this video!! I'm 13 and I would love to become a character performer look alike! It has always been my dream and I love meeting and interacting with characters at Disneyland. When I go to high school I will for sure continue to get more in depth in theatre, drama, etc. and really work on it! I will definitely work on this and thanks so much for all of the tips! I really hope I reach my goal!!! :)
+Adriana Jaime that’s so awesome that you know that’s something you want to do so you can plan ahead! I was the same way when I was your age! I naturally loved theatre so I took lots of drama classes in middle school, high school and college too! But the best thing you can do to prepare is learn and practice performing in front of others! I hope you get to fulfill your dream someday too!
Thank you so much!! A lot of people have been doubting me to do it, but it has always been something that I have been aspiring to do!! Thank you so much for the support and I will definitely continue with the drama and practice on front of others!!
just found your channel and wow you seem like such a nice and genuine person bc i read how u responded to a comment and it was so sweet! Definitley subbing!!
Awww you are so nice, thanks Mary! My favorite part about posting videos to RUclips is being able to comment back and engage with people! It's cool how a platform can connect so many different and unique people!
Hey I was at the audition for the ones with the crazy amount of numbers! This was because it was easier to section us off. The first 100 went and the rest waited. Then 200 and the rest waited. Organizational purposes I suppose!
I would love it if you could make a whole video on the disney college programme? I dont really understand what it is so that would be really helpful :)
This video was so helpful! I will definitely be watching it many times over the next couple of years to keep this information stuck in my head!
I also have a question that doesn’t really pertain to the video, but it is a Disney question. I am a HUGE disney lover and have been my whole life and i am going to Disney World for my birthday in 2 weeks w my best friends and was wondering if you have any tips for us! I watched your video a while back about tips you have but was wondering if there was anything else! Maybe something to do while waiting in line, outfit tricks, or anything! I love all of your videos and I look forward to seeing them every week!!!❤️❤️
Omg I just found your channel last sunday and I love you so muchh, you are a really nice person, I'm 15 years and I want to work in Disney, you help me a lot with your videos💛
Thank you Andrea! That's so wonderful, I hope you get to work there some day!
kenziemacbrown love you su muchh
Andrea Glez I'm 15 and want to work there too! Wouldn't it be funny if we meet auditioning one day?😂
Ellie Xbh hahah omg it would be!
Thank you for making these helpful videos! :D I was wondering if you remember how long they gave you to think of your animations before you actually had to perform them? I will be attending my third audition soon!
Girl- how do you keep your teeth so white?!
Caroline Nelson don’t drink coffee and brush them a lot or you can bleach your teeth but I don’t recommend because it tastes bad
Hey Kenzie you’re amazing at advice keep up the amazing work!!!!
Thanks Jonathan!
Id love to know what all of the make up products your wearing!! They are gorgeous and id love a tutorial on this look as well!! Your so beautiful and such a great role model for young girls! 😊
thank you.
This is something I have a pin in because I am interested in it, more of on the fur because I could never do a face actor, I have more of a general bulky build, even if I do slim down, I just have too much rounded features if that makes sense. I work with kids today at a after school program & I want to have jobs in the future with kids & considered working at parks, being the Disney lover I am, of course that's the first that comes to my mind & with a Disney trip I might be going on in the spring, it might inspire me more.
Oh, I'm also planning on taking improv classes, been thinking about that for roughly about a year now but I went to a free improv workshop not too long ago & loved it so I definitely plan to take a class when I can afford it. Sad thing is, I'm at a dead height of 5'5 so odds are, I could never probably even go to an audition.
Very disappointing too, one of my highlights at going to Rose City Comicon a few years ago was when I was cosplaying as Sadness from Inside Out (I look almost exactly like her but without the blue so with it, I looked exactly like her), a little girl actually thought I was the real Sadness, she grabbed my hand & took me to her dad. I was standing in line at the ATM since I was out of cash & needed it to purchase something at a booth. He told her to let Sadness go or she'll be even more sad so she did. The people in line at the ATM saw the whole thing & let me have my spot back, it was such a sweet interaction & made me feel so happy. I actually kept a frown throughout the entire thing because that's just the natural resting place for my mouth, it actually kinda hurts to smile too much, I usually just always look sad, even when I'm having a good time. Another reason why I can't do face, I just don't have the face for it, just imagine me as Sadness & you get the picture. The feel that gave me, a small child believing that I actually am the character I'm portraying is like nothing else in the world. Guess I'll just have to stick to doing that at conventions because even with experience with kids & even with doing improv in the future, I don't think I could ever meet the requirements due to being slightly too short.
Thank you so much for this video!!! it brightend my day!!!
Thanks Kendra, I'm so glad!
Wow you gave us some awesome tips. I liked and subscribed
I have my first one tomorrow! I’m so nervous
I hope it went well!
I love all of your videos!!
Thank you so much!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO❤️
eyeshadow on point
I was at the Florida audition on January 7th! They had it separate so the girls in the specific group numbers can click on it and add it to their profile. I'm guessing you filmed this that exact day haha!
+Rachel Steinke well that makes a ton of sense! Haha yes I did film it that day!
I’m so nervous for my storm trooper one bc I want it soooo bad but I’m not sure I’ll be good/ready for the acting part
Love watching your videos, they have been great help to preprare for a audition! I'm auditoning for Hong Kong soon, and it says to wear Attire that you will be able to move in, do you have any reconmmendation for what to wear?
Thanks Victoria, I'm so glad to hear that! So for my Hong Kong audition, I was suprised at how many people were wearing longer skirts. Like dance skirts. I've always worn a work-out tank top, yoga pants and athletic shoes to all of my auditions, and that seems to be the norm. But for that audition, dance shoes and flowy skirts were the norm. Probably because they are type-casting for very specific roles (i.e. "princesses") and the movement piece they have you do is a much more traditional, princess-like dance. In comparison to general auditions for Disney World. Since the movement portion is slightly more advanced, I would wear attire that looks graceful (longer skirts and dance shoes). I hope that helps! It's also been a few years since I went to my audition so things may have changed, but I kinda doubt it :)
Thank you so much for you’re answer 💕
I have some questions.
1. How old do you have to be?
2. What is the height?
3.What is the most recommended fur character?
I LOVE your videos!!!! You're always so positive😃. I think if you made an animation video, it would be amazing! Please consider doing it!
Thanks Emily!! What do you mean by animation video? Like create a cartoon and do a voice over?
Oh, well in the video you talked about how in one stage of the audition, they gave you something that you had to act out and you called it animation. I was hoping you'd make a video on more tips about how to do that.
Hey Kenzie! I love your videos and it would be super cool if you could film a how to prepare for a phone interview?!
That's a great idea! Do you mean in general or specifically for the DCP?
kenziemacbrown Preferably specifically for the DCP but whatever works best for you!! :))
I filmed it and I will be posting my DCP phone interview tips video tonight at 7:30pm (PST) :)
kenziemacbrown yayyyy can’t wait thank you
I went to the audition on Sunday! I got to the audition at 12 and I was number 448! I was an hour early I couldn’t believe how many girls were already there😂
Yeah it's insane! I wonder if by filling out the profile online ahead of time then you get a number before you show up. Otherwise that's nuts that many people showed up an hour early!!
Thanks for the video! You kindnof look like Cassie diamond (a youtuber) and Veronica Lodge from riverdale
Hi! I always struggle with the second part of character auditions - where we have to walk across a large floor space as a character of our choosing. Should I pick something in my height range? Am I supposed to focus on storytelling or more portraying the physicality of the character I chose?
Thanks so much for this! How long did you have for one animation prompt during the audition?
Lindsey Hiltz when I did it they gave us the prompt, a few minutes to think it over, then we got to practice it a bit before actually performing so you can see others and get ideas from those around you if you’re struggling
Im watching this in 2022 so all auditionsare on zoom !!!
I’m not too good at dancing tho, tbh that’s what’s setting me back! Idk if it’s better to wait for another audition in the future to be more prepared or if I should just go to try it out. There’s also a host audition in June! So I’m thinking of going to that one too or maybe just going to that one and going to a character one later on. Advice? :o
When auditioning what do you suggest about nails including length and color and when performing what are the rules?
love you!!!
This video was super helpful, thank you so much!
I’m just curious if you know- does Disney hire singers? I remember when I went to Disney as a child seeing a couple of musical theatre type performances with Belle and Ariel and I wondered if they still looked for performers for those types of things (because I would love to do them!)
Gina Devine thank you!
I’m thirteen, am I still allowed to make a profile even though I’m too young to audition?
You could still technically make a profile, but it's probably in your best interest to wait until you're old enough to audition! Especially since you have to upload a headshot, it makes more sense to wait because you'll probably look different in five years!
Would it still be worth it to go to a character look alike audition if you’re in a dead height? Since you said they are a bit more lenient
Can you go to auditions if you are a tad bit too tall for an audition? I am actually 5'7.4''...
The website looks a bit different now and I was wondering how to navigate my way to the sign up page.
Here is the link: jobs.disneycareers.com/auditions
you've got such beautiful eyes.. I'm watching with suspense wondering what role you got at Disney :)
Awww thank you! In order to maintain character integrity I don't actually say which roles I had as a character performer, but I do sprinkle plenty of obvious hints in my videos :)
I feel very dumb now because now I see it in your thumbnail lol
Do you have to have that certain hair color because I have red hair but I’m short
SongBird Play’s Not at all!! When you go to an audition though make sure you have your hair out of your face :)
i just got back from disney and found myself at 5'6 being noticeably taller than most of the princesses which is concerning considering have devoted most of my life preparing myself to fufill my lifelong dream of being a character performer. when you worked there did you realize most people were on the shorter side and do you think that will lessen my chances. Like for instance if all the belles were 5'4 but a girl who is 5'7 looks like her will they not hire her because she isnt the same height as the other girls that are friends with her. Also is it true that for different princesses they will only hire certain heights for like rapunzel and annas will only be shorter and not on the taller side and only elsas and auroras could be 5'7? sorry i know these are very specific and might contradicting with character integrity i was just wondering!
In the beginning I show an example of what the listing will look like for a look-a-like audition. Those listings will always show the height requirements and they are usually 5'3" to 5'7". If there are different height requirements for different roles (which I also showed an example of in this video) they will list that as well. If you are 5'6" then you fit those requirements!
Kenzie, I’ve got a diastema, which is a tooth gap in my front teeth. Do you think I have a chance to get picked for a face character?
Manu Queiroz I have the same question! My teeth are a bit crooked
So helpful yay ❤️Do you know if you need a high school diploma to work for a Face/fur Characters? Would they know if you don’t have one? Do they ask for one at the Audition or process thanks !! Xxxx
I don't think so! They never asked for one at the auditions I went to at least!
Ahhh, thank you so much for this!!! I'm about to audition again in a couple of months and I've been thinking about it A LOT!
Yay! I hope this helps! And you should definitely go, it took me four tries before I was hired!
I know that you can't choose who you are, and honestly I'd be happy with anyone, but rapunzel is my favourite, and I've been told I look the most like her by many people, I know tangled practically off by heart and know all the lyrics to every song😂 but is 5'6 too tall to be rapunzel? I know that she's one of the smaller princesses and i feel too tall compared to all my other friends! It would be great to hear what you think! Thanks! Xx
I just realized I didn't include the link the the audition calendar in my description so I added it! In this video I also talk about performer heights when I was reviewing the audition calendar items - I think that part of the video would answer your question!
were you nervous at all? I feel like thats a dumb question but i just want to know how you handled it becauss i have trouble with nerves
I was SO nervous I was shaking at every single audition! I just tried to channel the nervous energy when it came time to perform the movement or act out the animation!
Thats a good idea!! Thanks!
Awsome
Hi! I'm sorry, this is an entire year later, but I have my first audition coming up in a few days and I had a question. I am currently 17 and will not be 18 until July, if somehow I am kept into the last round, how would being 17 affect me do you think? Will they still fit me and maybe keep me? Or will they send me home? The audition listing says 18 years of age, however I have heard of girls that are 17 and are performers at DL in California which is where I'm auditioning for. I guess I'm just worried that it may effect auditions in the future if I try a little early for practice, or if they actually overlook my age and would like to take me. Thank you! -Madeline
I can't believe I made this video a year ago - time flies! To be totally honest, I'm not sure. I have no training as a casting director so I can only give advice based on my experience as someone who has auditioned. I can't speak on behalf of the company, but I can tell you what I've noticed. I didn't know anyone who was younger than 18 when I was working for WDW. I used to see on the auditions website that they said "must be 18" for WDW auditions. I've gotten this question before though so I have kept looking at the auditions listings for the past few years just to see what they say about age. Since I started looking I saw both DL and WDW post auditions where the minimum age was 16. I also saw them use wording such as "must be 18 or high school graduate". I also know someone who made it through all the way on an audition (like was fit in costumes), but didn't get the job once they found out she was 17. She JUST turned 18 and was hired off of one of the first auditions she did since turning 18.
I always direct people to reference the audition posting because I've seen the age requirement fluctuate so much. The postings are SO different depending on the park when it comes to age and height requirements. If the listing says you must be 18, then they most likely won't hire you if you're 17. I wouldn't let that dissuade you from attending the audition, but just know that I really don't think they make age exceptions (because it's a legal thing). And if you went I don't think it would negatively affect your auditions in the future. Especially since I know someone who went to SO many auditions when she wasn't 18 (and they said she needed to be) and just got hired. So if it didn't affect her getting hired I don't think it would affect you either :)
Sorry for the novel, but I wanted to include everything I knew in hopes that it would help!
kenziemacbrown thank you so much! you were a huge help!
How many times did you audition before you became a cast member?
Four!
Are they strict on height? Whats the tallest princess you've seen?
Typically the height range for look a like performers is between 5'4 - 5'7, but I think it depends. I think if it's within an inch or so they might be lenient. Certain roles go up to 5'8, so I would just check the auditions calendar website and see what the height requirements are there! I would say it seems like they're less strict with look a like performers than fur performers because with fur performers the height is a big safety factor when it comes to costuming.
Im going to the 5'6"-5'8" audition in february and i spent money to travel already :o i never heard it said before that the height auditions were specifically for fur characters...i was looking at the heights and i saw that it fit a lot of the princesses 😂😅 should i be worried? Would they possibly cast me for both?
Danielle Marie I’m going to that audition too! To me it seemed more of a dancer audition, I’m not sure either haha. Good luck!
nani ahh thats so awesome! Usually when i see auditions more for dancers it says that specifically this one was rather vague
Danielle Marie oh really? Hm interesting! This is my first Disney audition so I’m not sure what to expect 😁
nani this is my first one too! What time were you planning on getting there? And what were you thinking of wearing ? I have a few outfit ideas but im not sure what i want to do
Danielle Marie Danielle Marie I live about an 1 1/2 away so at least 30 mins before, & I had no clue on what to wear! Just maybe nice leggings & I’m still deciding on top. What did you have in mind?
I did theatre in high school, and for our musicals, we had a "movement" part of auditions where we quickly learned a portion of a dance from the show choreography. I'm not a dancer, but I have experience doing musical choreography in middle and high school. Do you think this is similar to what is done at Disney? :)
Yeah I think that would be very similar! Anything where you're having to learn choreography in a short amount of time and then having to perform it and remember it would be great practice for an audition!
I'm 5'10" and still not done growing am I in a strange dead height
Stories-n-Stuff you’re in the perfect height for villains!
Citrus_Petals that would be so cool. Thanks for responding. It's nice to have a kind You Tube community
🤗🤗🤗🤗🧜🏻♀️🧚♀️👸🏻🤴🏻
i wanna be a fur charector on a disney cruise ship
You should check out the Disney auditions website! It'll provide you with a lot of helpful information :)
I audition today!
love you!!!!
When auditioning what do you suggest about nails including length and color and when performing what are the rules?
I think natural is best since you can't wear nail polish as a performer.
